excellent explaining of what and why you do things, will be a big help to many people, I know you don'yt think you are very good at explaining things but you really are very good at teaching this craft, one thing I do have to say for beginners, forge your bevels in but not overly so as you will leave hammer marks and then finish with a hand file, that way you will gain a better understanding of what you are doing and why then when you do hit a grinder you will have a better idea of what works and why

Thank you, Andy! Very good point. Forging in bevels helps a ton. Having bevels already established helps a great deal with grinding.

I like to coat the blade in Layout fluid between grits as i can see when the scratches are gone. but i also like to grind as i forget to take advantage of the wait for 30 seconds to 1 minute it takes for a blade to get back to forging temperature and have my grinder behind near my anvil and forge to music or audiobook so i can time it somewhat so i dont overheat my steel in the forge and i run a propane forge...i would never do that in a charcoal/coal forge as that would melt the steel and i did it the first time i ever forged something as i started with forging stuff over stock removal.
