Ernest Tubb's music is a part of our lives every day!!!

The live show was in 1965 in Washington state. Ernest played the the high school auditorium in New Westminster before going on to Washington. I got Ernest's autograph a chance to say he is high on my hero list.

One of the reason why I really like Ernest tubb because he looks like my uncle, my mom's elder brother. I never felt of dislike listening to his beautiful songs all day long especially his raspy voice.

@bobnelson59635 жыл бұрын
@@samking73 Yes, he had a very bouncy (I heard it described as happy and playful) style. Charleton and Hughey are the two styles I comb through the most in search for direction in my own approach to the instrument: Charleton's very musical approach to phrasing and mix of sparse two note, to complex three note intervals, and Hughey's approach to obscure harmonies, bar shiver and upper register work, along with both's superior technique on E9 And C6 is what draws me their way.

So that was Cal Smith on “Lonesome 7-7203”? (Great number, has a jazz feel to it). Anyone else from the band singing here?
@2packs4sure3 жыл бұрын
Yep that was Cal, I don't think there is more band members on this but I can't remember,, years ago there used to be a full 2cd set of the full show with ALL the band doing there solos and what not but it's long out of print.
@geneguitar17 жыл бұрын
Would anyone know what the band line up was on this? You are so right about Mr. Tubb being in good voice. The one thing I miss on this is Buddy Charlton's steel. It sounds mixed too low most of the time. Might be a problem on my end. Mr. 2pack4sure, God bless you for putting up this great, great music.
@2packs4sure7 жыл бұрын
This was the "Great Band" lineup, Leon Rhodes [gt], Cal Smith [gt], Buddy Charleton [steel], Jack Drake [bass], Jack Greene [drums], and ET. As far as the mix goes, there is no mix. ET's ex drummer Jan Kurtis set up an Ampex stereo reel to reel and let it fly, it came out amazingly well considering.

I just talked today to the guy who was engineer on this recording, altho ex troubadore drummer is credited for the recording, he had helped. I was told that most of the songs were recorded in a recording studio since the acoustics were terrible in the spanish castle and that make sense since the recording quality is really good, too good in fact.
@2packs4sure5 жыл бұрын
That guy is confused,, I think he's talking about the attempts that Decca made to do a live E.T. recording. They were never happy with what they got so they worked up a few "pseudo live" albums. One was the famous MIdnight Jamboree album hosted by E.T. with various artists and two more albums that were exclusively E.T. and The Troubadours. The first pseudo live E.T. album was the Ernest Tubb ON TOUR album Decca DL-74321 from December 1962. The second pseudo live E.T. album was the HITTIN' THE ROAD album Decca DL-74681 from November 1965. Those were both "PSEUDO" live albums, they used E.T.'s existing Decca recordings with live chatter and crowd noise to simulate a live recording just as your friend described. Decca did quite a few variations of the pseudo live albums in the 60's, On Stage At The Grand Ole Opry was another I think,, Saturday Night at the Grand Ole Opry volumes one thru whatever,,,,,,,, all pseudo live,, I bought a couple of those WAY back but quickly figured out the fakery. I can't listen to any of those except I can tolerate the Midnight Jamboree album for some reason, I believed it was actually live for a good while way back then until I obtained a 45 rpm of Webb Pierce's song SWEET LIPS which is on the album,, it became obvious very quickly that it was the exact same recording. RCA Victor also did at least one pseudo live Grand Ole Opry double album that I owned but RCA also managed some excellent REAL live country recordings. Anyway........ The audio on this video is FOR REAL LIVE,,,, recorded by E.T.'s ex drummer Jan Kurtis at the Spanish Castle ballroom in Seattle, Washington in late 1965. Believe me.
