So after watching this video I attempted to remove the drag washer clip from my Shakespeare ultralight spinning reel but didn't follow your instructions to hold the clip in place as I released it. Of course, it promptly popped loose and went flying to who knows where. I'm still looking for it. A d'uh moment for sure, but also a valuable lesson. The one positive is I discovered a couple of the drag washers had some mild rust on them, & I was able to clean and grease them. Just gotta find the missing drag washer or get a replacement from somewhere.

Good luck in your search. That is a retaining clip. You can use the reel without it. Just remember that the drag washers will fall out when you go to remove the spool. - Dennis

Maybe I missed it but for carbon fiber do you grease or oil to lubricate?
@2ndChanceTackle5 ай бұрын
It is optional, but since Carbontex is non-permeable, it would help much. If you do opt to grease it, a light coast is all that is needed and make sure to wipe off any excess. - Thanks for asking - Dennis

Thanks Dennis ! How do you record and process your videos so quickly?
@2ndChanceTackle Жыл бұрын
I don't need to do much editing and I don't embellish the videos with add ins. I use a basic Canon camera and an Adobe editor. Thanks for asking

Hey Dennis, hope you or a viewer can help me. I have a 60 series, Eagle Claw "Golden Eagle" graphite spinning reel with top drag. It has a 6 washer stack, I've cleaned, polished, and lubed the whole assy., and still when I pull line from the spool, it will rotate maybe 2 turns before the drag knob starts turning also, tightening the drag fully, I've tried everything to fix it , and it still doe's the same thing every time, It's infuriating and basically negates why I use the reel for bigger fish. Any thoughts???

Do you have a washer on the axle shaft above the click ratchet? I have seen the problem occur when that washer was missing - Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle Yes, I have the original ,small ,black fiber washer provided, but I've tried teflon, plastic, red fiber, no washer, etc.. with no sucess, it works with the drag knob loosened, but when you tighten it up just a little it grabs the spool and spins with it till the drag is super tight . might be time to sell it. P.S. don't bid if you see it on E-Bay!!!!
