Icon tools are overpriced now, you’re paying to cover the excessive warranty claims for other people that abuse Icon tools.

That Snap On in nice! I have the swivel head Carlyle ratchets, 3/8 & 1/4 inch drive. Both are also 100 teeth. Both also have long handles. They are Awesome my friend. 😎

Roto head ratchets appear to be the exclusive domain of Taiwanese tool factories, and the quality is much better than Chinese tools. The only thing that i would say that SO has over the Made in Taiwan roto heads, for most wrench pullers, is the additional length. I own a couple of Olsa roto heads and the build quality is amazing, right down to cosmetic appearance and the chrome finish...if that matters to you. Unfortunately Olsa doesn't have comfort grip handles, making using the ratchet like a nut driver futile.

The Tekton and the Pittsburgh Pro swivel heads are the exact same units with the only difference being the color of the handles. Considering you can use the $5 off any Pittsburgh Pro ratchet coupon that’s floating around online, you can get the entire 1/4, 3/8 and 1/2 set for under $40. All things considered, the Carlyle’s are my favorite but for the price the Pittsburgh Pros are an excellent buy.

Can u open up the tekton? The Pittsburgh pro cannot be opened to oil. I’m looking to get one. Leaving toward olsa but tektons a bit cheaper.. at least for the 1/4,3/8,1/2 as a set. Based on Amazon, The olsa swivel heads absolutely need to be oiled as they all seem to arrive dry

Snap on tools last a long time. Bought most of mine in 2006 and 2007. Still use them as a tech every day. I have the 1/4 version of the snap on except it has the hard handle not the soft one. I keep the gear lubed with some ATF every now and then because this style is not sealed like the pear head ones are.

I have the Mac XR100SPA roto head 3/8 and it’s nothing short of excellent. Very smooth and low backdrag. Easily snap on level

Dude, you can control the tightness of the ratchet with the bolt on the side of the ratchet. Also, I doubt there is a big difference in strength capacity between all those ratchets. You can buy a Tekton, Olsa or Icon for a fraction of the price of a Snap On and all of them come with lifetime warranties. Lastly, I'm not a HF guy but the reason you don't buy Icon is because you're a fanboy. Maybe if you take care of your tools and don't leave them laying around then run them over with the car you won't break your tools.

Maybe I am fanboy for supporting american made product made by American workers who happens to give me a student discount on most of my snapon tools.

@@Tyronetrinity yup, the tax payer is paying for the snap off tools. By the way i restore and refurbish all manner of tools and there's not a nickels worth of difference between any of those roto ratchets.

Pricing check on the two Harbor Freight ratchets... The Icon is actually ~$40, it's ~$17 for the Pitsburg Pro...

Following Murphy's Law Snapon won't replace your tool. I've had tools Snapon wouldn't replace that were supposed to be lifetime warranty.

Hey it would help us out alot if your sound matched the video. How are we supposed to know which one is sounding smoother and what not. Also that icon is like 45$ not 20, I bought mine about a year ago at Hf, it's not near as smooth as I'd like, Its my first swivle head and i love that part of it. I'm curious if the quality control is uniform on all of them. There sealed in a box at the store so you cant check them out till you buy those icon ratchets. Mine just dont sound like I feel it should and back drag is Alot more then I'd like(I have smoother 50yr old sk ratchets). I've even took it apart and re oiled it, doesnt change a thing, hasn't got any smoother after a year of use either..even hooked it up to a drill and put some miles on it lol.😄

I just searched Tekton's site for swivel head ratchets...it appears they are not offering this ratchet anymore. I wonder if their choice to use Cr-Mo has anything to do with it...although it may simply be due to the Coof shortage??? Cr-Mo has stronger impact resistance, which is ideal if you want your ratchet to do double duty as a hammer. There is a good reason why non-impact hand tools are made almost exclusively using Chrome Vanadium steels.

I’ve had Snap on & Matco and from first hand experience the Snap on is way nicer but the Matco is almost twice as strong I’ve broke the Snap on and on that same bolt the Matco broke it lose like nothing with way more force than the Snap on could handle almost 2 times It was a rusty manifold bolt

Most Gearwrench stuff is being made in China, and the quality reflects that. Roto head ratchets, on the other hand appear to be the exclusive domain of Taiwanese tool factories, and the quality is much better as a result.
