One trick that helps me when I come across a bolt that seems might break if I was to keep turning is to use a punch, drift or even an extension (for a socket) to loosen the thread bond. I put the drift on the center of the bolt's head and strike it with a hammer. It never has failed to loosen the bolts.

Yeah deff restore it. And u should try to run dial indicator gauge on that crankshaft before determing the rest of the project. You can test the stator side crank snout if u can somehow stand/mount the dial indicator correctly. Test the cranks runout and see if its in spec. Besrings can feel fine but it could be warped to crap after that hard of an impact. Then go from there on making your decision. Even if cranknis bad id re do the bike. Paint plastics. Fix chassis up like u did the warrior. And list it for 3k or 3500. Prob sell easier if u got oem plastics but I get it. Budget builds. Gotta love em!!! 😎

You would have seen the dodgy grab bar before buying the bike and the damage is probably less than it could have been but it may still be beyond economic repair.... hmm The problem is the cost of the head, I wondered if you could grind off the high spots, fit a new valve and one rocker just to see if it runs and tease out any other problems.
@lukecombs52423 жыл бұрын
300ex top end is the same so there is plenty of parts out there for it the bottom end of the 300ex is obviously the difference between the two but piston cylinder head valves rocker box even the timing chain is the same amount of links so it won’t be hard to source out parts for and the air box is also the same I hope this will help you find what you need for it I know these quads and also own a minty 1987 trx250x as well fun little quads for sure and decent giddy up for a 250 you can also take a 330 big bore for a 300ex and put it on the 250x and it makes it a 288cc big bore the 250x has a shorter stroke so they are quicker than the 300ex on low end and mid range but the 300ex has a higher top speed just sharing some of the knowledge I have on these quads with you good luck I think you should build it and bring it back to it’s former glory 🤙🏻

It really just needs a head and a pistion and rings to get it to run woops oh yeah a coil. not to mention the labor for the cleaning of breaks and gas tank. Maybe you can find a used head? There is a used head on ebay for 150$ looks great to me. Rocker arms brand new 104$ almost gone it says only three left. The piston and rings is 125 bucks. all on ebay. Complet rebuild piston kit is 152$ includes all gaskets piston o rings. I think you can do it for 405 $. with the coil it would be a little bit more. Around Oklahoma motorcyles go for 2 or 3 thousand dollars used.

Yea I was gonna say. Sucks that it was a valve. I was gonna say the decompress lever may have gone. They have to be maintained. They are able to take a beating lol. That thing won’t move the way u think. It’s not the rfv. That’s the one u need. But seems how that thing is fucked. I would replace it with the rfv head and piston. I don’t know the research on it. But I’m almost positive it’ll work. But they do make a 300 bore kit for the 250s. I plan to get one for mine. I have the rfv and that’s the reason I wanted it. I fully rebuilt my bike and made it a scrambler. It was well taken care of. It had every original part. I’ve never had to replace motor parts. But eventually I plan on the 300 kit. The four valve is a fucking animal
