*pipe clamps* is the word you were looking for. Muffler on my 09 rusted out to a flap that vibrated while revving. Was relieved when I found it was just the muffler. Zipped some holes in the muffler to divert flow away from my leaf springs until I get a replacement. Taco sounds beast with the perforated custom muffler now. Thanks for the video

I purchased a Walker Quiet Flo muffler from NAPA for my 2008 Tacoma. When the tailpipe rusted off about 2 years ago, I was able to get a new muffler assembly free under the Walker warranty. This week my tail pipe has rusted off again and yesterday I picked up a new muffler assembly free under that warranty. I will be able to get a free one as long as I own my truck.

How do you know how tight to tighten the bolts? Is there a torque setting, or just tighten by hand until it feels really tight? I tried paying a garage to install aftermarket and it only lasted 2 years, so I am buying OEM. Yes, it's over $500, but I don't want to do this job often so I'm just buying the right stuff. I'll hopefully do a decent job myself. The OEM part is one piece from the bolts to the end of the tailpipe. A tip from another video says to remove all stickers from new part(s) before you begin so you don't burn them up and stink up the place when you run the truck.

I heard you work your way between the two bolts, tighten them to 20 pound, then to 40, and finally to 60. So do both bolt to 20, then both bolt 40, then 60.

I bought a 06 tacoma with an aftermarket muffler. Luckily he gave me the stock muffler. I want replace the aftermarket with the stock muffler. I will try and include the pic of how close it is cut.

Great job. I have the same exact truck! 130,000 on it and the exhaust finally rusted out this week as well as the rear wheel seal bearing started leaking at the same time and the steering is getting super stiff in a few spots. Gonna do the exhaust soon like you did and then tackle the rear axle seal seepage. Not sure how I’m gonna fix the stiff steering. Think it’s the steering shaft ujoint.

I have heard of the steering shaft being stiff. I haven’t had a look but you’re probably right that you can oil the u joint on that steering shaft

Nice Job! You sound like maybe a Yooper or from Minnesota? Got a cheap replacement muffler a couple years ago. It's getting loud so going to bite the bullet and buy a Toyota OEM muffler.

How do I choose a replacement and method my pipes are clean just the muffler has holes?

I went to my local auto parts store. In my case I went to Carquest and asked for a replacement for a stock muffler. They then will ask whether I need any of the pipes that attach to the muffler. In my case I needed the section of pipe in front of the muffler as well. You may only need to order a replacement muffler which comes with the tailpipe already attached as one piece.
