One little missing washer threw the fork and gear out of alignment. It’s pretty easy to do. That’s why you have to be diligent in keeping parts from disassembly all together. It’s the only way to avoid missing something. If nothing is ‘left over’, you should be fine.

I would look into using plasti gauge on the cam journals. Assuming that's a fresh build as you were told. That's a significant amount of wear for such a short amount of run time. May need a slightly thicker valve cover gasket. Nice work as usual.

I am not so sure I would emulate Joe's finger wiggle test on the bearings as a confirmation they were not damaged by the loss of gear teeth. If he took the time I suspect the "big pieces" of teeth weren't enough to fill in missing space on the gear. This means the gear teeth broke off, then got wedged into another spot while trans continued to turn. Eventually the chunks of teeth were ground down by some other parts. Those chunks are in the oil floating and running thru all the gears and bearings. There has got to be damage somewhere. So if your goal is to make this good as new, replace the bearings and any other part that is visually not perfect. Start by getting them spotlessly cleaned, get a magnifying glass and look really close for any signs of brinelling or pitting. It's alot of work to rebuild a motor and trans, don't ruin it clinching out on 50 dollars of bearings. It may be overkill, but all my experiences as a automotive engine and transmissions tech say good insurance. Especially if you have to warranty your work.

When you first show the piston at 24:03 I was surprised that the normal carbon buildup was missing opposite one of the valves and I wondered if the valve had been just kissing the piston when hot. Same can be said of one of the valves - too clean !!! You later said it was a HC piston but we don't know if anything had previously been skimmed which might reduce clearance - especially for a HC piston. Thinking of the poor hot starting. Just my 2 cents.

Personally I would have tested the shifting process with the clutch removed before proceeding. Another tip. on shaft removal, It's easy to first remove the shift fork rails and then the forks sliding them back on the rails they came off, then remove the drum and then pull both gear shafts out together taking special note 0f any shims or spacers on their ends. End float is important. Too much or none will bite you at some stage. Good to check before splitting cases.
