Boy if that stuff could talk I imagine hearing of Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners, Wedding receptions and funeral meals, birthdays, engagement dinners, prepping for 4th of July picnics....all kinds of stuuff. 10:16 OMG...I used to cook on one of those type of stoves except mine had a shelf across the top. I loved the cook fire on the side for super slow cooking and the shelf for proofing bread yeast. Also gas is a lot easier to bake with and for quick cooking like fried eggs. This will look amazing restored. 5:45 The cabinet with the white enamel top and flour bin with flour sifter built in...has a pull out sliding table/shelf that helped with cooking. Yes, used one of these too but it was in rough shape. Clean but rough.

We had an older version of a similar looking stove at our camp - cottage probably to you (not by that manufacturer though). It had an over head storage area. Was originally an cast iron wood stove that was converted to burn fuel oil. That fire box took a quarter of the oven, the oven portion took about half the space and then the last quarter was a water reservoir that had to be filled up all the time when the stove’s fire box was on. The stove acted as our furnace in the winter. It was a very effective heating unit! When ever it was lit, the grate over the fire always had a faint orange glow! We finally had to junk it when my Dad could no longer keep the fire box intact enough to use. He re-packed the inside of the fire box every year with new bricks but eventually rust overtook what ever my dad did and it just wasn’t safe anymore. It’s an long ago memory now, almost 50 years ago.

The cabinet is referred to as a Hoosier, originally made as a baking station (flour sifter) by the Hoosier Co. that could be easily rolled out of the way once your cookies and biscuits were done. Later, companies such as Kitchenaide came along, but they still are referred to as Hoosier cabinets. Hoosiers are obviously worth more. I have one with a flour sifter. They typically go for about $600.
@WhatTheHales5 жыл бұрын

The quilting machine, if it's working, should be a great machine. I believe that model Singer was all-metal -- no plastic gears, which makes it much more reliable. I'm 74 years old and I make quilts! I'm a rank amateur, but I still make quilts!

I keep looking for a Hoosier Cabinet in good shape. Some of them still have the charts ,(4qt=1 gallon, etc), and glass canisters and spice containers in them. The metal rails are so the enamel top can slide out for a bigger top. They go on the sides at the back. Most of them have a metal lined drawer at the bottom for sugar or flour. Some of them have 2 metal dispensers up top, 1 for flour 1 for sugar. Some have a roll top like a desk. My mom's friend had a white one with red trim when I was a kid. Of course I just thought it was an old cabinet and wasn't interested back then. I Haven't found one yet. Great stove! There is a place in Georgia that makes them look brand new. That Singer looks like the one I bought in 1979. Cast iron, not plastic. Still works fine to this day. That unit was a great deal!!!
