She gives a couple of examples of how these people helped and showed that they care about her; yet at the end of her story she always comes to the conclusion that these people don't actually like her and secretly want to see her downfall. I think she has a victim mentality that's exacerbated by the fact that she probably doesn't feel she is good enough herself. She needs to quit internalizing racism so much and stop damaging the personal/work relationships she has with her peers.

I think that whole part of the comedy meritocracy, where the more successful, established comedians come into a club, expect to go on stage immediately, and then stay on stage for longer than the usual 15 min (or worse, staying onstage for an hour or more), is such an awful practice. Most of the time, those lesser known performers that have busted their asses to earn that spot, and rely on doing those to improve their act to get to a point where they can make a livable wage from it. Sure, the occasional drop in set from a big name can be a positive for everyone involved. Crowd loves it, club loves the novelty of it, and even the performers who get bumped can learn from it & push themselves to rise to that level with an energized crowd, so in those instances, it’s a win. The opposite of that is those who do it frequently, don’t give the club a heads up, and could care less about the comics they bump, to the point of being inconsiderate in every way possible. Luckily, most clubs have decided to stop that shit, or now have rules in place to limit the frequently inconsiderate offenders who still think that’s ok. Some big names would never even think of doing it, and I’m always glad to hear them speak out against it.
@earlpipe97139 ай бұрын
@@cleech74 When the A list, top tier comedians like Chappelle, Rock or Burr do it though, it doesn't just help on the night/s they perform at the club, it helps every other night of the year, as many more people will attend that club if they think there's a chance that such a top star might show up any given time
@earlpipe97139 ай бұрын
