This machine is worthy of a complete restoration, even if you can do it a little at a time. I'm willing to bet there are a lot of vintage scooter collectors out there that would love to add this to their collection & would be willing to pay good money for it.

When changing cables on this type of scooter body , always either tape the new cable to the old one , or tape something ( like string) to the old one before you pull through . At this stage , push wire up from below and use it to pull new cables through.

@@M.TTT. it´s not that expensive, and how much do you need, 6 foot? At least you can use it after for something else, to hang up parts for painting etc. I think it works very good, stiff enought to do not bend that easy and you can get it through by wiggeling it the most time. bending the tip 180 degree helps to not pierce something and get stuck.

You get the correct oil level by removing the small plate on the clutch cover with the two screws, fill it until it flows out of the bottom of the hole. Make sure you set the mixture screw so it runs slightly rich or you could get a seizure. The crank seals can be checked by blocking off the exhaust and inlet and pressurizing the crankcases, see how other scooter buffs do it.

Changing cable outers on Vespas is easy. You take the old inner out, then use a long piece of wire, double the length of an inner cable threaded through the new outer then you pull the old outer out and it is replaced by the new outer as you pull it out. New inner in, job done. Too late now though... 😢
@cleighton1605
@cleighton1605 Жыл бұрын
I was going to say the same thing. Or, tape a wire fish to the opposite end of the cable/sheathing you are pulling, then at least when you pick up a new cable, you have something you can tape it to for pulling the new cable through it's exact position.

Joe you can buy gasket material paper. In different thicknesses. Make your own gasket 75% of them are easy cuz you can stick them on the surface you want to make and slightly tap with the back end of a screw driver or roll it around the edge. Use a socket to cut the hole. Lay paper on something hard like a vise anvil or hard wood. Take a socket with the appropriate Outder diameter. Line up perfect and hit with a hammer. They make gasket punches just for this reason

Nice Job Mate, over here we call this a Scooter not a moped ! I ve had many Vespas and Lambrettas, even had a Durkopf ! Did not know that Ducati also made a production scooter ! Seems there model was swamped by the legendary Scooters of Piaggio and Innocenti ! It seems to have a lot in common with a Lambretta ! Nice Zippy little Scoot for sure ! Did you not see gaskets when you dismatled the cylinder and head ! Could be drawing oil into your cyclinder, not sure that black gunk you used is enough !

I've got a 77 XL350. It has all kinds of stuff to it. I had the valves redone. Man was that a pain. Just finding some shop to regrind and replace the slightly bent valves was tough. The tank needed sealing. But the one thing I don't have is the end of the exhaust. For a replacement carb I went to the experts, Sudco. They had exactly what I needed and the intake tube. If you are in need of the replacement info ask and I'll forward it to you

I dig your video's and the speed in which you get things to run. It wouldn't bother me one bit if you stretched a few of these builds into a restore video. If you were to completely tore that scooter down. Have the engine vapor blaster, the chassis blasted and repainted, the frame blasted, wow. Why not. There is no way what you do can be sustainable. Buying a new bike every day to have a video every day and not to mention the garage being filled with all of these projects. Do a bike complete restore on that little scooter. I thing that would be awesome. And, besides, you could get other guys in the fix. A vapor blaster and a paint guy, why not. Scott in Southern Oregon

Hi there. The engine certainly sounds like it's WORTH restoring. Just one piece of advice : it is extremely inadvisable to keep running it in first or second gears for too long as this runs the real risk of burning out the clutch - particularly at high revs. Thanks for reading this.

But 44mm. What brand or kind of gasket maker are you always using for the cylinder? It will be sweet after you blast it and paint it. With fitting rings, you need to adjust Gap at unworn part of cyl; basically bottom area as if you do it at worn section around top, the gap might be just right but when the ring goes to unworn part and is hot, it might be too tight and touch. Also you need to check side clearance of ring in the grove so its not too tight or loose as these were not likely the rings the Italians used for that piston? Excellent work on what you did, i just wanted to point out some extra hints so the job is done as good as it could be and not cause install problems once the engine is hot and parts expand..

I'd DIY A gear shifter for out metal and A different shifter arm that has the same splines for that shaft selector just cut it off with A cut off wheel and weld on A bar with two ends that are rounded for the front and back shifting mechanism part. Then weld both pieces together really good with your welder Joe it'll work just fine for it.

Just remember to bend the angle up on those ends and leave the middle straight. until it starts reaching the metal foot tab part right before that area on them. It's A simple fix for it. That's the kind it takes anyways. I'd just round those squared ends off of your squared pieces. On the top tip part of them is all on each end of them. With your grinder smooth and maybe paint it with top coat black.

Great job getting this running. Even finding chainsaw rings. Unlike the recent moped, which might not be worth the effort to restore, this Ducati could be something special. Good luck
