I spent $450 on a camper shell. That's all that you really need besides decent tires.

Icon RXT leaf springs are nice, "semi-adjustable" also. I got Ironman 4x4 front coilovers recently to replace my clapped out bilstein 5100 lift, they seem pretty nice so far.

I’m building my 2nd gen taco now! Tomorrow it gets all new suspension and waiting for my bumpers and bed rack to arrive!

What type of bumper r u getting?
@M.TTT.11 ай бұрын
Love those wheels. I also got a Hooke road front bumper, a different style that they only sold a few of for some reason, had to modify it to fit and added some steel to the wings to make it wider and further back into the wheel well. For the price, not too bad with some modification.

True that, they're not bad especially if you can tinker yourself.

Those thunderer Trac Grip tires you are switching to are a bad idea. I ran them in my 06 Tacoma for 2 years and one developed a large crack so I had to replace the back 2 and then the fronts wore so bad the treads were all messed up and so I said forget it and get rid of them all and went to Toyo open county’s.

Thanks for the info, thankfully I bought ko2's on Facebook for a crazy deal. Got 6 for $400. Lots of tread left and no weathering.

Nice truck and video man. I’m currently building my 2009 double cab short bed. You have any vibration issues after you lifted yours?
@DailyDrivenDeathTraps Жыл бұрын
Thanks! No vibrations. I also got the front and center diff spacers. Idk if it helped at all but it's there doin something lol.
@M.TTT.11 ай бұрын
If you lift, very likely you will get the front diff vibes eventually, if not immediately

Yo since you've owned both, I want your opinion. I've currently got a 2nd gen tacoma 4x4 4.0L 6spd manual (the dream). Am I crazy for wanting to switch to a Lexus GX 470? I'm curious which you prefer, and if you can recommend one over the other. The tacoma is my daily, but still sees off road use here and there. I live in rural Alaska at the moment, so in general the environment is pretty tough on the truck as it is. Haven't invested in any mods on the taco yet, just weighing my options before I go all in.
@DailyDrivenDeathTraps Жыл бұрын
Hey, in my personal opinion I think the Tacoma is just more versatile. You can strip down and still use it to haul things in the bed that are dirty or whatever. They typically get better gas mileage even with mods because the Lexus has the V8. You don't have to worry about the timing chain since it's actually a chain, the Lexus has a belt that has to be changed every 100k. They basically have the same reliability, it's just that the Lexus has that one flaw. Since going to the Tacoma I think the only thing that bothers me is the interior, the Lexus is definitely nicer on the inside. Yes you can upgrade the seats in the Tacoma as well as the sound system, but you're always going to have the rattling body panels on the inside. I've gotten used to it but still kind of sucks. Some weatherstripping and insulation is helped. If I were you I'd hold on to that Tacoma and mod it out. Then if you want something more luxury and fuel efficient just go with a cheap sedan Lexus.

@@DailyDrivenDeathTraps thanks for the reply brother. I suppose I’ll keep the tacoma for now. My only issue with it rn is that it’s starting to show small spots of surface rust all over the frame. I should have started treating it earlier, but I’m gonna try to do regular applications of fluid film so I can keep this truck in good shape for a long time
@DailyDrivenDeathTraps Жыл бұрын
@@TheGopherNut well me being from Iowa that's a normal. Hell it's even normal to do a patch on a Toyota for me now lol. I think you're good. Tap with a screwdriver around everywhere and make sure there's no break through, if nothing just wire brush then apply fluid film. Either the black stuff or regular. Do this once a year and you'll have it forever.

What kind of head unit is that? Any issues with it so far?
@DailyDrivenDeathTraps Жыл бұрын
It's a random ebay unit I found for like $120. Only issues is that I couldn't figure out how to make it work with steering volume controls and sometimes android auto can be a pain to connect to but I'm pretty sure it's my phone that's the problem most of the time.
