@valuecalc2 жыл бұрын
But J.R. was right about Gair.
@jlh4jc2 жыл бұрын
In a way it's humiliating. But Jock did Gary a favor. First, if my Dad left me 10 million and made a provision to live off the interest for a few years, I'd take that any day and twice on Sundays. If you can't live off that, you're horrible at managing money, which brings me to the second point. Jock cared enough for his son to save him from himself. Addicts can blow through a lot of money on booze, cocaine, and women in a hurry. Jock made a provision for Gary to keep him from ending up destitute in the event of a relapse.
@billywall77522 жыл бұрын

Actually, Bobby resigned as president of Ewing Oil and JR was reinstated at Mitch and Lucy's wedding. The quote you're referring to was regarding Jock withdrawing Ewing Oil money for the Takapa project while Bobby was trying to use the same cash to close the deal. Bobby stormed over to the Cattlemen's Club where Jock was celebrating with JR, Punk, and someone else and confronted him. Jock proceeded to put Bobby in his place by telling him "Just who in the hell do you think Ewing Oil is boy? It's me!" a moment before telling Bobby the before mentioned quote.

Of all the prime-time dramas, this was one of the biggest. Friday night was the night! Dukes of Hazard, Dallas, Falcon Crest...and I can’t remember if it was Fantasy Island or some other Friday late show. Saturday night was Hee Haw, I think. I never missed that...and The Barbara Mandrel Show. Never missed that. Sunday night sucked, I think, because we couldn’t watch shows later than 8pm. Bedtime for school the next day. Blah. But when I got into middle and high school, I liked watching 60 Minutes, because I thought it was cool to be the type of reporter where you do a story for an entire hour, talking and interviewing people. I always had this fantasy that my school presentations would wind up sounding like a 60 Minutes segment. Then I realized just how much work I wasn’t willing to put into it haha.

JR EWING should have gained 100% control of Ewing Oil upon Jock's death, even though Wes Parmalee was absolutely Jock Ewing until the gutless writers and producers got cold feet. The final years of Dallas became a laughable joke but with Wes as Jock, it would've been solid gold and brought sanity back to the show. As nasty as JR was, he would’ve never considered offing Bobby to win. Ray or Gary, maybe. But not Bobby.

I forgot how riveting this show could be. That goddamn JR Ewing was something else!

J.R. was a twat. But the character is what made the show worth watching. "Who shot J.R." one of the most memorable cliff hangers in TV history.

They just don't make TV shows like this anymore, Dallas, Falcon Crest, Dynasty, Knots Landing, The Colts, That was classic TV Not what's on today.

The acting career of Larry Hagman, after I Dream of Jeanie ended, was pretty much down and out. especially after the shows: "The Good Life" and "Here We Go Again" bombed. Then this role of JR Ewing came along and it was a true God send for Hagman, CBS and the viewers of Dallas.

He was perfect as J.R. hands down!

Dallas was originally supposed to revolve around the character Pamela Barnes Ewing caught between 2 feuding families and in a "Romeo and Juliet" relationship with Bobby. JR was supposed to be a supporting character. Then JR became an iconic villain and the show revolved around his character instead. I read that Larry is the only actor to appear in every episode of Dallas. He really did make that show.

Yes. I remember watching the UK Soap Opera Emmerdale and Tom King processed a will where each one of his Sons Matthew, Jimmy & Carl got a percentage of the Haulage Business, their Youngest Brother Max had died earlier that year yet when they found out that 10% went to Miss Scarlet Mary Nichols not to mention Six Rooms in a Mansion they were shocked. It was their younger half sister who was conceived with his Nurse Carrie while his Wife was dying. If that weren't enough to beat the band Matthew tried to buy her Mother off with $500.000.00 and when Jimmy visited her she asked which one of the Ewing Brothers was he like JR, Bobby, Ray or even Sue Ellen.

In my own way I did feel kind of sorry for Ray & Gary but neither of them had any business sense to handle themselves with the Big Boys of Texas in the Corporate World, most notably The Cartel. What Jock did with Gary was very smart, he knew how he had a History of squandering Money. As for Ray, he may have had Ewing Blood, but he didn't have Southworth Blood and since Southfork was owned by Miss Ellie's Family he didn't have a legal or family claim like Bobby, JR, or even Gary.

Jock was right about Gary. Years later on Knots, Gary squandered his inheritance on an ill-advised start up company and went broke. On the new Dallas, Gary was still broke.

That's right. Ray came out quite well. He'd only been a Ewing (acknowledged anyway) for a short time but came away with a $10 million trust and $200 million in Ewing Oil stock. Also, Jock had given Ray a section of Southfork, and that was even before he knew Ray was his son. Jock had previously mentioned a multi-million dollar trust fund for his sons (when he's adding Ray to it). It was never stated whether Gary had access to that.

He ended up giving his shares to Lucy right after. He didn't want anything to do with it.

@@rogermaddox6134 Oh absolutely! The fact that Gary #1 couldn't handle business back in the day was living proof of that.

Gary lost his wealth on Tidal Energy but according to the last few seasons he had enough money to start a new constuction company, and according to the Knots Landing TV movie, Gary and Karen had a company together because they hired Abby to work with them after the IRS took all of Abbys money.

Godfather vs Dallas. Similarities between the Ewing and Corleone sagas: The story begins when the youngest, purest son (Bobby/Michael) of a powerful, corrupt family (the Ewings/the Corleones) brings home an outsider as his true love (Pam/Kay). The family patriarch (Jock/Vito) is a formidable self made man. The eldest son (JR/Sonny) is ambitious, unpredictable and anxious to prove himself, the middle son (Gary/Fredo) is weak and eventually "exiled" from the family. There is a fourth, "honorary" son (Ray Krebbs/Tom Hagen) who is fiercely loyal to the family but nonetheless remains an outsider, and a disenfranchised female family member (Lucy/Connie). Bobby/Michael resists becoming involved in the family business, but is forced to take control after an assassination attempt on JR/Vito. Following his father's death, Bobby/Michael becomes further sucked into/corrupted by the family business, and eventually Pam/Kay leaves him. He has another wife (April/Apollonia) who is brutally murdered on their honeymoon in Europe (France/Italy) by international enemies of the family business. Bobby/Michael returns home to avenge her death. The Next generation has a Villain-John Ross/Vincent and a good guy- Christopher / Anthony Both families have enemies: The Corleones have The 5 fasmilies and Hyman Roth. . The ewings have cliff barnes, Nicholas, Jeremy Windell. Bothfamilies have allies The Corleones have: Clemenza, neri and Tessio The Ewings have Punk Anderson, harv Smithfield, Clayton farlow and marilee stone. The way the house is set up in the original DALLAS mini series is very reminiscent of the Nevada compound where the Corleone family live in "The Godfather Part 2". This, in turn, was based on the famous Kennedy compound of the 1960s.
