Ah yes, the silver series era. Didn’t care for them at the time, but I sure do appreciate them for what they are now. Thanks Dennis.

I had the bigger brother to that reel, It caught a lot of Fluke fishing in Sandy Hook Bay and the ocean side of Sandy Hook New Jersey, back in the late '60s, and early 70's. Even though I thoroughly rinsed and dried it after every trip, eventually the salt water took its toll. I seem to remember having to replace the bail line roller once or twice.

That's my neighborhood! Thanks. Yes the cosmetics and the metals often corroded on these. Salt was the culprit for sure. Dennis

Another very nice reliable reel...boy that pinion gear was caked with some old grease..nice video Dennis..

Yes it was, Most reels that sit a while get the dried grease. This was even more than usual - Thanks for the note - Dennis

I just bought one of these 2 weeks ago. Great reels! I rebuilt mine and put it on a 6' Okuma Celilse rod. It catches fish!

I'm sure it does. I took this one fishing and it was perfect and still catching fish - Best wishes - Dennis

This is one of my favorite reels. I have two of them and I added a second ball bearing to both. I akso have 2 700C and 2 500C which are both smaller than this reel. I added a second ball bearing to all of these. They were already great little reels but they become even better with that second bearing. I have almost two complete sets of all the Daiwa Silver Series reels. The 7000C was my first surf reel along with a Penn 7o6Z that I got back in the mid 1970s. When I added the second bearing I took the main gear and carefully put it into my drill and spun the gear while holding the short main gear shaft against some fine sandpaper . That will take care of the flared end of the main gear shaft but be very very careful. You can’t put metal back if you remove too much. There is a KZbin video about adding the second bearing to these reels. The thing that struck me the first time I saw these small silver series reels was the quality and durability of such small reels. They are built every bit as well as their bigger brothers the 7000C and 9000C. Great video of one of my favorites! Thanks Dennis. PS. I serviced a gorgeous and very high quality Mitchell 4470 saltwater reel this afternoon. It is a beauty inside and out! - Chris

How do you determine what size ball bearing you need when you want to replace a bushing with it?
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
You need three measurements, usually in mm First is the outside diameter, second in the inside diameter and the last is the height of the bearing.

are blue fish good to eat, or just fun to catch and release?
@surfcat20512 жыл бұрын
Small blues are good to eat and they are great fighters. If you choose to eat larger ones they are best in early spring before they start to feed heavily on menhaden ( BTW Dennis, alewife is not another name for a menhaden, just saying 😉). You can smoke the bigger ones but there are consumption advisories on them.
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
I second that. I am a catch and release person unless the fish is injured - swollen the hook, etc. If that is the case, it's food - Thanks
@draidt2 жыл бұрын
Fun to catch, very oily and strong taste, best to smoke em.

@@2ndChanceTackle same here, there always seems to be a scare about eating from this or that body of water. I throw most everything back and hope my great, great grandkids can have a chance to enjoy the sport

Do you know when the 8350HRL was made ? It's essentially a cupped rotor version of this, but made in Korea.
@2ndChanceTackle2 жыл бұрын
My guess , I don't know for sure, is the 1970s
@TylerSnyder3052 жыл бұрын
@@2ndChanceTackle It certainly has a 70's reel look to it but I always wondered if there's any reason they might possibly continue them on into the 80's after the skirted spool models were taking over.
