This is one of my favorite clips in the entire series. Not only is the side plot with Deimos very intriguing as a whole, but this exact part is such a creative (and cruel) experience to put him through, and this short shows what might be the most nuanced emotion any of the characters have expressed in the series. The music fits the mood extremely well, but it's especially amazing how much the little gestures can communicate on a sprite with no face at all, like Deimos reaching out with his hand and then pulling it back in concerned hesitation, and the rage he attacks the enemy with after having seen them kill "Sanford" in an earlier reality, and his scared little jump... but I think the part that is the most telling of their bond is the way he points at "Sanford" and then puts his hands up even though he looks all corrupted and aggressive and frankly shouldn't even exist - you can imagine Deimos expressing his concern and then telling him to calm down, that it's just him. Even after that, he just keeps backing up slowly without any intention of attacking him, and the moment "Sanford" stands still, Deimos starts to hesitantly approach him again. I like Deimos as a character to begin with, but even if not for his own sake, I hope these two will be able to continue their adventure together because their bond just adds so much to such a violent story.

i think it's different. When Deimos and Sandford got separated in episode 9, Deimos died without knowing what happened to Sanford, he has no idea if the other engineer got him or not and he has no way of warning him since he is dead. Just like with Deimos' death, what stopped him from saving fake Sanford the first time around was his low reaction time. In ROMP.FLA, its not canon, but it shows Deimos make up for not being prepared to shoot the enemies by just following Sanford's lead So when Deimos is alone, the series seems to exploit his weakness when Deimos doesnt have anyone to trust that he can go off of to make up for his slow reaction.
