My 91 250x had to be completely torn down and built cause the cam chain dropped down into the clutch Assembly and wrapped around the clutch and twisted it out of place. There was a massive hole in the cylinder sleeve from rust, bent pistons and no gaskets. Most stressful project ever cause i kept finding shit that was broken but it runs now and ive done alot of work to it for it to now go 86 on a downhill stretch and pop wheelies in 2nd. Keep it dude your gonna love it.

Hey Joe, not sure if anyone ever told you this but old bolts (especially going into aluminum) can really use a good smack with a hammer to shock them loose before you try turning them. On the fasteners that Honda uses that have a washer built-into the head it’s super easy to put a socket or socket and extension on there and just smack it with a hammer a couple times, they’ll for sure come out easier. This method works well for crusty carb bowl screws too! Hope this helps.👍🏼

I have a 1994 trx300ex and I'm currently working on it again because the bearing opposite of the cam gear is completely dead so now I'm on a hunt to find the last 2 ball bearings that likely fell into the crank/clutch. I found 8/10 balls but idk where I'll find the last two. I love seeing a 250x basically the same motor as the 300ex just small difference between them. Great video 2V!👍
@hardpackmoto3 жыл бұрын
Btw I drained the oil and didn't find the last two. The only reason i found the first 8 is because they were stuck in the oil underneath the valve cover 😂. Hey 2vintage I'd probably get a new head because its liable to fail again with jb weld.

JB weld will be fine, that's just the oil galley for the cam. The rockers are toast from not being oiled since it was running out the hole in the galley. The nut for that missing rocker tip is in the bottom of the case BTW. Probably sitting on top of the screen at the bottom of the motor on the clutch side. I'd pull the clutch side case and grab that nut before it sticks between the crank gear and driven gear.

Cams are cheap cheap for these atvs on eBay should be able to source that head out pretty cheap as well if you lived close to Kentucky I’d give you a head for it that just needs the valves lapped the 300ex has the same top end in case you run across the head off one the bottom ends are different with the 300ex having a longer crank rod and electric start but all top end parts are the same even the timing chain speaking of which I would go ahead and replace the timing chain it’s more than likely stretched the 300ex piston is the same as well and will interchange I own a beautiful 87 first year for the trx250x I’m about to do a wiseco top end and d.I.d silent cam chain in I think I’ll just bore it 0.040 over these engines can be bored 80 over making it a 288 big bore hell of a strong little motor and bulletproof as well I’ve been waiting for this video for a week joe lol soon as I spotted it in the background I was like hell yeah brother 🤙🏻🤙🏻excited for you to ride this beast.

I'd be searching for the aluminum piece that's missing and hiding somewhere in the engine waiting to do more damage as well as the valve adjuster lock nut which is missing. That cam lobe might have been ground down and is no longer good. Needs to be measured. If it's ground down past the hardened friction area of the lobe, the remaining soft metal will wear down very rapidly. Might be able to find a used head with the valve train in it. It's still worth repairing. Find that steel valve adjuster lock nut and the missing aluminum from the head and prevent any further damage.
