Great video on water pump removal. For everyone complaining about Dex Cool, don't leave it in there for 5 years & or 150k miles. If you change it sooner, you will be fine. You can easily check the acidity of the antifreeze with a volt meter. Many videos cover that subject here on KZbin

“Little tricky” to get the power steering pump bolts back in is the understatement of the year. Literally takes four hands and a few hours of cursing and the urge to commit mass murder due to the anger it creates. 🙈

Great....I look forward to it! Especially, since the whole job so far has taken 2 of us (one an excellent lifelong mechanic) 3 days to do the job considering all the other little "tricky" things nobody told us about. This is NOT a quick and easy water pump. We have a 97 Lesabre. Nobody says how to get out that bottom 3/8 bolt you cannot see--even with little hands. (Get a ratchet box wrench if you can slip your hand in the tiny space). Other tricky issues: - replacing the serpentine. You have to either disconnect the motor mount or remove the lower stud behind the front wheel. The nut (use deep socket 18mm) holding it may require Hercules to loosen it, however. Then you have to reverse torque the stud. - make sure you have all the tools (good strong impact wrench helps) including some you don't think you need, like maybe a hammer. 🤪

The 92-94 Buick LeSabre has a 3800 Series I engine, which has a hidden surprise. I've owned a 94 LeSabre, since new and it now has 179k miles on it. Despite the 3800 Series I being extremely reliable, the 92-94 LeSabres were designed with the right motor mount bracket being bolted to the engine right on top of the water pump. Also, to removed this bracket, I had to jack-up my car ~6 to 7 inches and wrestle with this bracket to get it out of the car, this due to very limited space between the engine & body. I have now replaced this water pump in this car twice over the past 26 years and all I can say is it is absolutely awful design on GM's part.

I will also be replacing those plastic elbows with metal ones, as that's where most of my leak is actually coming from. @@NoNonsenseKnowHow I was at the same mechanic and this happened. I my car to the mechanics because the temperature goes high. So they change the water pump and Thermostat and also change the belt. The car was fixed but next day I heard a noise from the engine. I bring my car to the mechanics again and they said is the belt tentioner. I think they damage that when they put the belt. So now they said to fixed will me cost $150. What you think? They damage the part or just want to do the labor because will be a new job?

@@rodlrfilmmakercreator1460 again, it's really hard to speculate without seeing the vehicle. I've seen everything under the sun happen at my work. A lot of times people think it's the mechanics fault and it's not.

Armed with this video, you can take it apart yourself and probably fix the noise. That's one of the reasons I became a mechanic, I didn't trust other people working on my vehicle

I just replace this water pump on my 05 Buick LaCrosse 3.8 . Not sure what happened but the new pump is leaking from the gasket area where it meets the engine block. Did I intsall it wrong ? Maybe defective part?

Probably installed it wrong or it's the wrong part. Sorry to hear that it's leaking again.

i've a 95 Riviera series 1......i took out the 4 8mm bolts from the coolant pump pulley and it will not come away from the coolant pump face plate/spindle.....it it pressed on? there is quite a bit of rust on the face plate area or is it just rusted on....i don't want to damage anything trying to pry it off
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 3 жыл бұрын
No it's not a press-fit or anything. It probably just has some Rust behind it. I would spray it with rust penetrant and lightly tap on it with a small Hammer to help the penetrant work its way in

Definitely possible to bend the pulley if you pry it off

how much would this job cost? i have a 99 lumina ltz with the same motor. it never overheats. soon as the temp needle hits the middle, it starts to go back down.but i smell a lil bit of coolant after a drive. the low coolant light has been tweaking for 3 days. i checked and the proper amount of coolant was there. it only has 87k. i subbed to your channel as well.

Honestly I'm not sure, because I don't get involved with the pricing at my work at all. Sorry I couldn't be of more help. And thank you so much for the subscribe! It's not a difficult job at all and with some basic tools you can get this job done no problem! Let me know how you make out and thanks again

That does not sound like a WP issue. Nevertheless... It's impossible to accurately diagnose this on a youtube comment post. Take it to a reputable shop and get a proper diag and repair.

No need to dismount the PS pump! There are holes in the PS pump pulley that you pass the socket extension thru to access that one WP bolt.
@NoNonsenseKnowHow
@NoNonsenseKnowHow 5 жыл бұрын
Maybe on yours. But not on this one. When you back the bolt out without removing the power steering pump, it runs right into the ribbed belt portion of the pulley
