I rode my Scout 60 from BC to Utah and back last week, 3100 miles in 7 days. Stock seat, handlebars, pegs, grips, no windshield, no bags. Loved every mile of it and the bike performed flawlessly the entire way. Is it a touring rig? No. Is it fun enough that I'd rather cross the country on it than a bagger? Absolutely. I've put 10,000 miles on mine since January and there is no bike I'd rather be riding, truly awesome machine for the price.

Damn, nice! I couldn't do any more than 30 minutes on the stock seat and grips.

InvictvsNox Comes down to what you're used to riding I suppose. I only ever rode lightweight dual sports with little more than a 2x4 for a seat before the Scout, so the Scout is almost luxurious to me. It may not be a plush touring rig but it sure is nice having more than enough passing power to put yourself wherever you need to be in interstate traffic and then still have a quick and nimble bike to rip on when you get to the canyons.

I have a Scout 60 ('17) too, and towards the end of last fall I was kinda disillusioned by the Scout - just my personal issues. Come winter (I live in Minnesota) started to miss riding my scout like crazy😓. This spring ('18) I realized if you want fully enjoy the Scout you've gotta ride it for what it is - urban cruising. It's not designed to do state - state, although it is more than capable and many riders like yourself continue to do it. Only problem your body will take a beating. So I ride my everyday short one hour punchy rides my stock Scout 60 through rural roads and highways and it performs like a champ. It's legit...👊🏾🏍🤘🏾

Got my (17) Scout Sixty 10 weeks ago in February. Hit 2K miles on it last week. Not bad for a 67 yo codger. The AirHawk seat cushion I had on my Zuk fits it perfectly. I am semi retired, this bike makes me wish I could be fully retired. Kentucky has the best riding roads! It is indeed a fun bike. Enough weight and power to do anything you want, but so easy to hop on for local riding.

I got the latest springs installed for my 2017 model and upgraded oil for the front forks just recently, making the front suspension much harder, bringing it into line with the 2018 model, and the bike handles so much better now. so much happier going over the bumps and going into corners a little quicker, and not feeling like I'm going to bounce off the road.

The Scout came to the final cut, choice of two, when I was buying my 'swansong bike'. (61 years old, mental age 17, I know it's tragic!) I went for the Triumph Thruxton R. Why? Simply put, I'm an old Rocker and Triumph's pull on the heart strings was just too great. The Scout, what's not to love. Fantastic machine and in an ideal world, I'd have both. So if that was your choice, I'd be the first to raise a glass to you. Really enjoy your videos, long may they continue....... Best wishes from the UK.

Hey, that's an excellent choice you made. I've only had the pleasure of sitting on a Thruxton R and it felt like a beast. Maybe I'll come across one for parts at some point soon and I can outfit this Scout to really live up to its name and racing heritage. ;) Thanks for the kind words.

In my opinion you made the right choice Chris. I owned a Scout for 5 years and was glad to see the back of it this year. Thanks for the review. Just bought a Scout 60. Test rode both and for the price difference the 60 was great. Not all that much difference. Bought used from dealer. So came with a custom Corbin seat, stock bags and an Indian shield. Too much buffeting so changed to a Freedom shield. Now excellent. Don’t plan on any interstate rides but see no reason it wouldn’t be quite good at it. Especially with Corbin seat and Freedom shield. Have made a few rides of several hours with no problem at all, and I don’t know how you could get more bike for the price. Love it.

Ordered and 21 inch freedom and it was clearly better that the 24’ stock. But over 55-60 still got some buffeting. Exchanged for the 24” and total quiet. Very nice and I can still see over it. Their design does throw it air at lest 3” higher. And the looks doesn’t bother me at all. Great improvement and for under $200

This year I went from riding a Honda Shadow w/ a K&N air intake and cobra pipes to a 2016 Indian Scout with Trask Grenades... and HOLY $#!* the difference is undeniable. I liked your other video where you pointed out that the Scout maybe isn't the best beginner bike and totally agree. Obviously it depends on the rider, and people get used to what they learn on... but man it is easy to take for granted how much brute strength the Scout has. It is a beast. It's a lighter, sleeker frame than my Shadow. But it will eat that Shadow for lunch and ask for more. One of the coolest machines I've ever been lucky enough to ride. Agreed that the saddle is a little rough for long distances, but maybe I just have a candy @$$ :) Either way, that Scout is ridiculous. If you're thinking of getting it, you won't regret it. But do yourself a favor and don't drop over $10k on your first bike. Get something you can learn on and drop a couple times. It's gonna happen. Plan on it.

Agreed, the Indian Scout would make a fantastic drag bike. However not limited to dragging, as the Indian, with the right front suspension, handles the corners really well.

Polaris is very smart. They own Victory and Indian so the high tech low maintenance engine in the Victory was mirrored in the Indian and its a winner the scout is a water cooled version of the big dogs which is still a winner. The gear drive primary, counter balancing, one hole oil fill and simple oil drain plugs along with the advanced oil cooler keeps these bikes on the road and out of the shop unlike HD.

All I want is to own an Indian Scout. I had been saving for years to get back into riding but tragedy struck and my youngest daughter passed away suddenly and my savings were spent on a very sad funeral. It cost so much money to bury a loved one. I am struggling everyday to just get out of bed and face life without my daughter. She was my little girl, my friend and her death wiped me out emotionally and financially. I dream of a day when I can own a motorcycle again. I don’t want to whine I apologize but the only thing that would help me adjust to my new life would be to ride again. The Indian Scout is my dream bike but at this point I don’t see myself being able to own one. My daughter also left me with a little girl of 4 yrs old to raise as well. This poor kid lost her Dad in the Middle East 18 months before her Mom died and now she has me. I love her so much and she needs clothes, food etc.... so my dream of riding again is most likely not going to happen. I am happy and privileged to be able to take care of my granddaughter but man I just wish I could go for a ride again. I remember well how your spirit gets elevated when you ride. The wind against your body, the rumble under your seat it’s a feeling that you never forget. I’m so sorry , I’m whining on a public forum and just feeling a little blue today. I love your bike my friend you are so fortunate to have it. Your videos are great, you definitely have a bond with your Scout and that bond will keep you safe on the road. Thanks again, Kept those videos coming. I just subscribed. Peace ✌🏻 🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸 👣

Waveluth , I'm 60 years old! Still in good shape, and ride a built suzymoto 400 in Hawaii! I've had every kind of bike made from 1967 to this day!... Have a trailer parked 40 feet from 9 old Indian motorcycles(1905 to 1913) and a couple Harley's! ...and so what? It doesn't matter what kind or size bike you got! It doesn't even matter if it only runs " sometimes"?... After over 50 years ,and hundreds of thousands of miles..... motorcycles become like golf clubs!... I'm the guy who "never" responds to people out there on my phone?... And your not whining at all to me! I think you need some good sound advise! I also lost 4 of my kids...OK,so this is what you do!... Take a good look into your grand daughters eyes, and tell yourself I am going to see the day when she's on the back of your bike, sucking up some good miles on it with you!.. then go look in the mirror at yourself! My guess is you'll have a bike in no time! My guess is your the guy to do just that! Don't forget" it's the ride, and the company your with that matters most" not the bike!..I would do anything to be able to ride again with my kids again? But that will never happen!.. my now wife here on the big island, came equipped with a 18 year old niece, who was ditched by her mom,and she came to stay with us,,,,and in no time became a daughter to me,also on the back of my bike!..rite now I've got flowing lava in my backyard( for real), and in the end of days, when my card pops up? I can now rest in peace because of that niece of mine? Yea,i want a scout,a Henderson, moto guzzi etc. But the'09 super moto does the job, probably better than all of them! If I had nothing,i would borrow, beg to get a mini bike, just for the ride! ...you can do this! You may not be happy until you do! It did wonders for me!... After hearing your testimony I just had to share this! Happy in the flow,"aloha bruddah" and godspeed!!!!!!

Just test rode one today. I loved it except for the seat which is hard as a rock. But it really just made me want to compromise and buy a fast pulling Japanese bike at a fraction of the price. As far as I can tell one is only paying more for the absolutely killer look and the "made in America" tag. I also like the rumble of a Harley more. Still, it is a very, very good bike. If one has the money it's worth getting; if not, it would be difficult to regret passing it over in my opinion.

When are you going to add some Grenades or RCX 3" slip-ons to those pipes? Get some sound!😂 A couple of years ago, I test rode a HD 1200 and Scout (not the 60) on the same day. The Scout was better than the 1200. It had so much low-end torque! It just pulled and pulled. I had it close to 100 mph and it was still pulling hard. The Scout also sounded great because it was a trade-in for a Chieftain and the guy who'd had it added RCX 3" slip-ons. They sounded fantastic instead of anemic! The bike didn't have that unique HD sound, but it was damn close and kept that deep growl even if I held the throttle for 3-4 seconds. The hand and foot controls felt perfect for me. I only had 2 minuses on the bike: 1. The Scout had a lower center of gravity than my Kawasaki Vulcan 900 Custom. It took me about 15 minutes of slow maneuvering in a parking lot to get over the feeling that the bike was going to tip over. (Which was weird because the seat height on my Vulcan is only half an inch higher than the Scout.) 2. If I'd gotten the Scout, I wouldn't have liked the fuel capacity. My Vulcan has a 5.3 gallon tank. Still, the Indian Scout is one badass ride. I suppose my only nitpick is that I'd need to find a place to get it painted. Imagine how great than tan seat would look with a deep (but still bright) green paint job.)

Surprisingly, I put some $12 Grab Ons over the stock grips and they are very good. Comfortable and look OEM. Lot less work which was a bonus.

Urs Erbacher did something similar to what you're talking about on a Victory Octane which looks awesome imo. kzbin.info/www/bejne/aamWlXWnqLOsjMU

Give the Triumph T120/100 or Street Twin a spin too. Maybe the R NineT...Honda CB1100? Compare them to your badass Scout.

Oh man, I'd try an R Nine T if I weren't so afraid I made the wrong choice lmao. It was one of the bikes I was considering, but the lower horsepower and prohibitive price tag kept me away. The Street twin was the same deal for me too, but it was more affordable. There's so many out there I wanna try. I need to get back in that game.

When I saw the Scout, that was the first time I had any thought about riding a motorcycle. Since then, I’ve been living vicariously through you and a few others on KZbin, learning about bikes. The more I’ve watched, the more I’ve gotten into that retro style...with the long seat and stuff. Still love the Scout though.

I have my scout bobber handle bars if you wanna buy them off me lol
@InvictvsNox6 жыл бұрын
I've actually been looking at those. Have you tried the normal Scout's stock bars? How different are they?

stop switch camera's so much! Otherwise good video.

Haha, I'm new to the whole double-cam thing so I'm still learning. Which view did you prefer? Thanks for the constructive criticism.

I prefer looking at the scenery, should only really switch back when you're trying to make a point or bringing up a new topic. Get's a little jarring when you cut back and forth a lot.

Yeah, that's the problem I was facing. In this kind of vlogging format, the time spent not talking is typically cut to the bare minimum so as to keep the video length down. But I agree with you, I'd like to keep it less frantic in the future. Thanks for your input!
