It's been said before that this isn't Mighty Car Repair, but instead Modifications, but I mostly agree with you. Some are suggesting an engine swap, but I'd be really interested in modifying a turd engine with, say, ported heads, upgraded valve springs, a different cam, and . . . who knows what is available for a turd engine? Right? The whole thing from the beginning was *that* engine with a friggin turbo. Oh, . . . and a heavier clutch!

White smoke=coolant, so I'd agree.

mickeyt107 white smoke could be anything... usually I would expect bluesmoke for a complete engine failure, that usually indicated oil was burnt, blue+white usually indicates leaking gasket.. oil and coolant is slipping... also think to note, if an engine let's go that suddenly while full throttle, there will be oil exiting the engine.. if you blown a turbo before (I have) usually it's pours blueish smoke and it makes a horrible noise when it let's go until it seizes or stops from bearings letting go (will happen with a turbo suddenly blowing that's wipping around at 200,000+ RPM).. from the sounds of it and location of it.. my guess is transmittion blew and seized.. engine not cranking doesn't tell entire story.. it won't turn over if manual transmittion is seized up.. it may crank on some engines, depends on other factors.. if very tight tolerances and no play, then probably won't crank.. if their is some sloppiness, then may make grinding noise when trying to start..

It could be a cascading effect. Lots of boost, leading to lots of heat and cylinder pressure, blows out the headgasket so badly it injests enough coolant to bend a conrod or damage which locks it up. There is a chance its burnt a hole in a piston or lifted a ringland from the heat too.

Tom Jackson I doubt it... I'm not convinced specially looking at where smoke is puring from (started and finished) directly under the chassis and not from engine area, closer to the transmittion. I would totally agree if smoke was pouring out from engine bay (over or under) but it was pouring out closer to the rear tire.. even with a leaky exhuast, it would billow out of the exhaust tip still.. then when it was off and "dead" it was still smoking from under the center of chassis... where transmittion lives.. you can't judge engine failure on white smoke.. not always coolant.. if it's blue smoke on a gas engine, that usually indicating burning something it shouldn't (oil usually) or rather poor ratio on other fuel types.. black smoke on gas engine indicates a very shitty air/fuel ratio.. and way to rich, white smoke, requires further checks if it's not coming out of engine area or exhaust tip..

no you have to drop a a fwd mitsubishi eclipse GST motor in it. then you will have a 2.0L turbo fwd just like the eclipse in the us. you basically already have all the supporting mods from it. should be a straight forward swap unlike the vtec mini

Hindutyp Yup! off you're looking at a Plymouth Laser, 1st-2nd Gen Eclipse. Or (DSMs) Eagle Talons. That have a 4G63. I've driven an 1G Eagle Talon non-turbo with 4G63 before and had a blast in it. Sadly it was too beat up for me to buy. so I ended up with a 89' Mk1 Mr2 Supercharged. 😑😭😭

4G64 block from a Nimbus N84W, 4G63T Head from CP9A Evo 6, Some crazy porting both sides, 660cc Injectors, Lots of bolt on goodies from STM Motorsports. Hybrid TD05HL Turbo, Haltech ECU, Ethanol and lots of tuning and you will have a 10 second CJ5A Lancer Coupe. Oh and yes will need an uprated Clutch and Gearbox change too... No way that 5spd going to handle that monster of an engine :)

all of this is not worth to put in a car that initialy costes 3 grand mate, just chunk in a new 1.5 put that td04 back on it and do it again, these engines are cheap and since the gearbox is okay i think it should be worth a shot, just put better piston rings on it and re-seal everything and off you go

This is great base car for tuning, not that Mira (but big respect for small cars!). Marty should go for some proper tuning on 2SEXY. Front&rear bumper from Evo5, fenders a la Peugeot 306 Maxi, rear wing from Evo6, bonnet like Evo3, some light paint like green, yellow or blue, wheels Rotiform BLQ 19"... It would look like Proton Putra WRC or Impreza 22B

Being from the United States and living in Indiana, I always find it entertaining when you talk about E85 because I guess we take it for granted here as it is available pretty much everywhere. We live in the corn belt of the US so it is readily available, we even have an ethanol plant close by that manufactures it.

Joshua Rinehart I'm next door in Ohio, and it's very scarce here. there is exactly 1 e85 pump in my county. and even though we have several ethanol plants in the area, the local refinery(produces 25%of the gas sold in Ohio)/ fuel Depot don't have e85 available for the tankers to haul. talking to a fuel delivery driver the other day, to get e85 to deliver, he has to drive up into Michigan.

like rob says it might be salvageable as long as the bores for the pistons are not too badly scoured/damaged they can be replaced with the crank for the cost though its not worth doing and will be cheaper to drop another engine in it

The only way a blown head gasket could cause it to seize is if it overheated and I'm pretty sure he was keeping an eye on his temp. It's more likely that it was starved for oil.

it was the ridiculous amount of cylinder pressure vs those poor head studs designed for a measly ~70kw. Head gasket problem doesn't have to be caused by temps, this was pure force. I know this from personally experience unfortunately!

I said that when Marty first got it yet they won't listen. In the states they are Mirage which I seen both 4g63 swap also awd conversion. There's a select few who have done both but majority was just the 4g63 engine swap.

I said that too. Back in 2004 or so there was a guy in Australia who had a CC lancer coupe project installing a V6 twin turbo and conversion to AWD... and I always said that is something I wanted to do to my CB lancer (4g mirage in states) here in Tobago to convert it into a full on evo 1-2 or 3. But the costs involved are astronomical for parts with our import duties and exchange rates. But despite that, I'm looking into making that a reality possible to at least start the project next year end or so and will make that into my competition car and give the EVO 7 a little rest.
