Hello Dennis - This a nice little spinning reel .

It sure is! It is priced well too.

I like the AR override. I don’t want a reel without that feature. I also like the intermediate gear in the oscillation gearing. I don’t have any of these reels but it seems to be a decent reel. Good video Dennis! - Chris

This is an excellent video! I recovered a Berkeley rod with the Abu Garcia Blackman reel attached from a dry lake bed. Of course it was loaded with sand and silt and the bail has a spot of corrosion so it will need to be replaced. If you could direct me to a parts list and a source for parts I would be grateful. I intend to completely disassemble the reel as I have nothing invested in it. I think it is a nice reel and would like to get it functional again. Your video gives me the confidence to attempt this and I will take plenty of pictures. Thanks so much, and subscribed.

Check ereplacementparts.com for the abu parts you may need. Be sure to include your model in the search bar - Dennis

thanks for the great video, Dennis. I did the repair, but after putting it back together the bail does not lock open or closed. Any idea what I did wrong?

i never seen you open the line roller and clean the bearing? not sure if there is bearing

I generally just use a penetrating oil on the assembly and do not open them up unless I hear a bearing noise. If that is the case, I replace the bearing - Dennis

How do I put the bail back together? I took it off and I cannot figure out how to put it together. All of the springs are still in their correct places. There is a small metal part that I cannot figure out how to get back in
@2ndChanceTackle8 ай бұрын
Is the metal part a long bar that looks like the letter "Z" If it is, the ling end of that goes in the lower slot of the case and the top piece fits in the ole on the back slot in the back of the bail arm. The spring would have a hook on the end near the arm. That would fit in the hole in the back. Once the parts are aligned. push down to center the screw hole and the case and then add the screw - Dennis

Hi Dennis. I've got an interesting question I think for you. I had to replace all the gears on my Daiwa BG6500. They were corroded. When I put the new gears in and screwed down the side plate, the reel got very tight. I used the same shim that was there on the old gear. Low and behold, when I removed that shim and ran straight bearing, the reel spins beautifully BUT there's a little gearineess to it. Like now it's too lose! Somehow the perfect amount of shimming is between the standard washer that comes with it and no shim at all. The Daiwa BG is known to come with differing shims from the factory so I'm not all that surprised with a brand new gear set the factory shimming wouldn't work! So here's the question. Where in the world would you look to buy paper thin shims? I feel like if I can buy a bunch of super thin shims I'll be able to shim the new gears just right! Just a little frustrating that I paid $52 for all new gears on a $135 reel and now I need a $0.05 shim and having a tough time finding it. The shim they sell for the reel is the one I already have and it's too much! I'm actually thinking about just making them but maybe you've run into this.

So I actually took the shim that came with it and ground it from .40mm to .36mm and that .04mm was the difference between so tight the reel was hard to spin and being perfect. Unreal. I am just going to polish up that shim, it's brass I believe, and call it fixed. Good warning to people though, if you buy a new gear set for a reel, you may have to adjust the shims!

You are spot on. The shims are there to take up the variances in the gear manufacturing process. You need to check these if you replace the main. I am not sure where to get an assortment of the shims. If you find a reliable supplier, please let me know - Thanks
