Thanks, Lottie! Last fall (2023) was the first time I gathered and dried goldenrod. I was surprised that the dried leaves made a pretty good herbal tea, surpassing dandelion root as my previous favorite. I have not yet tried the flowers or medicinal applications. I can try in olive oil, certainly. Thanks for sharing what is working for you.

Do you wash it first?

Often, depending on the harvesting conditions, I do not have to rinse the goldenrod plants for an external preparation. I will shake them off and let them sit out for a while so any insects can crawl away, and shake the dust off. But you could definitely give them a quick rinse in cold water and shake them out well, and proceed to let them dry. For tea and tinctures that are going to be taken internally, or herbs growing lower to the ground, I do rinse off the plants in a colander, roll in a towel and pat lightly. Or use a salad spinner to get as much moisture off as possible.
