I got my 93 Typhoon used with 2230 miles back in 94. Insane power but heat soaked almost after one good pull. Did quite a few mods that were available back then. Best thing is to delete the factory self leveling shocks in rear, delete that pump and put in Bilstein adjustable all the way around. Added rear sway bar, upgraded intercooler and pump to high volume. Had it for 8 years and did quite a more updates as they became available. Note these engines came out with a 2 bolt main..... To get any real HPs out of them need to go with a four bolt main. Was by far my favorite ride I ever owned. Good memories to see one getting revived with the joy these trucks provided. 😉 That factory transmission should have been banging 2nd and 3rd as it had a factory shift kit and shifts should have been more pronounced than what this video provided due to you not "Getting on it"...your gonna love this truck. 😁

Great job Alex. I’m a new subscriber at least as of a few weeks ago. This is a very raw, informative channel you have. This is so amazing I’m thrilled with how knowledgeable you are, I recall 10 year master tech. Thank you for what you do and showing the possibilities of vehicles out there. I was born 95. I’m really big car enthusiast. I’ve been very surprised that I’ve never heard of a typhoon before. Ive owed a 99 and a 2005 Chevy blazer in the past. (Wish it was a gmc typhoon) I’ve also owned an 86 Toyota pick up in a 99 rodeo. And owning these vehicles, I’ve learned quite a bit of mechanics. Yet with my OCD I have in cleanliness. I take an interesting liking toward how you fix something and while you’re there clean up and restore oem. I thought I was a crazy person now I have found you. Thank you for creating a KZbin channel putting yourself out there for people like me or for me to find you, your knowledge is fruitful. I will continue watching your videos until you stop making them. again, thank you for what you do.

In regards to the 10mm socket you found, I’m not sure how normal the occurrence is, but when I was working through my Blazer, I dropped one that fell and bounced around until it got itself into the frame tubing that the bumper mounts are mounted on. Which made for a very interesting discovery for me, to say the least. I found a telescopic rod and hot glued a small neo magnet on the end, to try and fish out my 10mm. Well, what I pulled out the first 3 times weren’t a 10mm. Instead, I pulled out some random and strangely large, yet very short bolts, that I’m still unsure what they could even be from to begin with. The next time I tried, I got my socket but, I was not done yet. Had to verify that there wasn’t anything else at that point. Pulled a couple more identical bolts out, and of all things, an original rubber tired Hot Wheels Shelby Cobra that was only made in 1988, 2 years after the model of the truck. So I could only assume, it was from the original owner and that his kid had been playing around and either intentionally hid, or accidentally dropped the car down into the frame tube, to not be seen again until I went fishing for my 10mm.

@@Hexthrill it’s paint was in pretty rough shape by the time I found it, it wasn’t crazy rusted or anything like that but just kind of beat to death looking. I assume from bouncing around inside the frame with those bolts for potentially up to 40 years. I ended up taking the whole thing apart cleaning everything up, and went ahead and sanded down the body and hit it with a fresh paint job to breathe some renewed life back into it. I ended up giving it to my dad when I got it finished because he has always been a big Ford Mustang guy. Even though it was a Shelby Cobra and not a Mustang, it is in many ways in my eyes, the car that was forever tied to the creation of my favorite version of all Mustangs that have ever been made. The 1965-67 Shelby Mustang GT 350.

@@jb678901 I bought a used '89 GMC S15 Jimmy 4.3L 4WD in '94 and ran the Oceano Dunes here near Pismo Beach CA for 10 years. I'd air down my BFG A/T's to 15 lbs and in 4low it would climb any dune easily. It had a manual transfer case shifter (none of that electronic b.s.) and it would beat big V8 trucks w/fancy suspensions and big tires up the biggest dune, catching air at the top! Heat is one of the biggest killers of a trans and having adequate cooling is paramount, provided there's room, a dedicated cooler is worthy upgrade. Having pulled the pan on the trans, upgrading to both a Sonnax corvette style servo and 2-3 shift valve mod would've been a good/cheap upgrade...the 1st increases the servo apply area by about 30 percent over stock and the 2nd offers a marked improvement in durability. Using the shift valve modification and putting the shifter in D3 (rather than overdrive) applies the over-run clutch in the first three gears, which improves durability by not abusing the input sprag. In the std configuration, the over-run clutch is only applied when the shifter is in D3 after the transmission upshifts into Third gear.
@andoletubeАй бұрын
You have to be careful with dedicated trans coolers. The vast majority of them are undersized for the job. Most radiator (water) coolers take a lot more heat out of the transmission than a dedicated (air) cooler. Unless you have room for a very large one, it's better to stick with factory - even more so in this case because Alex has sourced an up specced aftermarket radiator. I doubt he'd gain anything by running a dedicated cooler.

Awesome! But @14:02 I'm surprised you don't have a fluid evacuator. Suck the fluid out from the dipstick tube before dropping the pan. Saves a ton of cleanup time. I keep an evacuator just for trans fluid, when modding valve bodies or modulator and the pan has to keep coming off I'll even re-use the fluid.

Engine compartment looks so much better! Notching the battery tray…. Next time consider beginning by drilling a 1/2” or larger hole to form what will be the inner corner. A radius is stronger because it spreads the load, whereas a 90° focuses the force at a single point (increasing the chance of cracking.) Can I steer you away from the disc grinder? A quality portable jigsaw (Bosch, etc) if you match the teeth pitch to the material thickness, is safer for eyes and ears, doesn’t throw grit everywhere, and reduces finish work because it gets you closer to final dimensions. Countersinking the upper radiator straps - low low low rpm on the drill for countersinking, with a few drops of oil. Can’t wait to see it launch! Great score on this truck. I love seeing you undo the errors of past owners! 🔧 It’s inspiring to see you dive into these with gusto and confidence. 💪🏻

Alex--so freakin glad you got the Typhoon!! Love this project! You have the same OCD that I do and I can really see me doing everything you do. Cannot wait to see this thing when you're done. And a high five to Max for doing such a great job on the quality of the videos.

No fluff just LEGIT STREET CAR STUFF! You are very lucky to be able to work on and drive so many interesting vehicles. Growing up in Chicago myself, I used to repair and sell cars - current count around 300. I would love to see a video series on a Acura Integra or RSX.
