I agree lack of engine sound is an emotional damper but I think there's ways to enhance the whines of the electric motor to compensate, also think that apart from sound electric cars offer far superior throttle and motor response. Handling is also on a different level. Weight is somewhat of an issue but I doubt it is in these carbon hypercars with relatively small batteries.
@TurnStyleGames3 жыл бұрын
@@randomytname8005 No electric motor whine is ever going to sound "good". You'll never hear an electric car zipping through a forest from miles away, with crackling gear changes and popping exhaust, etc. Outside of poor range/awful charging options...electric cars are entirely competent. But competency has nothing to do with an emotional driving experience. In fact the quirky, spastic, interesting cars are the most memorable ones. I can guarantee you that a proper driver zipping around in a base line Miata (with its lack of grip/power) is having more fun than the super technically proficient electric car...which is why electric cars don't register with a lot of people.
@wolfgangbarrio50433 жыл бұрын
@@randomytname8005 thats not going to work. Think of it like this. I had an RC car as a kid as everyone else, a Tamiya one, modded, and even tho it was just as fast as a gasoline one i could afford, it wasn't as exciting. Electric cars are more like devices, than really 'machines' and far from 'masterpieces of engineering'. Thats what makes them less appealing from a drivers view. People denying that have no sense for engineering. The engine and exhaust noise is incredibly important for the experience, and electric motors will never sound appealing. Their advantages make them ideal daily drivers, however, they will never move the soul and make your hair stand up like a proper ICE.

What will happen is what Christian Koenigsegg stated few years ago, super cars will follow the same trend of luxury watches.... Sure, a digital Casio will keep better time, simpler to work on and will have more features than a Rolex, but for some people, they want something mechanical, emotional, complex in a way you know it was done out of passion for inner workings and mechanical engineering. Same for these hypercars, and although the trend already started few years ago with the million dollars cars that are limited to 120 units or whatever, the T.50 will start a definitely split in the market, with the more common cars going to electric (the Casios), and the bespoke super/hypercars continuing with gas engines, and maybe going back to older, proven tech (the Rolexes, Omegas, TAG's). The only question i have is... we saw lately once super exclusive brands like Lamborghini, Ferrari, Aston, Bentley, and to some degree of exclusiveness, Porsche, going more and more for sales numbers and creating products that appeal more the mass market.... And by doing so, will those brands want to continue that path and turn to full electric in order to sell more and more? Or will they take a step back, assume that chasing higher and higher numbers is just pointless and go back to their origins and strive for a more emotional and engaging driving? Or will themselves split into two, and just have both, and dilute their market and heritage identity?

And you have too keep in mind, even though EU is very restrictive, they won't cut cash cows in a will like that, there are still lobbies around such brands... Low volume manufacturers have other rules applied to them, and if the fuel they will use is carbon neutral, or as close as it can be (ethanol, for example), then the law will be changed in favor for them. I mean, you already have certain exemptions with classic cars, (taxes, insurance, etc) because everybody knows they aren't just driven as everyday car, like a Golf for example. So, the environmental impact, if we are talking about CO2, is easily displaced. Same applies to current supercars, even though most of them are now more "daily" driven friendly. We are reaching stupid levels of performance. I've recently experienced a Porsche 992 Carrera S flatout in a mountain road, and it was plenty fast. It covers ground quicker than a C7 Z06 that was my previous benchmark. In no real circumstance, the Z06 is faster than the 992. It just isn't, despite having 200hp more. While all these new Hypercars are extremely impressive machines, they are more of status totems than drivers cars... Wonder when it all started going too far. Probably with the Bugatti Veyron and the Koenigsegg CCX.
@PS911954 жыл бұрын
Veyron might be a good contender. CCX is still a car that is more about a raw experience than outright numbers imo. I think the real source of the issue might be that more "normal" cars started to define themselves purely by numbers and therefore left the competition chase them So it might be the R35 and the 12C, and to some extent the Tesla Model S, that have caused the escalation of the stupid race for laptimes and 0-60 times
@streamnoremorse4 жыл бұрын
No. First was F40. No one driving in real life. So another question? What is maximum car you can drive everyday like driving car and not store in garage? I think it GT2RS. I see many videos in youtube when people drive that. Maybe GT3RS would fit more. Other car that costs more are just harage cars or as you said totems.
@mjwrapscustoms93594 жыл бұрын
@@PS91195 *EDIT: You are right! The R35, 12c, and Teslas fueled this trend to make numbers the most important factor in usable cars. The Hypercars or whatever anyone wants to call them are more of a showcase of what can be done from an engineering standpoint. That hasn´t always been the case, the F40, arguably the first Hypercar... Was the ultimate driving machine for a long time. I was about to say that progress isn´t always for the better BUT... I´ve just realized that we have a Cayman GT4 or a Ferrari 458 that offer as great of a drive, if not better than the F40 and they don´t cost millions! LOL

There's a 40 some minute video on here from near end of its prototyping days and Gordon himself talks about his decisions and why they were made for the car. It all boils down to driver experience. I believe at some point someone in the press asked him the stop speed and he responded "I don't care." All these expensive as hell cars want to sell track times and I think us regular jackoffs aren't impressed by it, but the T.50 strikes at the core of any car lover with millions of dollars or not. @Valkyrie 007 No but it will do 0-100mph in 7.5 seconds. It's a whole different level of engineering.
@MrGenius23024 жыл бұрын
@Valkyrie 007 Yes but the T50 is a road car. The Valkyrie is pretty much just made for the track. The T50 might be able to hit 230-250mph as the F1 could do 215mph or somewhere around that. The T50 is more usable and will be very quick. 0-60 in 3.5 seconds or faster.
@MrGenius23024 жыл бұрын
@Valkyrie 007 Sure but it's not only about speed. The T50 has luggage space. Would be better if the gear stick was on the left though.
@MrGenius23024 жыл бұрын
@Valkyrie 007 True. Don't know why Murray puts it on the right. They will sell either way as limited cars so doesn't need to appeal to the American market. We are talking about two completely different types of automobiles. Both are very good but I'd rather have the T50 myself. All cars are rubbish. They should be run on water and we should be driving kindly. No need for so much transport if Humans lived correctly. That's my philosophy.

Fast forward 2 years and Chris Harris has driven his first Valkyrie around a track and Gordon has signed off on the T.50 into production. Chris Harris’s drive in the Valkyrie makes the car look mentally quick around a track; especially for the AMR Pro. The biggest news since then, to me, is the T.50 weighing less than 900 KG and produce nearly 1,500 kg of downforce which is ludicrous. Think of it this way: the car that the engeneer behind it says, “I don’t care how fast it is or how quick it is around a track” has produced a car that had nearly the same horsepower, only 80% the weight and near DOUBLE the downforce of a McLaren Senna… Let that sink in. As radical as the Valkyrie AMR Pro seems around a track, I think we may just see competitive lap times from the GMA T.50s Nikki Lauda…

The thing that gets me with the T50s is for all the headline figures they still reduced the downforce from what it could theoretically have been to keep it accessible to their customers. Most car companies would have chased the headline figures for the... umm, well, headlines. It's almost as if - and I know this is a crazy thought utterly unfounded in reality - most of these uber-expensive track focused hypercars are bought for posing / 'investment' reasons while GMA's customer base is interested in putting at least a few miles on the wheels. Though I did love one interview about T50s where they were talking about it being a real shame the hypercar class for endurance racing was set up not to let these sorts of beasts in and Gordon pointed out with an almost completely straight face that T50s would need almost 200kg of ballast bolted on to meet minimum weight limits. Could have been the first car to compete with a mandatory passenger....

I remember when the Porsche 918 Spyder came out. Everyone was poo-pooing it in favor of the La Ferrari. It was expected. The Porsche was all businesses. Sedate and purposeful. The Ferrari was flashy and pontificated its superiority. History repeats itself. The Valkyrie will be the flash. The T.50 will be the business. The T.50 will come out on top. There will always be faster cars but perfection is very rare.

Brilliant answers from Chris Harris. I agree. If you can afford one of them, why not get both? Daily driver: the GM T50. The ultimate track car: the Valkyrie.

t50 will be the sort of car that a normal person can enjoy at any speed. The Valkyrie is a track weapon meant to blow the users mind but will probably not be as enjoyable on the street.

Sure the T50 is cheap relative to the F1, but they're making so few that I suspect that it's destined to just sit in a collection not being driven.
