Yes Ryan drill 3 part one and yes write that book! I find the pronating the hardest part, so will be doing that one and I know you have showed this before and just love your views as they are great reminders! Your videos have helped my game no end and have made it into our men’s first team at the club. Ryan you are the best tennis teacher on the internet! Practical and clearly explained so we an apply what your saying. Thanks Ryan! By the way the birthday hat does work and have them in my tennis bag. I can do that lasso technique because of what you said, I still have them in my bag just in case someone asks me to show them how to get that motion! Brilliant!

Picturing swinging PAST the ball to its right, as a right hander, has definitely helped me! Especially on my "flat" serve.

Unrelated thank you. Watching your free serve lesson using CoachIQ. You said you don’t bring the toss arm up to vertical bc you toss low. You made my day because I like low placement. I’ve tried the John Craig toss (24” above contact)- not my cup of pu’erh tea-too much idle time. Cheers. Jeff

The higher the toss, the harder it is to have a consistent contact point.👍

All three are helpful. You can practice them at home and get a feel for service motion.

@2MinuteTennis Can you explain how does this pronation at the end of the 3rd drill, after we have hit, helps? Thanks
@2MinuteTennis8 ай бұрын
It’s a swing thought, as mentioned. Players pronate too early which makes them go palm up. So if you “THINK” that you’re pronation is after contact you end up pronating at the right time. A coach’s job isn’t to always be right, but to always be helpful. Thanks!

Good video! How do these 3 drills work with pulling in the tossing arm after the ball is tossed?
@mbr12548 ай бұрын
It looks like 1st and 2nd are before the pull in, during or after the toss, and the 3rd you can add in to add a little something.

thank you very much, is there a difference in grips for flat, spin, and kick serves or is it just the same continental grip. Sorry if you mentioned this in the video I did not watch that far yet if so.
@2MinuteTennis8 ай бұрын
Flat and slice are generally status quo continental. But kick serve can have the heel pad a bit more on the top panel for more spin.

@@2MinuteTennis thank you very much for the reply! Do you have videos on the flat serve? My slice serve is coming along but flat serve needs work.

One of my coaches brought party hats to a training session once, it was good fun but I never really understood the drill. I do now, thanks. However I still struggle to get my racket drop and hence power. About the pronation, if the ball has left the racket before the racket pronates, why pronate and not just let the racket swing through. Thanks for taking time to post the videos

Okay, folks, no more pretend b-day hat. Make one from a cereal box-break the seams, cut out a half circle with a 7” radius, form a cone, punch 2 holes, add some tape and elastic-done. OR! Make a fez with a cardboard oatmeal can! Add elastic. Ryan will be saying knock off the fez! You think you don’t have elastic? I’ll bet your underwear drawer has some vintage pieces that you can staple to your hat! 😂

With regards to 3 - are you hitting the ball at 1-2pm on the ball as it looks like it goes up then left/ straight but mine really hook to the left Thanks
@tavomagno58 ай бұрын
Why spin? Is it that bad trying to hit a Flat serve? thanks
@mbr12548 ай бұрын
Inherently a high risk shot, add some spin to increase the chance to get the ball in.

Drill #1 - Birthday Hat because it needs mastered first.
@gw45834 ай бұрын
Unicorns cant serve lol. thanks for making me laugh
@DeltoidBeast8 ай бұрын
This method of yours - knocking the birthday hat is completely wrong! What you show is not what is happening on good serve. Racket swing path MUST NOT be over head. Doing it like that cant produce proper and deep racket drop since your racket travel too much horizontally. This technique you show will cause injuries of arm, and weak serve. Watch again pro players in slow motion, and you will see that correct swing path of the racket must be behind the player, not over the front of the head. Knocking the birthday hat happens due to very athletic position of pro player during the serve, not the way you show it.

Federer hits the bday hat, Kyrgios hits the bday hat, JJ wolf hits the bday hat, Nadal hits the bday hat, Osaka hits the bday hat, Sam Groth (the fastest server of all time) OBLITERATES the bday hat. In fact, here’s Sam Groth’s serve in slo motion. I want you to tell me if he hits the bday. You just wrote the “racket path MUST NOT be over head”. Tell me if he would hit a bday hat off his head? kzbin.info/www/bejne/e5e7haiiYtqrr6sfeature=shared

Here’s another with Reilly Opelka. Screen record it and look frame by frame. If Reilly wore a bday hat he’d hit it every time with his racket. kzbin.infoGYeXm73-jyM?si=HhKEPrflVYaApK3R

My favorite part of this is that the commenter says in the last sentence "knocking the birthday hat happens..." Yes it does. Sure you want to double down on your third sentence? That the swing path MUST NOT be over the head? Trolls will troll I guess. Why not try to learn something more like the "athletic posture" of the pros with simple progressions first?
