When getting into AoS, the hardest thing for me was getting over how much the aesthetic of the undead-centric armies had changed, having been a huge fan of the Vampire Counts in FB, and generally being someone who gravitates towards necromancy as one of my favorite themes/tropes in fantasy overall. Part of me does appreciate that they kept some of the old timey "necromancer raises a giant skeletal horde" aesthetic for LoN, for whatever reason. Perhaps it just tickles my brain with familiarity. I'm probably in the minority here, but I feel like a lot of AoS aesthetics suffer from overdevelopment. Making things different for the sake of being different. Even if it's to make things different from a theme that GW set themselves in the Old World. An example being Nagash's new model, which when looking at it just registers as "stuff for the sake of stuff" to me. Or the entire Ossiarch Bonereapers roster, which if I had no frame of reference for and was shown by someone who told me that they were a race of aliens in a sci-fi setting, I'd believe it. Another being the mounts of the mortarchs that I look at and go "yeah, I don't even know what that's supposed to be." A vampire or traditional lich on a skeletal horse has a much eerier, if simplistic vibe to it, and above all one that I think is relatable. A lot of what makes necromancy a powerful narrative tool is that relatability, I think. That you're looking at something that is intrinsically human, or otherwise something of this world, but "wrong." Something that upsets the natural order. AoS doesn't really have a concept of that "natural order", being that it's a no holds barred multi-planar setting. Call me close-minded, but when you can expect anything, I think "anything" hits a lot weaker. Mechanically, I enjoy AoS a lot though, it's definitely an improvement over FB in that regard -- and the model quality is absolutely gorgeous.
@mogwaiman60484 жыл бұрын
I think the setting has the strength of introducing new concepts and being able to be different instead of recycling the same tropes. AoS is supposed to be more like Planescape instead of Greyhawk. This allows GW a lot more creative freedom than what it had in WHFB.

Very interesting video and thank you for talking about me ;) The forces of Death in Age of Sigmar are not nearly as united as most people think, which I being Nagash despise! Although I think it makes it a lot more interest. Also the Bonereapers would not hesitate to 'recycle' all the Deathrattle Kingdoms into Bonereapers. As quite simply Nagash no longer needs the Deathrattle now he has the Ossriarch Bonereapers. Also really hoping for some content in the Broken Realms or ideally a new Battletome for LoN. By the way the Undying King is a great shout out, one of my favourite books I have ever read!

Honestly I like the idea of an entire kingdom coming back from the dead and instead of being hostile and crazy to the living, their kind and respectful. - Like they were a powerful country during the age of myth lead by a wizard king who was as strong as he is compassionate but during age of chaos the kingdom was all but wiped except for some distance town/villages. - After the necroquake awaking the king and his undead followers/people. - He now aids the living descendants of his people that survived the fall and has begun rebuilding his kingdom and using his living subjects to act as traders and mediators with neighboring factions as to not freak out people or cause a war. - He wears a gold mask and armor concealing his skeleton appearance. He wants better for his people dead or alive.

@@2Tough Thank you for the kinds words, I’m actually trying to make a model of the undead wizard king as I type this. -There’s MASSIVE potential with the death rattle faction just wish GW put more effort into them making them their own bona fide army. -Could have official undead skeletal models Beastmen, dwarves giving us insight on how their culture/races buried and buried with (weapons, animal companions etc) Honestly I wouldn’t have been interested in this or AOS as a whole if it wasn’t for your videos about lore and stories, so thank you introducing me to it 👍

RATTLE ME BONES!!!
@guyperson7544 жыл бұрын
I’m in the middle of building my second AoS army and going out of my way to make it exclusively out of skeletons. My little story for them is that each one still has their memories and personalities from life, and they do their best to maintain internal peace as a normal kingdom. They are loyal to Nagash, but are too far away from other Death faction armies to justify expansion, so just maintain their borders and have some diplomatic talks with the Stormcast. They aren’t malicious, is what I’m getting at, but they are still loyal to Nagash. Thinking of what would happen when the Bonereapers come along, depending on what Bonereaper host finds them, my little skeleton kingdom would welcome them as allies and offer bones to the tithe. Not enough that they’d be wiped out with time, but enough that it is a consistent supply and encouraging the Bonereapers to not just take everything and instead stay and potentially garrison the kingdom as a healthy bone trade hub.

I’m still fairly new to AoS and dove straight into Destruction, but I love the Nagasj model so one of these days I’ll probably end up going down a death army. As for how DR and OSBR would interact probably the Bonereapers would have them begin the bone tithe to them. They are not above doing this to other undead. As there is a story of them subjecting a vampire knights order to the Bone Tithe that was in their territory.

If Deathrattle had to be expanded by Games Workshop, I think an easy and efficient way to do so would to inspire themselves of the old Tomb Kings: we already have Wight Kings (equivalent of Tomb Kings/princes in a way), Grave Guars (Tomb Guardians), black knights (Skeleton riders) and good old skeletons, but just imagine the possibilities... Skeleton archers, fast riders, liches, heralds, but also new constructs inspired of the Nehekaran ones: Warsphinxes, Necrosphinxes, necropolis knights, and so on... It would be glorious!!!! X3 For the Bonereapers interractions with the other Death Factions, seeing the way Katakros and Olynder teamed up, I think they would rather use the Dearthrattle as allies/canon fodders, but not as raw ressources... Well, except for those Stalliarch Lords B***ards ^^

I respectfully disagree with your position on OBR / Deathrattle interaction. OBR are Nagashs army, his agenda to change the living to the dead in a peaceful and structured realm. Sentient bone bois are part of such kingdom. The OBR might well use bone as a raw material but soldiers don’t necessarily salivate over the prospect of roasted civilian just because they’re hungry

Ok serious question. Deathrattle vs Deathwalker. Fundamental difference? I don't follow death as much so was just curious.

Question : Where the souls go when a undead really died? Is it destroyed forever or go back in some sort of cycle of life and dead?
@SerKawlin Жыл бұрын
In the current lore what happens is just a pure cycle. Nagash will capture the soul when the being in question does, then when the soul shatters or dies he absorbed the essence of the soul and remakes it either as a new construct or as a nighthaunt
@andrewhiggins99594 жыл бұрын
I would love them to make death rattle it’s own faction like flesh eaters. There’s is just so much narrative potential from them. In the case of the obr I see them and death rattle not being on the best of terms. After all what mighty wight king would submit to the will of constructed abominations like the obr. I can see no small amount of conflict between the two powers..

@vivalkyrie15304 жыл бұрын
This video really highlights why, for me, Deathrattle thematically work and the Ossiarch Bonereapers do not. DOn't get me wrong, the Bonereapers are a visually stunning range but something about them doesn't quite fit. To me the Deathrattle Legions are the epitome of the imagery for death as a faction, the idea of fighting against a inexorable wave of the decaying remnants of your ancestors really highlights the horror inherent to the army. That the Ossiarch are constructs makes them lose that aspect as they become essentially an army of golems, or like the Synths in Fallout 4.
@2Tough4 жыл бұрын
I agree, between the two (thematically) the Deathrattle win every time. Thank you for watching!
@donaldkelly98334 жыл бұрын
Do you think its problematic for the Death Faction to continue to grow restrained to Nagash as the only central figure? We don't really see any analog to the Mortachs in other Grand Alliances, so it is strange to me that each Army book has its own Main Leader but Nagash himself still pops in from time to time. Nagash being a playable option often feels out of place relative to his perceived power level.
