What a great song this is by E.T. I remember it being played on the radio back in '75. Great steel working by Lynn Owsley. Also the great Johnny Gimble sawing the fiddle, and of course the usual great picking by another fellow Texan, Pete Mitchell.......E.T.'s very last lead guitar player. R. I. P. The Texas Troubadour ERNEST TUBB Pete Mitchell 🎸 Johnny Gimble 🎻

ET is still one of the very best to me. He was a pioneer in Country Music. Him and Eddie Arnold kept us going through the 40's.

I honestly really like late ET stuff.

It's still good it just doesn't kick ass like 1959-1966 ET did. Some people really like Webb Pierce's mid 70's grandpa voice stuff too,,,,, I don't understand it AND I'm jealous. I wish I could enjoy it.

You can't hardly wait till I get home You go through my clothes where to find two combs And you ain't lookin' for the wear and tear when you do If you don't quit checkin' on me I'm checkin' out on you. Ain't nothin' in my pockets but the car keys and a dollar Note you're gonna find on my shirt is the rain around the collar And baby that's somethin' that can only be blame on you If you don't quit checkin' on me I'm checkin' out on you. Now I can't even stop off for a beer Cause the bartender's gettin' tired of sayin' ET ain't here And if you don’t cuss me then what am I gonna do If you don't quit checkin' on me I'm checkin' out on you.

I love your commentary on these albums you post. I would really like to meet you someday, John. I guess in a way I've already.met you like 20 years ago....well at least my namesake met you. 😀😛 I used to hear my dad mention ET and the record shop all the time and I would hear dad listening to him but I just didn't get it. One day I heard Half a Mind and Buddy Emmons Steel Guitar and my love for ET was born. I know the folks who live with me, my lady and her kids, think I wear ET out. But really that's not possible because he just has so many of them that are great.

Ol' Sam King from Spring Texas,, he tried to tell me the ENTIRE plot to the Lonesome Dove Mini Series one day at work because I hadn't watched it,,, he was unstoppable,,, I thought I was gonna LOSE IT !! "AND THEN ROBERT DUVALL said"..................... LOL... ET's Half A Mind is the just the kind of performance that would get a person hooked on ET,, it's excellence on many levels..

@@2packs4sure that really is funny and it made me laugh, thanks I needed that kind of a day starter. I'm glad you took that how I meant it because I got to thinkin after I commented that I was hoping you wouldn't think I was being a smart aleck. On the contrary, I really would like to meet you in person. I just have a feeling that you're a rare breed in this day and time. And I mean only the best buy that. I miss both my mom and my dad and they were both those rare people im talking about.
@2packs4sure4 жыл бұрын
@@samking73 It's a funny story,,, NOW,,, lol,,,, at the time it really wasn't. It was a VERY long day. I didn't see anything in your comment that could be construed as smart alecky but it IS SO EASY to offend people by accident with the printed word when if it was spoken person to person with inflection and obvious humor there'd be no problem. I for one am almost impossible to offend,, even when people are TRYING to offend me I find it humorous. If someone I really respect and or admire was crapping all over me then I would be hurt but still not offended. Hey, if it ever lines up where it worked out I'd be happy to meet,,, BUT,, if you have a favorite mini series you want to tell at me line by line then NO !! :)

@@goodolcountry7915 You started me listening to the Hank Williams album and ET is just off his feed,, then I listened to my post of ET's Saturday Satan Sunday Saint album from a year later and ET sounds much better. I think ET had a cold or something when he cut the Hank Williams tracks in late 67'.
@goodolcountry79155 жыл бұрын
@@2packs4sure I haven't heard many songs on that album, but I'm trying to get a copy of all his albums so.
I get what you're saying about his voice. It's funny to me that Hank William's still gets some attention here and there but never anything about ET

Hey, I always thought Willie in his youth (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ppi1qoZ_idhofZY) was just being a little Tubby. Of course, Willie was just being another Texas Troubadour.
