When she changes her "facial expressions" I assume you are talking about her mouth more than her face. When she changes the shape of her mouth opening it changes the pitch and sound of her growl. That is why I like to watch the live versions over official videos. You get to see what her face actually does while performing the song. Great reaction again ladies!!

Courtney’s been doing it for years. I remember like a decade ago putting on shows for her first band called Unicron. Even crazier, Courtney has a growth on one of her vocal chords that she had to pretty much relearn how to do it all. Rule of Nines is a reference to how first responders assess burn victims at the scene. Lots of info on that stuff available on the internet, but essentially each limb is valued as being “9% of the body.”
@PatrickSilverRose4 жыл бұрын
If you want some more ladies who do extreme vocals, I HIGHLY recommend these tracks: Mikaela - Bring Me Blood, Infected Rain - Black Gold, Vintersea - Illuminated, Divitius - Memento Mori, Ignea - Queen Dies, Blackthorn - The Spectral Evidence, Straight Line Stitch - Black Veil. Ok I'll stop there because I'll keep going if I don't lol.

Introtyl. Death metal. November's grief. Also death metal. And the new Nervosa track. Not a single dude in any of those bands. Introtyl the production is a bit annoying. Drums are too loud in the mix and drown out the guitars a bit, and the drums just sound too triggered. Damn good music if you listen through that. November's Grief had 2 albums/demos back in 92. Sounds raw as hell and damned good. Nervosa is slightly blackened thrashy stuff. Awfully cheesy video, good tune. A step way above their previous albums, although its a new line-up aside from the guitarist

There is a very good reason for the change in expression when she's doing the "harsh" vocals. By changing your mouth shape and tongue position as she's doing you can drastically effect the sound of the scream, so as an example when she tucks he chin in and tightens her mouth more it gives it a lower more grunty tone and the more you loosen your mouth/jaw the higher the tone gets sounding more like a scream.

I'm glad you two reacted to the one-take performance. I honestly think it's better than the studio version, plus you get Courtney's personality showing. Other reactions for Spiritbox could be Perennial, Bleach Bath, Belcarra, and Holy Roller. Maybe you could do another double feature video for Holy Roller since there is the original music video, as well as an animated music video with a collaboration from the vocalist from Crystal Lake, Ryo Kinoshita.

You mentioned Iwrestleabearonce, Tatiana and Eugene have said that IWABO and Courtney was one of their influences for Jinjer music and style, wich is rather cool. And Courtney humor? Shes funny as hell, they let the humor side come out with IWABO alot, some of their videos are incredibly funny :)

Courtney uses false chord screaming and she admits she's not very efficient with it but she's very loud. Tatiana uses more low fry screaming which is typically a lot more efficient and so she doesn't need to exert as much, plus she's an amazingly efficient singer. There are other factors which determine which is more efficient for different singers, but these are the main two in comparing Courntey and Tatiana
@magshype3 жыл бұрын
False Chord vs Fry, two completely different techniques, both are great although i still think tati is the queen of metal.

So if you really wanna delve deeper into the "women screaming/growling" -thingy, you should start with the (sort of) OGs, the lovely ladies who've fronted the band Arch Enemy. Check out Ravenous live in Tokyo in 2008 with Angela on vocals and then Nemesis live at Wacken 2016 for Alissa's vocals. Angela is the former vocalist (and current manager of the band) and Alissa is the current vocalist. After that there's all kinds of avenues to explore, for example Monochromatic Black.
@imcrazedandconfused4 жыл бұрын
Girls, to see some roots of female extreme vocals, you should react to e.g. ARCH ENEMY - NEMESIS (LIVE IN TOKYO!) from the 2008 Tyrants of the Rising Sun tour. This is the first singer of this band, Angela Gossow, the legit Godmother of Death Metal Growls and Screams. She is unbelievable and the concert is amazing, great perfection, great music, great vocals, great audience, pure power. They are THE most important band of Swedish Melodic Death Metal and their german singer Angela Gossow was/is iconic. There you can see the power of a woman who owns the stage like Tatiana, but more demonic. :-) After seeing your previous reactions to Spiritbox and Jinjer, I am 100% sure, that you will be mindblown with this one, too.
