Those A/R over-ride springs are among the hardest ones on any reel to attach and not lose. They are on Penn, Shimano, Okuma and other reels and require a lot of patience and concentration to get set right. - Thanks

Sure is! Penn didn't make many "small" reels. Shimano and Daiwa are much more well known for them. The 2500 was introduced when braid became popular because folks were going lighter with the new line. Unfortunately, they eliminated the A/R over-ride with he Battle III "improvements"

Dennis this video was a gem helped me out big time, Now you mentioned not to knock out the anti-reverse lever spring, well I have to replace the lever and I was wondering how difficult it is to replace that lever? I have experience breaking down reels, I have never done this part.

It's not that difficult. My caution is to be aware that the spring is there and it does tend to shoot if you are not paying attention. You should be able to fix your reel - Dennis

Thanks so much for the video. I have a penn clash 2 hs that was supposed to come with instant anti reverse. However, it seems like the anti reverse isn’t instant. It’s noticeable when you crank fast and come to a sudden stop and it has a lil bit reverse action unlike my spinfisher or slammer. Any idea as to what this could be?

Sounds like the A/R is dirty if it is the IAR. If it is the older toothed ratchet configuration, then the abrupt stop is somewhat normal

Hey there love you’re videos so thank you. I have a Penn spinfisher VI7500lc that winds backwards occasionally when it shouldn’t. What do you think the cause is? Many thanks

It is probably a failing A/R roller clutch. If you have had the reel less than one year, return it ti Penn under a warranty claim and have them service the reel. Thanks for the note and for watching Dennis

@@2ndChanceTackle Thank you Dennis. I’ve actually just had it serviced and repaired with this problem but they’ve sent it back to me with the same problem just very subtle now. Do you think then I need a replacement A/R clutch?

I’ve had the reel for years, I’ve emailed them again hopefully they’ll sort for me otherwise I’ll do it myself. I have an old Mitchell casting 50 doing the same thing, I find the A/R systems the hardest to repair, the gears etc seem very easy most of the time. All the best

Yes - I believe the clutch should have been replaced. It is likely they just cleaned it

Dennis I’ve got a query what is the reason for a drag not working on a penn international || 20T Lever drag multiplier everything seems intact but the Drag won’t engage any help would be appreciated Dennis

Thanks for asking. There could be several reasons. If the reel has not been apart, the most common cause could be either a worn drag or a mis-aligned lever drag cam. If the reel has been taken apart, it could be missing pieces, like the small spring that goes between the pressure plate bearings. Hard to say more without seeing the reel. @@2ndChanceTackle thanks for the info just done a 330gti where one of the bridge spring shot into outer space fortunately found it but a right fiddly job getting that and the anti reverse dog and spring back in what should have been a half hour job turned into twice that I’m going to have crack at the international tomorrow after I’ve watched a few of your videos on similar models I take it there more or less the same set once again thank you for your helpful information and keep them coming much abliged Derek 🎣👍👍
