NYC rappers are obsessed with punchlines which comes from Comedy. Double Entreas, punches, and word play aren't the only measurement of a great song. There are alot of great songs by Smokey Robinson who is the greatest song writer of all time that have none of these techniques. NYC fell because they got to zoned out with overblown techniques and forgot innovation, purpose and charisma makes greatness. The Brown Skin Anti Christ.

@@MrGenoboss Pac is from New York and was born in Brooklyn, NY. His first rap name was MC New York. So many were envious of Tupac who spread so much rumors that they have people hating him without even listening to his music. I was old school and didn't really listen to the new Rap of the early 90s so I bought into the hype that Tupac was this overrated rapper. But it's not like me to just leave it at that I had to listen to his music first and when I did I was blown away. Tupac is way better than Biggie for even after listening to Biggie I admit he is great but I wasn't blown away. Tupac is on another level altogether like Eminem just something you don't come across everyday someone that gifted and set apart. The Brown Skin Anti Christ.

I totally agree. Being lyrical to me is being able to paint a picture with words, connect with a listener. Being lyrical isn’t always about complex rhyme schemes or double syllables!! I’d listen to Tupac over Cannibus any day lol! And by the way some of my favourite hip hop artists include Kool G Rap, Big Pun, Biggie, Big L, Gza. But lyricism covers many aspects!!

Couldnt agree more everybody think just because you can rhyme one word 10 times or rap fast you are lyrical. For me lyrical is the words u are using, the message, the knowledge you dropping, the storys , poetry , painting a picture etc. Like Nas and Pac. Them 2 are the best to ever do it. Thats why you can study them 2 lyrics.

and thats where the bias and stupid criteria of "lyrical" comes from. niggas think lyrical means if someone is NY or raps in a NY cadence or rhyme pattern notice how everybody in his best lrycist list is NY except EM and em gets by because his rhyme pattern is adjacent or similar to aestehthic to other NY rhyeme patterns to pass off as "best lrycist" to people like him. ask him about real lyrical wordsmiths like e-4o and he'll prolly say "hes not good" and we all know that is only because 40 isnt from NY or has a NY pocket of rhyming. its all regional bias

I get tired of hearing these dudes characterize 2Pac as not being a lyricist. Sure, maybe he didn't attempt to drop clever lines, metaphors, and such as often as others but that was on purpose. I feel like 2Pac remains the greatest lyricist in the history of hiphop because he understood that storytelling, substance, and emotional awareness are far more important than clever lines that lack depth. And let's be honest, whenever these dudes callout whatever rappers they consider lyrical it's funny how irrelevant most of them are nowadays. Whereas 2Pac's impact and relevancy has only grown stronger since his death in 1996. And don't get it confused, I enjoy lyrical rap but the context of the lyrics matter. I'm not really interested if a rapper is dropping meaningless bars about drugs, women, gunplay, and/or other topics merely for the sake of bragging. There needs to be a relatable story and a purpose to it. What truly makes 2Pac's music (and music in general) timeless is when the content speaks to the human/social condition because that never loses its relevancy nor becomes outdated. This is why Shakespeare's literature is still taught and read to this day... because the core principles of his stories/plots remain relevant and relatable to past, present, and future generations. That said, 2Pac's music is generational and most other rappers' music is not.

Tupac wrote lyrics like someone who studied Shakespeare. His rhyme schemes followed similar patterns while still conveying deep, soulful messages and cohesive storytelling. Even when he used basic aa bb cc etc type patterns which you find in nursery rhymes it was incredibly emotive and compelling. Instead of playing around with individual words and their syllables and homophones, he rhymed different words and phrases, and structured his stanzas like you would an English poem. He also made use of alliteration and other figures of speech associated with English poetry. Tupac was more like a fine artist or renaissance artist compared to most rappers who are more like graffiti artists.

Lot of Lyricist sound good but have no message or point to their music. After about 7 or 8 songs their albums get boring. Pac music was great and came at you from multiple angles. Pac entertained while educating at the same time with his Emotional Energetic Passionate Storytelling & Lyrical Content.

It's crazy how if a person doesn't say your favorite rapper is the best in all categories he has to be attacked personally. He gave his opinion. His rap ability was not as clever as Biggie, Nas, Jay-z etc. Overall. And that is probably true, he wouldn't beat Biggie in a battle rap.

@@mullersarin1587 But I thought Biggie made all of his music straight from the dome? Isn’t that what you all usually credit him for? Why are u so offended I said Tupac wasn’t a battle rapper but a writer? It seems that offended you. If you wanna go there we can. Tupac may not have been a freestyle beast. But you let him sit down a put pen to paper he would write some sh!t that would be right their on the level with your favorite lyricist. Don’t get it twisted. I don’t understand.even the masters of this craft say pac was a lyricist. I couldn’t name you a Rakim song or album title and I know he was a lyricist……..from the few songs I’ve heard,he was ahead of my time n I just never got into his music but saying he’s not a lyricist is being disingenuous

I don’t think people know how hard it is to rap about REAL SHIT… it’s is to embellish your rhymes especially make believe… Like Biggie saying he got 7 Mac 11s about 8 38s 9, 9s Mac 10s the shits never end… Everybody knows it’s fantasy but it sounds good… Pac made reality sound great on a beat he was felt because he’s a poet…
