Same with me, I ordered them a month ago and the fitter ordered the pros on accident lol came in yesterday. I am a decent ball striker, just gotta fix my hook and should be good enough to play them. I went in thinking I wasn't gonna leave with a callaway iron but just loved the feel too much

X Forged CB consistency of distance was impressive. Essentially it was half a club longer than the other two irons, mostly due to lower launch angle which in turn gave lower spin. For some reason I really like the slightly industrial look of the X Forged CB. It would be fun to test them against my i210s. The obvious combo set is the Apex Pro 21 and MBs, it is just a shame that the Pro 21 suffers from a bad case of Cobra-itis (large and over numerous branding on back of club), IMO it ruins the look of what would otherwise be almost as beautiful as the MB.
@jeffpigott24403 жыл бұрын
Apex Pro seems like it would compete directly with TM P770. Also seems like that Tungsten in the AP helped launch and spin align closely with the MB blade.
@2ndswing3 жыл бұрын
For sure. Both the P770 and Apex Pro 21 models have a players shape to them but are built with the distance technologies inside

The dynamic loft is what is happening (see time index 19:10): MB 23.5, Apex Pro 24.0, X Forged 21.2(???) - I would check the actual loft of the X Forged as it appears to be bent stronger than expected - I would also check the lie angle dynamically as the Apex Pro with the Tungsten may have it slightly flatter at impact - before you make your final decision, I would re-compare setting the dynamic loft more similar by weakening the X Forged
@2ndswing3 жыл бұрын
Hi Paul thanks for watching! I agree for some reason I delivered a lower dynamic loft with the X-Forged. I did double check the loft on our fitting heads and they were 33* on both the X-Forged CB and Apex Pro 21. Trust me I have hit many shots with both models and still see the same differences.
@wallstreetoneil3 жыл бұрын
@@2ndswing appreciate the reply - i would still retest it, bending it weaker by a degree, since you like the sound/feel better just as test of the actual head's design from a spin perspective - from what I've seen from the TXG guys commenting on dynamic loft and lie angles, and seen myself as I am local to them and have been fit there, my guess is that the Tungsten toe weight of the Pro is keeping the face from shutting as quickly and possible keeping the dynamic toe flatter - and thus the differences
@2ndswing3 жыл бұрын
All interesting stuff! I just can't have a 7iron in my bag that spins too low. I'm always in the mid to might 5000s and I don't need to hit it further. I feel i would need to bend the X-Forged to 35* to get the same spin numbers and I do worry about gaping through the bag. When my irons arrive I will need to recheck spin and carry gaping with each wedge which is something always necessary. Interesting with the toe weight it could quite possibly be the cause of not being able to get that toe to turn over so dynamic lie and loft can be influenced. Can't wait to test more with my customers to see any trends.

What am I missing that the X forged CB is more money per club than the MB or the Apex Pro? Is there that much of a technology jump?

Man I wish the apex pro didn’t have so much offset. Wish they would have been closer to the MB
@nealfreeman013 жыл бұрын
Great stuff. I have my Apex Players set ordered. I did have to adjust my lie angles differently than the last set that I had. even with the less offset, I was a degree flat so the ball didn't go left as much, normally I am standard, and your video showed the same results. Keep up the good work.

Great review. I hit the x forged and they felt great. But for better consistency due to more forgiveness I’m leaning towards the Apex Pros for my AW - 7 and regular Apex for 4-6

Sounds like he could go w the standard callaway combo MB/Pro set - seem like great irons!
@TRIKushbeachside3 жыл бұрын
Just from a fit perspective why not use the CBs and weaken them a degree? The lofts would match the MBs and the offset would be decreased slightly. Seeing as how you liked the feel of the CB more it just seems to make more sense to weaken it giving you more spin/height/distance and reduce some of the offset. I wish I had a little bay with a GC or track man lol might actually have a chance at making a little $ playing

Great comparison video ! Whats the highest handicap you would put the apex pro 21 into thats a descent ballstriker ?
@robertacierno28033 жыл бұрын
I’ll answer for Thomas and Drew, lol. They don’t like to just assign a handicap range for certain clubs. Handicap can be affected by so many different aspects of your golf game. I’m a 16-18 handicap, and I’m playing apex pro 19’s in my short irons, cause I’m a decent ball striker with irons...but as the clubs get longer, I struggle with consistency of distance and dispersion. Luckily my short game is good! Lol. But I use the standard apex 19 in 7 iron down, and I play a hybrid instead of a driving iron. To each their own! Hope that helps...

In terms of shaping the ball, Is Apex Pro workability pretty much close to the MB?
@petegalindez99613 жыл бұрын
Great video! Nice to see how the sausage is made…my biggest issue trying to make a blended set. I’m looking to the Apex for my lower irons, and the Apex Pro for the higher irons (shorter clubs). However, it’s hard to blend these two as the lofts are so different. So, if I try to do the Apex to the 7 iron, then do the Pro starting at the 8, that’s a 6.5 degree jump! I’m dealing with that in my current irons (CF 16 Apex/Apex Pro), where there is a 7 degree difference between my 7 and 8…how do you deal with that? Do you get the 7 weakened a degree or so and the 8 strengthened a degree or so, or do you do something else?
@2ndswing3 жыл бұрын
This is a great question Pete! This happens all the time in our fittings. Our fitters will work with the golfers to blend them together so that it's roughly 4-5 degrees between each, and it's consistent. In this case, it would likely be a combination of making Apex Pro stronger and Apex weaker.

Hey guys, I love this channel. I'm curious, do you guys do any retro testing? I'd like to see an Old Irons vs New Irons. Like the "Browning 440 irons vs Cobra Rad-speed Irons or the Titleist T 400". Plus, the TrackMan Golf shot analyzer of the older irons would be very interesting to see. Thanks

A question: how does this test for you compare with using these clubs outside on the course including different types of courses? I have found sometimes when I have tested clubs indoors or even on a range and thought something made sense then took them to different courses they did not perform as well and similarly others were better- flight patterns, course conditions etc.

Great video as usual! I love ur guys vids, content and tests, combined w great tech is always on point. I just think the videos could be 30-40% shorter, there is just too much dialogue, explaining things ur audience already knows. Get to it, we want numbers. Dialogue is great with regard to how a club feels, sounds, or looks from address, but anything else is just noise. This is mostly for the Host, who talks incessantly, doing his best to make transitions, but the reality is less is more.
@coombesy23 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the videos. When you combo the sets and the lofts are 1* different will you match the lofts and that will match the spin rates?
@2ndswing3 жыл бұрын
Most likely yes. It comes down to the gaping yardage & spin rates between each club. More loft = more spin. - Thomas

Hi, im planning to go combo set with the mb and pro, do you recomend me to change the loft to 1 degree stronger on the mb or 1 degree weaker on the pros?

@banditbaker16753 жыл бұрын
That was an interesting vid, many thanks. I'm interested to understand why Thomas had preselected the shaft that he would use, I'm using that the LZ gives him more height & spin. It would be interesting for the shaft nerds amongst us to see him hit a selection of other shafts with the Apex MB to see how they affected the spin & height numbers? Plus it will also be great to see him hit his new Irons when they arrive.

@banditbaker16753 жыл бұрын
@@mattdurrr5731 The flex & weight of the shaft also affect the spin & height
@mattdurrr57313 жыл бұрын
@@banditbaker1675 in my experience, and im basing this on the only 2 sets of clubs ive ever owned, one fitted with proper shaft stiffness and weight, the other bought directly off the rack, and the fitted set with much stiffer shafts spins so much more than the less stiff shaft. so maybe im the exception to the rule but for me, i don't think shaft has anything to do with spin and its purely in the club head design.
@banditbaker16753 жыл бұрын
@@mattdurrr5731 Being technical for a moment, the main cause of spin upon the ball is the dynamic loft at impact. But in the golf swing the shaft flexes in three separate directions, (lead deflection, droop deflection and twist deflection), all of which will influence the clubheads contact with the ball, which will, in turn, affect the spin, the launch angle, the peak height and ball flight. So the shaft does influence spin through its effect on the clubhead and strike.

Should’ve gone with the XForged CB and weakened them 1 degree to adjust spin. The Apex Pro 21 is clangy loud and feel seems off, almost synthetic. Feel is as big a deal as spin and carry to me. XForged is spectacular in that category.

Thank you for these amazing videos! I would like to upgrade my 714 AP2 irons and really like the Apex Pros because they are slightly longer and more forgiving without sacrificing too much spin. Im considering a combo set because as a 3 handicap with decent ball striking I’d like a bit more control in my short irons. I’m wondering if it makes sense to make the cut over to the MBs only for PW and AW or alternatively go with specialty wedges (eg. SM9). Any thoughts?
