Thanks for watching! We are a small farm in north Texas, raising Mini Nubian goats, American Blackbelly sheep, TAMUK rabbits, and Muscovy ducks. Our animals are pasture-raised and we pursue natural, regenerative farming practices. Our mini nubian dairy goat herd is focused on creating productive milk goats that maintain good condition on pasture. Join us as we learn about farming, family, and faith!

(Hi my name is Heather and I'm a serial commenter) When we have triplets I go down to the barn 2-3x a day with supplemental bottles of milk and feed the small ones. You can leave them with mom and they get the benefit of being with the herd and getting what milk from mom that they can without falling behind. ♥

Also to note, it's fine to not "follow through" if it's not right in the moment. You are doing great by taking each situation into consideration. Some moms can raise 3 quite well. It sounds like your mama is doing it!! She's a keeper!

I was literally thinking the same thing. Weed em & Reep has a hybrid concept system that seems to make the transition easier.

I came to say the same thing. Supplement feeding works well and the best of both worlds

We have mouse and rat issues and the ONLY way we can keep them away is Terminix. They came and did an exclusion under our house and with that, they come out anytime we have an issue. That, and outdoor cats are amazing. Terminix also puts bait under our house that's safe for secondary ingestion so if my cat or a hawk eats a mouse that died from poison they'll be okay. I love living as naturally as possible but personally draw the line with rodents because they will ruin your home, and your enjoyment of your farm. :(

I had never heard of poison that is safe for secondary ingestion - that has always been our concern with rodent problems. I'll have to look into that! (Because even though we have a barn cat, our "mouse hunter" cat is... a bit lazy 🤣)

Love that you shared some lessons learned, as we can all learn from each other. Hadn't heard of flushing, so that was very interesting nugget of information to keep in mind. Also, perhaps give yourself some grace on your 'firm decision' to pull a kid if mama has triplets and just see how it goes (play it by ear per goat momma/kids)? Kind of like you did this year. Decisions can change! Hehehe. 💚

I'm definitely going to have to give myself some grace on that this year, because these babies just refuse to take the bottle anymore. I guess they are getting plenty from their moms, but 😭 I'm so nervous they won't get enough to eat! You are so right though - decisions can change!

For your rabbit colony, you might try hardware cloth, they can't fit through that and maybe some sort of flashing(?). What I have done in the past for triplets, I just leave them on mama and supplement a bottle to the kids who need or want it.
@balicard00
@balicard00 4 күн бұрын
Yes 1/4 inch hardware cloth is mouse proof but if I am remembering her rabbit setup correctly just replacing the mesh would still leave plenty of gaps for mice to get in
@NewDayFamilyFarm
@NewDayFamilyFarm 2 күн бұрын
Yep! Hardware cloth would be a great fix for sure if they were in a cage, but with 4 huge walls and roof, I would have to put up THOUSANDS of dollars of hardware cloth to cover everything. 😭 I thought of just adding it around the bottom, but mice can climb so well that they would probably just climb over and still get in.

So sorry to hear about your mouse problem. I just hate those nasty critters. As far as the baby goatee's no problems, they are so cute. Hopefully, you don't end up with thirty babies, though. But hopefully they're all healthy. You might just have to help with a little bit of bottle feeding. Maybe just be topping them off to make sure they're getting enough and keep a close eye on them. I wish I lived in a place where I could have goats, but I don't now. I think those babies are so stinking cute. So I just watch lots of youtubers that have baby goats to get my goat fix. But I sure wish I could put my hands on them.

feel free to use the advice or ignore up to you for the mice problem would get a different mesh with smaller squares and double wrap the rabbit pen with another smaller wire to create small gaps the mice aren't able to squeeze through through plenty of yt videos of chicken coop examples if you want to check it out secondly have you thought of hybrid feeding to ensure the smaller one is getting a good meal? I know some goat owners bottle feed in the morning, and allowing them to nurse of mom throughout the day this would require you to milk in the morning, though. weed em and reap a Nigerian dwarf goat farmer (she does have a retired Nubian named Luna but that also share their story on yt has been doing this for her two pairs of triplets this year. I hope my advice helps I really just want you to know we are all human and make mistakes we do things without thinking sometimes just because we are moving quickly everything happens for a reason. I can't wait to learn more about your channel : )
