I dont have a baby durmax but I have swapped over to Amsoil for all my oil/grease/ spray lube needs because I believe its atleast as good as other top tier oil products and the ease of obtaining it.... I love that I can be at work or anywhere and just place my order then have it show up about 3 days later instead of running around town looking for oil and filters.

Your Dad taught you right! Nice video - you're right, a 15-20 minute job but the stealership bills an hour and over 100 bucks. Rubber gloves and poke the bottom of your filter with a flat screwdriver and let it drain before removing - much smaller mess. Have you seen the PPE replacement oil pan and drain plug? I guess the OEM pan holds 1 quart of oil WITH the plug removed - crazy! What lift kit do you have? You could barely reach the dipstick - just f'n with you man lol Great video - I've never trusted those plastic ramps until I just saw you using them - thanks.

Nicely done video! Old guy here, most likely older than your dad. Good to hear he gave you tips on maintenance. I am in favor of prefilling a new filter with fresh oil before install. It is easy to do and reduces the time for oil pressure to come up. Is it a game changer? Maybe not, but one of those simple things that makes me feel better. I also have my oil analyzed at Blackstone. It gives you a lot of good info and shows where your engine is compared to others. Cost is $35 for the base testing and $45 for the test that includes oil life data. I also believe ramp use gives you a better oil drain. It allows for a more complete drain compared to on a vehicle left. Just my humble opinion.👍

As soon as you started wrenching, I thought I would add rubber gloves to the list of things needed! That oil just flowed fast from both places (filter and plug). You may get some feedback on the oil change intervals given that you use a full synthetic and only go 5k…but in the end if you sleep better because of it, nuts to the naysayers! That sure is a pretty truck!
@Academy_Farm2 ай бұрын
@@badgerlandturf Thanks! I would have worn gloves if it wasn't for the camera/tripod work. I regularly "waste" money on all kinds of things that make me sleep better. Lightest weight oil I've ever worked with; it does flow freely 🤣

The tolerances in the 3.0 are very tight. I've always changed mine at 5k or 20% on the monitor. It's cheaper than needing bearings replaced and the crank worked or replaced. IMO, the Amsoil isn't worth the $. The ACdelco is readily available now and has been proven to be within acceptable limits even at 7500mi or 0%. I just take mine to the dealer so I don't have to deal with the waste oil. But that's just me. To each their own. I also ignore the fuel filter monitor and just change it every 10k. Easy $35 DIY vs $150 at a dealer.

So I’ve been running the amsoil now on my 3.0 suburban lm2 for the last 3 intervals. I can say that it works just fine, however my lifters are significantly louder as you let off the gas and let the vehicle coast and come to a gradual stop. Idk if this is of concern but I’m going to swap to the Mobil 1 with dexos D and see if this makes a difference. I will also add that I have the Fumoto valve which makes oil changes a breeze
@Academy_FarmАй бұрын
I've heard several reports of these trucks getting "louder" as they rack up miles. Curious to learn how your experiment works out. I was in an out of a parking garage all week and think I would have noticed a lifter tick (but I'm only a few hundred miles in with Amsoil...)
@chrisgarcia9711Ай бұрын
@ I’ll be doing the the switch to mobil 1 within the next 2 weeks or so I’ll keep you posted on the difference if any. And yea I’m my first amsoil oil, lifters stayed the same it wasn’t until the 2nd interval that it was much louder. That’s also with the ppe larger oil filter
@chrisgarcia971120 күн бұрын
Update… just swapped the oil to Mobil 1 (Dexos-D) and instantly the engine feels smoother, slightly better mileage and way less knocking from the lifters. I’d say at this point that amsoil isn’t for this engine

The hex sides certainly aren't as deep as they could be, but I haven't noticed any hardness issues in the one time I've worked with it. Like most things, everything is over-comable if you're careful.

I’m about to buy a GMC AT4 and I’m deciding if I wanna go with the 3.0 or stick with the 5.3 or 6.2.. I’ve always had a 5.3 or 6.2. I believe I’m going with the baby duramax. Any advice?
@Academy_Farm14 күн бұрын
@Carolinaking22 i had the 5.3 for a decade. The 3.0 has been problem-free for the first 6K miles, has wild fuel efficiency, and no lack of power... I was also probably unnecessary worried about lifter issues with the gas engines, but no regrets so far!

@Academy_FarmАй бұрын
@@tylerhedlund3147 Awesome! You could always run into warranty issues for all kinds of reasons. My understanding is that if GM can prove engine failure due to oil used, they can refuse warranty service. But in that case, Amsoil offers their own engine warranty. But that's just my understanding....

I called Amsoil and asked about not having the Dexos D certification and I personally think they should have it regardless of their answer.
