To everyone who is saying Kitty has no right to get onto Eric about smoking because she does it to; Do y'all not know how cigarettes work, or have not seen the early seasons? Kitty is constentaly trying to quit cigarettes, but she has smoked for so long that she was dependent on them as a way to relax. She knows they are toxic for her and does not want her kids developing her dependace on them

Agreed. I couldn't blame her fully despite being ironic, due to the fact that she knows it's wrong and has trouble quitting. She realizes the effect it had on her and is simply preventing Eric to not be in the same situation as her.

People seemed to not get Red having Eric smoke the pack of cigarettes. It was a common practice if you caught your kids smoking back in the day. As that much nicotine in one go to a new smoker will cause you to feel completely nauseated I remember when I smoked 3 in a row at the age of 10. I was in the school toilet for over 45 minutes.

It was weird of the show to not explain why Red gave him such a punishment. It just made Red look horrible and I felt sick to my stomach when Red did that.

It is still grossly and completely abusive to forcibly poison your own child to be like "that TEACH you!" Also a good way to ensure his son forms the addiction for the habit and given how easily they aquired things Eric would be smoking nonstop.

@@chromeshellking I agree I wouldn’t do that with my kids. But it was a different time. We have learned and changed a lot in 40-50 years. You got to remember this was times where kids would get beat with broom handles. When I was a kid it was a smack on the back of the legs. Me with my kids do not lay a finger on them as a form of punishment of any kind. I believe there is no reason to do physical punishment to your child. Better ways of sorting out the problem. But with it being a different time. And parents were not as wise as they are now. It’s hard to judge them. I agree Red was wrong for making Eric smoke all them cigarettes as punishment’s. But in the 70S that was encouraged if you caught your child smoking. You make them smoke the pack in one sitting. And they won’t go back to them.

Took me two weeks to be able to handle 1/2 pack per day. My parents still smoke a pack or two per week. Until tobacco is banned people will continue to smoke

I love Red he knows Eric is a good kid and when Bob came over he had Eric's back. Eric isn't perfect and Red knows this so it made sense for him not to believe him. Also he does apologize for being wrong.

Probably already commented, but the whole idea of making your kid smoke a whole pack of cigarettes as punishment is because new smokers cant handle that much nicotine and it makes you feel very nauseated and dizzy. I remember my first cigarette, boy I got a head rush from hell and felt so nauseous. Of course I continued and got used to nicotine, thats how you get hooked in and to this day I still smoke, never been able to quit.
