Perfect video for exactly what you said. The knowledge to know what is the correct way to do 3 angle valves. Thanks very much for taking time to post this. 👍

Thanks for taking the time to show us how its done. I know now why it labor cost so much. Some would rather buy new heads than spending on machine shop fees. But if your restoring a classic car then you want nothing but the best. Keep it coming and thanks again.

Cool work man! At the last work i use kwik way valve seat grinder with stone disk, it is so easy to adjust, resurfacing and so fast, but is very contaminant))) cool idea! This milling machine is special or universal with special tool?

It depends on seat material most of the time you can go with high speed if it chatters slow it down 1 speed and it will stop

Hey thanks dude. That was quite informative, and now I know what I am talking about. A question about the "angles" on the valve seat: what differentiates between a "performance" grind and a "normal" grind?

thanks, but i was actually curious about what you mean by high speed, the machine goes down to 35, i use that for tapping, counterboring seats, etc... i usually spotface at 70. are you around 150? the machine goes up to like 400 rpm which i could never understand why. great vids, I have a home shop as well, and I also teach automotive at a tech school, UTI is our competiton!! lol.

Seems like a lot of material removed. Now you have to grind the valve stem length down. Valves perform better the higher they sit in the head

These videos are awesome, the problem is that I don't think anyone inthe northeast , does this, I feel they take the charge card, say they did this stuff and in the end , you get nadda... I have read car magazines( probably mis informed ) since I was 13 , always hearing them say, bring to a local machine shop, and they would be glad to help... I live in jersey, among some of the most unsavory car guys known to man,,, and have a had a fear,,, like dentist fear, I honestly figured I'd have to buy a new engine, becaus I couldn't trust anyone to be so detailed.... It's so cool to watch a master at work, and taking a lot of time to spread the knowledge. I have no idea. What the heck I'm doing, I know I love cars, , I know I can do a lot , but this series on engine building I know I'm a moron,,,,,,, Great videos, Real eye opener even for a an avid car guy. .learning a bunch. ,

It's a problem down here in the south with the machine shops too. They charge for work they don't do, hell sometimes you don't even get the same heads back, just had a set of heads that I was paying to be magnafluxed and cleaned, they didn't notice the cracks until after they started painting one head, and on top of that they were painting over dirt and grease. All after I asked for them not to paint them. Another problem to watch for is when you take your nice parts in to be put in like cam bearings or parts for a motor they are building some shops will swap them for the cheap counterpart

what speed are you using to cut the seat? do you have to play around with different speeds to reduce chatter? I have a ph2000, am thinking about buying the goodson fastcut tooling for it...

Do you put the seats in liquid nitrogen before you install them to shrink them? It would help since the seat is a few thousandths larger than the counter bore, right?

I worked in a high performance 2 cycle boat engine shop many years ago running an engine lathe making turbo housings, etc. and we used dry ice to shrink and an oven for expansion for interference fit, one part in the ice to shrink after the other part in the oven is hot and expanded, we used about 004 and it worked fine

hello, I would like to know if there is significant amount of horsepower gain from a 3 angle job and should you get it done on a vehicle you use as a daily driver and race it also. thank you Robert

It helps it's important to understand making more power is not just one thing it's a lot of upgrades match porting, bowl blending multi angle valve job these things all add up to more power I have seen as much as 15 HP gain on a 400 HP engine but like I said there is much more than just one mod that needs to be done

MrRichard57000 I had dodge LA318 failed due falling out seat and it was pressed by machine shop I don't know what was the reason of falling seat but cost me to buy new heads instead if stock one; I thought may be there is a cement to be used during seat pressing so when the head heated up and expand the seat will not fall
@Myvintageiron7512
@Myvintageiron7512 9 жыл бұрын
ABU. HAMDAN If the interference fit is right the seat will not fall out it is recommended to cut a counter bore .006 to .007 smaller than the seat insert being pressed in I always double that to .012 to .013 on cast iron heads and the seats go in real tight I don't want them falling out

Nice video, but actually that seat is far from perfect. Because you are using what's called a forming tool there will be very fine chatter marks your naked eye cannot see. Not to mention delusions in the seat. I always touch up a form cut seat with a stone to remove those otherwise your valve will need to beat them out. You guys with stone cutters don't fret, they're very good if you have unworn pilots and stone holders. Proper technique is needed with them as in any machining process.

Yes, it also shows contact width and placement which matters. You want the 45 mating surface in middle of valve
