Also, as far as Courtney's growls from what I've heard she was in a band with her brother called Unicron. As her brother started like heavier music and wanting to write heavier music she decided to start trying to scream. And she got really good at it (obviously lol) and later joined Iwrestledabearonce. I think there's a video from the girl in Jinger, doing the voice/scream. - Flipping right over, my Aunt is an operatic singer, trained from a young age. She still does daily vocal exercises today, in her 80s. It's her love, so she does it. Over the years, she's moved from being Leading Lady in various productions to becoming a respected tutor. Now she has many styles covered amongst her students. There's a correct way to sing that's turned many so-so singers into distinctive vocalists.

Even for Men? I know the breathing technics from Didgeridoo to don`t hurt my troath but I never got really into it....I can growl for like 20 min and then it`s over so I recon I`m doing something wrong as the vocal coards are not stressed by it (I take care of that! And I`m not a singer in a Band @ do it for my own fun)

So, to learn how to scream, it takes a bit of experimentation. I found my scream by basically sighing deeply. You get a low rattle in the throat that isn't painful or uncomfortable when you sigh really hard, that's the exact feeling you need when you do false chord screams. Once you know what that rattle feels like, the rest is just focusing your breathing and using your diaphragm and mouth shape to make the sounds you want to make. Anyone can learn how to scream, it's one of those things that is easy to learn and hard to master. Give it a try, grannies!

I learned how to scream well. It takes a lot of practise. At first it hurts but I found how to do it in a healthy way. A vocal coats is highly recommanded.😃

Most people just kinda find out that they can do false chord vocals by accident, or they're already into metal and they try it and find that they can. Very few vocal trainers understand this technique. Melissa Cross for example has been teaching for over 30 years, but she's few and far in between.

I'm sure people have said this already, but there is a correct way to "growl" or "scream". It shouldn't ever hurt of irritate your throat to do it because what you're doing with your vocal cords is not tightening things (typically) but relaxing things.

I know it will probably be a while before you guys come back to this band, but like everybody here has been saying, their song "Constance" is a must listen that I think you guys will truly appreciate 😊 Might make you a bit misty though, be warned. I've watched some hard Metalheads bawl for that song.

So first of all: You earned the like even more for the growls. Second of all: Matthew Heafy, from Trivium, said (if i remember correctly) that growling/screams are easier for him then normal speaking since he has proper training with a coach. (after blewing his voice out) Its all up to the technique if you don´t want to damage the own voice.
