3.0 Duramax is notorious for engine oil leaks. If yours is dripping in your driveway and you are curious what it could be before you head off to the dealer, this video is just for you. I get emails pretty much daily and it's tough to answer them, so I decided to start answering via video since it may be a question others have. mstrgoodwrench@gmail.com is where you can send yours and maybe I will make a video specific for you! www.demonworkshop.com www.duramaxnews.com Oil Pump Wet Belt: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqmqpmSmfq-YfdE

Excellent channel on the 3.0 liter diesel. I am thinking of buying one, let me ask you for all the 3.0 diesel trucks you have had would you buy another one? Thanks for your opinion

Thanks for the video Greg! This will be great to go to the shop with and see what they have to say about this massive oil leak. I can believe this has been the third time it has been replaced..... The order of replacement was seal only, seal only, main rear cover with seal factory placed. The worst of all was the main cover replacement where I have oil leaking so badly that it is dripping from the back bumper. The sad part is the first time, the leak actually wasn't that bad but it was still leaking so we went back in. It's been four months + now without a working truck due to scheduling issues and I'm just sad to not have my truck to drive.

Can you do a cost estimate for timing chain and belt replacement? My lm2 has 111k miles no leaks at all thankfully but its coming time for that belt and might as well get that updated timing chain (My lm2 is a 2020).
@DemonWorks3 күн бұрын
chains will likely be in the $8-12k range depending on dealer, you will do the belt at the same time. You may be better off looking into an extended warranty. Here is the belt video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mqmqpmSmfq-YfdE

I posted in one of your other videos that I had a engine plug leaking oil on my LM2 engine. It was covered by the warranty. Fortunately, I was 180 miles short of 36k. My question is would you recommend changing oil sooner in case some of the sealant got in the motor oil after the tech resealed the plug?
@JCunningham213 күн бұрын
just had my 22 in for the front plug leaking a couple weeks ago. . they warrantied it but for the front cover. looks like they put a new plug in though. Maybe they did both or pulled the plug and cleaned it because the plug was not on the invoice.
@DemonWorks3 күн бұрын
Probably cleaned it, that's a good tech, not all know about the plug.

My 2021 w/70k has been getting oil samples flagged by Blackstone for Copper & secondary Tin. Copper in last sample is up to 360ppm. Has also been in the shop 6 times @ 2 different GM dealers recently with massive def consumption and keeps going into limp mode with the dreaded service emissions system then a derate. Both shops can’t figure it out and they have an open ticket with the engineers in Michigan. About to unload this unreliable pile of 💩. With the copper & tin I’m suspecting a turbo bearing. What do you think? Have used Dex-D 0w-20 ea oil change. Heading to a 3rd GM dealership on Monday for round 7……

I know GM says the oil pump belt interval was changed from 150K to 200K from the two engines. But what did GM change to make it last longer? Almost sounds like they just increased the interval on paper, haven’t been able to find what they actually changed with this belt.
@DemonWorks2 күн бұрын
I did a video on that back when it was changed, one of my first videos owning the 2023 LZ0. there wasn't a design change, their testing determined it to be better than expected so they bumped the number up is what I heard.
@lukedeatley25202 күн бұрын
Cool, thanks for info I will check out your video. Do you know of they increased the 150k to 200k for the LM2 or just the LZ0?
@nahbro32408 сағат бұрын
@@lukedeatley2520both. Basicly they realised people were saying mehhh 150k milles truck due to the oil belt. So they changed the numbers to 200k for the lz0. But the lm2 will last as long.

I am in the market for a new truck before I retire & I feel this is the engine but I only want an extended cab. GM does not appear to make it anymore why is everything a 4 doors with a 6’-5” bed I would like an extended cab with a 8’ bed & this engine. The only company is Ford that makes an extended cab but that is very limited as well.
@DemonWorks3 күн бұрын
You want what GM calls the "double cab" but gm does not offer a 8" bed with the 1500 trucks.
@humongousdingus73822 күн бұрын
@ Thank you I appreciate your replay I am really leaning towards 3.0 L GM diesel 1500 series. I want to keep the truck as long as I can yet I see a few things you have upgraded that makes sense oil & trans pan replacement, cold air intake system, transmission thermostat & larger cooler, oil catch can. I feel they would extend the life of the vehicle tremendously so I can do a few myself yet others I would need to find a shop to perform them. Or would the truck last as long without them.

Tell tale sign on cover. "Made in China". Make me want to sell my 3.0 duramax after seeing that.

I included that on purpose. Don't look at your window sticker, that outlines what percentage of parts came from overseas.
