4 on 1 happened to me once. They where across the street name calling etc. For no real reason. I never met them before. Not being a push over I replied. Yeah, you guys are tough when you are many. At which point they all came running over the street, fists swinging. Who knows, they might have done that even if I didnt say anything because they might have seen it as a sign of weakness. Anyway... What I did was that a moved in such a way that they all had to come from the same side of a car parked at the street. That way I wouldnt be flanked. I backed up and continued backing up, avoiding their swings and if they got to close. In an attempt to grab me, I pushed them away with both hands. Then I used my secret weapon! I picket up my phone and called the cops! OMG... This alone usually dosent deter people strait away, but I pointed out loud that I was talking to the police, this is being recorded etc. Started to state where I was, how they looked and when one of them said they were gonna cut me. I replied, paraphrasing, "Oh you have a knife? Thats like 1-3 years in prison isnt it", "The police is now driving here faster"... At which point all the attackers turned tail and fled. Unfortunately, later, the police was unable to find them. I am pretty sure I wouldnt have had managed to beat them all in a movie like street fight so I guess the moral of the story is; Use your brain before brawn!

Paul Andrew "Pro" tip. LoL. Just because you are holding a mobile phone dosent mean you cant use two hands to push someone away or not keep your guard up. And calling the police is only three digits (112). I explained the whole situation in the story so I dont really get what you do not get. A mixture of luck, crowed control, doing the right thing, keeping a cool head, making them hesitate or question your level of skill etc. Shit like this happens very fast. I am exMil, but I am no MMA fighter. I took that into account and made the right call... (pun intended :D)

hey nick, I'm glad you mentioned that if a girlfriend is in the situation, her best move is to get out of there and call the cops. I've seen way to many fights at the club where the girlfriend would try and fight them off and get hurt in the crossfire.

This is why I carry a gun. No matter how badass you are, you are likely to lose this one. And losing on the street is death or serious injury. And if she runs, one of them can chase her while I'm tied up with the other two. So unless your girlfriend is Ronda Rousey, carrying a gun is your best option here - ESPECIALLY if one guy has a knife.

I'm not an expert so I would like to hear your opinion, I am often told that in a fight it's important to never get backed into a corner or you can get swamped and have no swinging space. Also I am told never to retreat or walk back as it shows a sign of weakness. My question is whether that makes sense rather than what you did?

This is why you should concealed carry a gun, and even if you can't you should always carry a knife, I always carry the Emerson karambit with the wave feature, I can pull that thing out and start swinging, cutting throats if necessary. I'm not old enough to legally carry a gun to I have to carry a knife, but as soon as I'm 21 I'm getting my concealed carry license.

That is probably a no win situation. Not to say you don't try, but man, that is scary. I remember hearing Bruce Lee say, decades ago, that he feared no single man, and might beat two at once, but if any three men attacked him, he would likely lose. However you feel about Bruce Lee, I liked that moment of candor.

great video, thank you so much for sharing. I would comment that I believe you may be displaying a lot of faith in argumentation because you do not want to escalate. They are too close to you for comfort. I would be of the opinion that you should not allow them to get so close to you. If they do, they will have a tactical advantage over you. Been apologetic, in a cornered situation as the one presented, will only send the message of weakness. No sense in arguing about fighting or not. One either responds quickly or flees, do not engage in conversation with guys who are not there to argue. IMHO.

Nick is right- 3 on one, you have to make the first move, and you need to strike hard enough to decrease the attackers numbers by at least one man.

This encounter took way too long. These guys made it clear they wanted to get physical from the start. You let them touch you 3 times, back you into a corner, get into position, and reach in their pockets and behind their back. These thugs aren't going to be patient enough to sit around for tea. If their intent is to harm you, they will do it after the first few exchanges of words. Of course we work to de-fuse the situation when possible, but these guys crossed too many of my lines. Walk towards my 2 o'clock to get out of the corner. If side guy tries cutting me off, I blast him. Move him between me and the other attackers. Follow up with strikes to them too if necessary.

Nice video Nick once I was backed into the corner I would have immediately chopped the guy on my right in the throat with a knife hand and then kicked the guy in front of me in the groin then went after the 3rd guy . Ive been in martial arts for years and in my opinion the time to strike is when they step into your safety zone and are within striking distance, no time for small talk , these guys are going to hurt you, plus a lot of guys are all talk once the third guy sees you takeout his buddies he may take off running it happened to me

It's only required that imminent danger was sensed, and this video was a perfect example of that. The instructor here, as the scenario played out, would have been well in his rights to make a preemptive strike and wash his hands of legal liability.

Many DA's are elected positions, which lends to playing to the crowd. The DA in NC allowed he was prosecuting theLaCrosse team. Had he not, his opponent would have skinned him as Not Being Responsive to the sensibilities of the community. Meaning, they may come after you if they can get a win, you convicted.

Sorry but I have seen very few people to weild the power to knock people out with a palm, in this video you do not have the leg power to throw anything ,also if people are going to fight I have seen stuff pop off way sooner .I have no idea why so many martial artists cover the multiple attacker scenario which is very difficult to replicate and since so many martial arts do not even show you or train you to fight one what makes them think 3 is going to happen?

I would say hit the biggest one first with the surprise blow and try to take him out of the fight then you have a better chance against the other two smaller guys.

I always carry a small bag of pepper mixed with powdered glass in my pocket so if I'm approached by a low life with intent to attack me I keep my hand in my pocket and rip open the bag, take a fist full and when he's close enough I throw it in his eyes, that will render him useless to defend himself and then you have him at your leisure. Important to remember that before you do make sure you have the wind on your back or else you will be the victim of a blow back..

I have one question though, do you know if it is legal in the southern states (Alabama, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, Florida) to have a baton or blunt weapon or really any non gun weapon concealedthat you don't have to get a permit for or have to be over 18 to buy(asking this because of self defense and also because I live alone with my mom and lately one suspicious stuff is happening but not enough to be too worried or called the cops, also because ya know I already plan on having some self defense weapon when I'm older so why not just worry about one now. I mean the longer I have it the better I will be able to use it when it masters.

For me, it might be a slash across the eyes with the knife I would have most certainly palmed at the beginning if the "interview". 3 on one, in my estimation, is a threat to my life especially if my family is in jeopardy as well, and will be met with the matching level of force.

Im sorry man, but at the end of the day, all of this is complete bullshit. Youre letting them get in their reach all the time, giving them the opportunity to strike you "out of nowhere" countless times. If things get heated, u either step out of the reach or u start to swing. Somebodys gonna hit first, make sure that youre the one who does. Instead of touching them when you raise your hands, you should rather have backed away while doing that, thus staying out of their reach.
