The Service reel reminds me of a Salt & Lake reel I was given at Christmas. Try The Fisher Man in DeLand FL to possibly get a 710Z case. He got me my last one. I absolutely agree with you about mailing reels in a box properly wrapped and supported! That is a beautiful Mitchell 300. I think the Shakespeare 20t2 is one of the finest medium spinning reels ever made by Shakespeare. The same bearing in this 2062 will fit a Penn 704. I hope you can bring back that 302. I love those reels. I’d encourage you to do the grease-choked reel video. I had a 7000 Ambassador that I used for surf fishing. I put a nice Abu chrome spool in it. When I lost so much of my vision I sold it. It was perfect in the box with two handles. I got a nice return on that reel but I hate I sold it. Oh, I sent you an e-mail with photos of my latest project and word about my next two reel projects. - Chris

One of the fun things about my shop is the variety of reels I see week to week. I never know what will show up and as they say, variety is the spice of life! Thanks for the note - Dennis

Love your content, I prefer the ones where the dryer isn’t running in the background though 😉

Fair enough! This is keeping it real. I have always said you are looking over my shoulder in my shop and, well the shop has a water heater,, furnace and other noise makers there. If I waited for all quiet, I wouldn't get anything done! No professional studios here! Thanks for the note and for watching - Dennis

Sir, my elderly mother loves to fish from the bank or beachfront. She does okay with a spin reel but sometimes I feel like the simplicity of a closed face spin reel would be better for her. Some of these are finicky when casting and just seem to lack the quality of the open faced reels. I use abu Garcia 4601s and 6501s but she can’t finesse the cast and makes little bird nests. Is there a good resource for information on upgrading and modifying closed face reels for freshwater and saltwater fishing? I like to target lake trout, channel catfish, and surf perch sized fish not huge but can run to twenty pounds. Have you successfully run braid in a closed face reel? Love your channel Ty for your response in advance.

Unfortunately, the closed face reels are what they are and rarely modified. I am not aware of any changes that would be able to help you. I haven't used braid in these. Braid is thin and with the limited oscillation, my fear is that it would bunch and jam under load. I stick with the basic mono. There are larger sized closed faced reels. You may want to explore those as an alternative. Best wishes for great fishing with you mother - Dennis
