I've seen this similar circuit in other videos. The weakness of this circuit, both led's light aren't bright enough as an indicator for 3.7v battery. And using different size of leds or using the clear led type, will change the value of low voltage, even using same color (red and green). I've done the experiments to make the led brighter as indicator but precisely state the low voltage value that I want. And the red led starts on at 3.3v as the low voltage. And at 4.2V, the green led lights brighter. So, it can be used with the general powerbank charging modul which is off at 3.1v because the over-discharge protection feature. Declare the low voltage for 3.7v battery is quite tricky than using this circuit for 9v or 12v battery. So that, this simple circuit is playable. Just understand how the circuit work first.

Nice job. Simple circuit. Al though the voltage levels for lithium batteries is 3.7v low (considered dead) and 4.2v high (or fully charged). Commonly battries are labeled with there low or dead voltage. Like a car battery (sla) 12v, technically 11.5v is the low voltage and fully charged is 13.5 to 14.5 volts. execpt for ni-mh, ni-cd and alkaline. There labled voltage is full capacity like a AA. 1.5v

For those of you requesting a 12 volt version. If you understand how this one works, making a 12 volt version would be a piece of cake. If you look at the two LEDs, they both are 3 volt versions (voltage drop across them). Meaning when voltage is applied to the circuit, if the voltage is higher then 3.6 ~ 3.7 volts, the transistor is turned on and the green LED will light. And that is because when the transistor is turned on, it effectively shorts out the Red LED to ground via the Collector Emitter. Once the voltage drops below the 3.6 ~ 3.7 volt range, the transistor is turned off and the voltage then flows through the Red LED because the voltage needed to light the Green LED with the series diode would be below their forward voltage drops added together. It is the combination of LED voltage drops plus the 1N4007 forward voltage drop that allows the circuit function that way. ALL the resistors are current limiting, so that either LED doesn't burn out from the excessive current flow across them. Now make your circuits!

I have a project that I would like to finish, it is about 2 batteries (18650), mounted in series with its corresponding BMS, charged at 7.4v. , I have a charger that gives me approx. 9v. (which I think would be ideal), but unfortunately I am missing an indicator circuit led me to accuse myself when the battery is 100% charged, would you have any solution to my problem? ********** Liz Mitchel and Odio_Station Official are both incorrect. ********** 3.7 Volts is the "nominal" voltage for an 18650 lithium ion cell. (Although some 18650's specify 3.6 Volts as nominal.) If you carefully look at the discharge curve, you will see that 3.7 Volts is very close to 50% SOC (State of Charge). I don't know why Liz says 20%??? Or why Odio says 96%??? That doesn't match the manufacturers' specification sheets. The correct information is 3.7 Volts = 50% SOC. (with some 18650's specifying 3.6 Volts instead of 3.7 Volts)

Using a method where the human has to interpret whether or not the LED is at "full" brightness is not ideal. Too easy to make mistake. Needs a definite threshold with LED either ON or OFF...no "in betweens".
