When I think of Bas, I see him as a pioneer and probably one of the first true martial artist, he came in and kicked butt, they figured him out, exploited his weakness to where he was able to actually morph his game and entered a whole new realm of MMA, the ground game. He was scary to face standing and was a monster in the clinch, and now was a monster on the ground.

Yeah, anyone that says otherwise hasn't a clue what they're talking about. He was as close to the REAL warrior that's in Bloodsport. Frank Dux, from what I understand, wasn't close to it. I would wage $1,000 on the fact that Bas would tear Frank Duxs head off. Also. In Pancrase, or Shoot Fighting is another term for it, they use palms of the hand and open slaps to the head and neck. Bas would knock people out with slaps and palm strikes. I've heard his punching to the head us just a sure KO.

Most people who know something about the history of mixed martial arts know that Bad was beaten several times early in his career by people with jujitsu experience. People who could go for the neck or an arm lock or an ankle or knee continued to beat him for a while until he decided to figure out how to do it himself. Then he became so much deadlier.

Good to read that Bas has all his marbles after an obviously brutal career in MMA. Unfortunately, not coincidentally FAAAAR too high a percentage of retired MMA fighters and boxers do end up with CTE, Dementia, Parkinson's, etc., so it's good to know Bas is in relatively good health.

I've known of him for many years, glad he finally has gotten the respect and honour he deserved, Bas Rutten is in my opinion the most complete and devastating fighter I’ve ever witnessed, Rutten reminds me of a famous quote from the immortal Bruce Lee - "When the opponent expands, I contract when he contracts, I expand, and when there is an opportunity, I do not hit, it hits all by itself" Rutten was/and is a master of his art.
