Makes me cringe everytime the rod hits the base mating surface. If you damage thar skinny mating surface it wont suck air properly though carb and will not go. Trust me i know because i ha2d a bike stolen with the top end off and they must've pushed it in gear and the rode hammered the ba2swe surface. I obviously got the bike back. As2sembled with my new parts i finally got and s2he wouldn't go untill i sm3a2red araldite in between the mating sufaces

It needs a new crank. Running it with that crank will cause more damage in the long run. The bigend bearings wont last long and once they go the piston will start slapping against the head. Rings are all rusted as well so that will damage the bore. A new crank. Set of bearing and rings is all it needs.
@glenncrockett4451
@glenncrockett4451 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah that thing sat outside for awhile, that wasn't carbon he was scraping off the crank it is rust, unless this bike had a family history it would cost to much to repair, part it out so somebody else can get a better bike going again. That rod bearing is done, you may get the engine started but without a good rebuild it won't last a wk, trust me. I have rebuilt and sold over 300 bikes most Vintage.

On most dirt bikes that don't have a dip stick you check the transmission oil by unscrewing a screw from the clutch side housing. It should barely run out when the engine is level. Usually the capacity is about 28 ounces.
@steves2241
@steves2241 11 ай бұрын
Not on 2 strokes that old, I had a 1976 Suzuki RM100 and it did not have a screw to check the oil on the clutch side. I would just stick a zip tie in there to check the oil. I also had a 1980 Suzuki PE250, and it did not have that screw either.

Piston doesn't even look like it's been run, not very many scratches on it other than the rust. Seems like it was rebuilt and parked for some reason. I would pull the motor, flip it over and drench that crank chamber in fluid to flush it out, reinstall everything and see if she runs! I had a 74 TS250, the enduro version of this brand and vintage. Ohhh, I remember those days. We moved to a rural area and a kid neighbor of mine got a 76 RM125. Just the coolest thing I ever saw in my life!!! That was the star of me getting hooked, and the 70's was a great time to get hooked on this sport. The factories were improving the bikes so much every year, it was like a race in itself, and the price did not go up much until the 1986 production rule, (which tripled the cost of a bike in 5 years). Even thought the 90's were good, the 1986 production rule was the start of the decline in MX. I bought 3 brand new bikes from 76-80 (76 Kawasaki KD25 $750, 78 YZ100 $800, 79 YZ125 bought new in 80 $850. making $1.00/hr part time at my dads little rural store/gas station. Lost of kids got into riding back then, and did not need parental support. Just permission.

The cylinder looks like it's had a new liner, the piston also looks new. Next time if you think water has got in drain the sump first, it's no good chucking oil or WD40 in there as it will float on the top of the water and do nothing. A good soak of diesel, clean the piston and a hone on the barrel, she'll run again.

Case reed induction and the remotes puts it at a late 70’s Rm250, I’d say probably a 77 or 78, so a B or a C. If you get it running and it’s setup well the power delivery when the reeds open will really makes it pull really well.

2vintage, dude that's a cool bike worthy of a restoration. though in my experience, some your best off parting out the machine. If not an easy profit soon becomes an endless money pit! I know this from an old Yamaha dt400mx scrapper I tidied up a while back. needless to say, I could of broken it for spares and made a nice profit, instead I choose to restore and made a major loss. my current project is a Honda MR175 Elsinore, its a very similar story to Dt400mx, though it is a far nicer machine ( I am still figuring out the best audience for the restoration channel ;) #retroresto

I had one in 1982! Right before they started with water cooled head's! Broke my back on it! I also had a PE 175 their version of an enduro back then!

It surprised me that you got it unlocked. It has no slack in the rod that is a good sign it might run. Maybe it was only out side a little while. the piston and cylinder look great so far. Hone it a tiny bit and see if the cylinder is pitted. I'm dying to see if the wall has pits. Kina looks rebuilt actually because the piston is new looking and the crank is pretty tight.

Those old 2 stroke Suzuki engines were bulletproof, I had 3 different Suzuki race bikes from 1976 to 1982 and never had an engine problem with any of them, a 1976 RM100 for a year, a 1980 PE250 for 2 years, and a 1982 RM465 for 8 years. Never had one engine problem with any of them, all I did was put gas in them and ride them, with a new top end once in a while.

@@steves2241 I had a 76 or 79 suzki TM 125 I was so much fun. I had a honda 100 and a yamha water cooled one the first years for water cooled. I have great memories riding those bikes. Even the honda 50 and yamaha 60 were a lot of fun. I would love to buy another one but they are really hard to find any used bikes in Oklahoma.

Block of wood ontop of the piston and a sledge hammer usually does it for me 😂😂

I am sure you know what your doing. I made a puller for getting stuck cylinders off. Piece of bar stock with slots and center bolt. Bar stock anchors to the head studs or bolts and center bolt pushes on the piston. Might save you a connecting rod or bearing some day
