Many of your problems I get correct by a completely different path. (3 1/2 ) / (2 1/3) Squared = (7/2) / (7/3) Squared = (21/6) / (14/6) Squared = (21/6) * (6/14) Squared = (21 / 14) Squared = 1.5 Squared = 2.25 P.S. I am 78 years old… Thank you for the lessons. I am also John with a math BD of 01/23/45

Before the video starts then.. (7/2)^2 divided by (7/3)^2 =… 49/4 divided by 49/9 =… Invert last one and multiply = 49/4 x 9/49. 49 on each side will cancel out, So the answer is 9/4 or 2 1/4 or (3/2)^2

Greetings. The answer is 9/4 =2 1/4. The first part of the expression is 49/4 and the second part is 49/9. Therefore, from 49/4 ÷ 49/9 we have 49/4 ×9/49 after inverting. Moving forward, 49 cancels itself in the numerator and denominator leaving us with the answer 9/4. Mental math.

(7/2 x 7/2) divided by (7/3 x 7/3) = (49/4)divided by (49/9) so Lowest common denominator of 4 and 9 is 36 49x9= 441 and 49x4=196 so now its 441/36 divided by 196/36 = 441/196 = 2 1/4 or 2.25

I did it in following PEMDAS and got it faster than I would have with your "simplified" method. But I get that the method is effective when we have bigger numbers but when you rewrite the equation like you did you need to mention why we don't need to follow PEMDAS for the new equation. Ex: If we have 7/2 X 7/ 2 divided by 7/3 X 7/3 as our final equation the result would not be the same if we apply PEMDAS to it, no? I get what you do but you need to explain why we don't need to follow the letter of PEMDAS when we change the equation. Or else some of your students will come up with this result: 49/4.

That's what I got 1 1/2 were both wrong. Yes as in regular fractions it would of been correct, but I forgot about squaring fractions you don't multiply them first then flip as you do regular fractions. Second set you flip them and eliminate like factors first then multiply across. And keep the fraction improper.

Almost always, 9/4 is acceptable as an answer. You'd only need to rewrite in another format id the question specifically asked for it in that format. 2.25 would probably be the least preferred answer though (but certainly still acceptable). Mathmeticians prefer fractions over decimals because they more easily convey exactness.

If you gave the answer 2.25 it would have shown that you used your calculator and not math. So I would say 2 1/4 and 9/4 are OK. 2.25 is not. In these days everybody can type in an equation on your calculator and press equal

@@suemoore1965 I’m sorry you had that experience. I avoided algebra and calculus because I had a terrible experience in High School.
