$3.5M Gordon Murray T50 LOUD V12 SOUNDS in London!

It was pretty special to see another Gordon Murray Automotive T50 in London this weekend, with a striking blue paint finish. As you can hear, the Cosworth V12 that revs to a staggering 11,500 RPM sounds fantastic on start-up and acceleration. What a special car to spot in Mayfair, and the second I have seen in the city so far.

The great thing is that it is little, this is a car you can thrash down a British B road without worrying too much what is coming the other way. A lot of supercars nowadays are so wide. And he still got 3 seats in it.

It's actually the same shape as the Mclaren F1 lights...F1 only has the top part covered and painted to same color as the car. Maybe T.50 would look better too, but i don't mind it's still a pretty car :)

Pretty quiet exterior, like a vintage NSX. Low beltline makes for excellent visibility. Front reminds me of a Ferrari 313, Lola T70, Detomaso Vallelunga, except all the cooling inlets are hidden unless you know where to look. An older form of aero, like a Supermarine Spitfire, curved, vs angular and piercing like a Super Hornet or Starfighter. Handy size, a supercar doesn't need to have the width and weight of a box Caprice longroof. I can accept the rear end, a sacrifice of style for speed and other race car abilities. Gordon Murray constantly says he's not interested in top speed or 0-60, but I think that's complete BS. I think it's more that he's afraid to tarnish his reputation if he tried to go for those records and fail.

The McLaren F1 is possibly the greatest car of the 20th century. It was maybe 10 to 15 years ahead of its time. But that still would mean that in terms of cutting-edge technology, it's already decades out of date. And it's not exactly a mystery even for non-car designers like us. This already has more HP, which Gordon could have easily demanded more of if he really was bent on beating the McLaren F1's records. The F1's 620 odd horsepower is just around what's standard now even for just fast family saloons. It's already lighter. It has far better tires. The only other major thing it possibly needs is longer gears. But that takes away from the stated design goal of this being the best driver's car Gordon can possibly design.

A sensational piece of engineering, no doubt about it. How...ever... I always wonder about these super expensive, super optimized cars... who does ever drive them like should should be driven? They all end up in some museum, or exhibition, just sitting there, acting like a 1:1 scale resin model. They'll just never do what they're supposed to do: burn rubber and gas on a racetrack! They never compete, because they don't fit any rules, their owners rarely race them even alone on a racetrack, they rarely get driven to the limit, for fear of crashing, so they have a pretty sad fate in terms of their touted purpose. They are almost never more than a subject for photos and selfies. So yeah, a T50 doing 30mph on a busy street of London... That's the most common picture we'll ever gonna get about this car.

Technical excellence aside, that is a pretty vanilla looking super car. Especially from the front and sides. In fact, on the track it looks crap in comparison to most. In my humble car enthusiasts opinion.

Oh dear. This looks absolutely ridiculous from the rear. Given the number of pot holes in London I very much doubt the fan is going to be achieving very much. I guess most will end up in the Middle East and the sand will bugger the whole system up anyway. Sometimes less is more.

@@stevebarnett5048Yeah they actually do matter a lot, things like powerband, steering system, transmission, weight, weight balance, COG, suspension design, visibility, seating position, chassis rigidity etc etc etc. How fun a car is going to be drive isn’t secret voodoo magic. Once you know enough about cars you start to understand what makes it fun. This car is basically designed from the ground up with unlimited budget to be the absolute ultimate drivers car. It is a completely different design from your run of the mill hyper car chasing lap times, real estate on teenagers walls, and pensioners that don’t understand anything about cars but drive what they think looks cool. I daily drive a wrangler rubicon 4xe. I have an e30 325i in my garage.

The late great James Hunt had the best idea after he left racing, which was he had more fun driving his Austin A35 van around a sharp corner at 30mph than any supercar at 60mph. Real drivers go for a challenge, not needing every element of spec to make them safe and fast drivers. Most people who will buy the T50 will also be the worst drivers on the planet, but with a self image that says otherwise.
