Kintec: Footwear + Orthotics

Күн бұрын

We all want to wake up in the morning ready to take on the day of work ahead of us. But, for many of us, foot pain gets in the way. You may feel that having sore feet is a normal thing, but it doesn’t have to be. It’s time to start uncovering the risk factors associated with workplace foot pain.
Workplace foot pain can have a profound effect on your well-being outside of the office, too. Our research shows that, for 78% of people, foot pain is a barrier to maintaining an active lifestyle outside of work. Unfortunately, many people aren’t able to make immediate changes to their work procedures that could help alleviate pain, because of circumstances out of their control. For example, some people are required to sit at a desk all day, while others are required to stand.
Overall, workplace foot pain impacts not just your productivity, it also disrupts your livelihood outside of work. Despite the intuitive connection many of us make between weight-bearing and pain in the lower extremities, there isn’t much strong evidence currently to support the theory that how much time you spend on your feet contributes to injury. This is due to a shortage of accurate reporting technique.
At Kintec, our goal is to help you stay active on your feet and realize a healthier lifestyle. That is why we partnered with WorkSafeBC and Simon Fraser University to address the limitations listed above.
About 10% of the global population experiences plantar foot pain ¹. Research shows a dramatic increase in this number for people who stand or walk for extended periods of time ². For example, 50% of retail workers have reported foot pain during work ³.
Researchers have suggested there is a connection between time spent on your feet and the likelihood of experiencing foot pain. However, the inaccuracy of self-reporting from participants in studies up to now has been a hurdle in uncovering the link between time-on-feet and pain, as well as knowing where the thresholds might lie in when most people develop pain (i.e. the difference between 30 minutes or 5 hours of being on your feet).
To get around this, we developed an instrumented insole that can classify the workplace posture of the subjects with an accuracy of 97%. This device has helped paint a clearer picture of how spending time on your feet can increase the risk of injury. Through our study, we have determined there are three key ways to address - and even prevent - workplace foot pain.
Watch our previous video about workplace foot pain: • Sore Feet From Work? 4...
1. Change Your Posture Frequently
Maintaining a consistent weight-bearing posture (i.e. standing or walking for extended periods of time) applies a constant load on tissue and doesn’t distribute this load evenly across your body.
Throughout the day try to switch between sitting, standing, and even walking as much as you can. Varying your posture this way will distribute the load more evenly across your body.
If you stand or sit all day, compression socks may help your circulation. They also prevent swelling, fatigue, and that feeling of ‘tired legs’ after a long day of work.
2. Footwear Matters
Shoes are the foundation that supports your body. But even high-quality shoes will lose their ability to absorb shock over a long period of time. When this happens, your joints start to absorb the extra shock instead.
To get around this, alternate your shoes each day if you can. When you let your shoes rest, their midsole cushion can fully expand. In this end, this will help increase the lifespan of your footwear, saving you time and money shopping for a new pair.
PRO-TIP: Take a look at your shoes and see if you can make out a wear pattern. This will tell you more about uneven spots in your gait, and how they might be affecting the rest of your body.
3. Arch Support Helps Everyone
Regardless of the posture of your foot, arch support will help your feet feel more comfortable. We assess patients with foot pain who have both high and low arches. For approximately 80% of these cases, their conditions improve with custom orthotics or insoles.

My job doesn’t have any breaks and my feet get super swollen and bruised every time I work. I bought good insoles and good work shoes, but I still find myself barely able to move, and on the edge of tears by the end of my shift. The pain, bruising and swelling lasts for at least 18 hours after I get home and sit or lye down too. It’s a pretty okay job but every day I’m tempted to quit because of the nauseating, crippling, pain that doesn’t go away. All this for minimum wage that’s getting taxed 15% anyway.

A month ago I was working a warehouse job working 6 days a week 12 hour shifts because of mandatory overtime and 15 minute break I sat down for 3 minutes while I pack the product into the boxes so I stay productive, then the manager comes walking over to me, “sir you gotta stand up, you’re not allowed to sit at all.” And I just looked at him with these dead eyes and just shook my head and got up. I honestly don’t want to be alive anymore, this is my life for the next 40 years until I get old, I work so much I don’t have time to spend the money or live, and I get paid just enough to pay bills and not enough to even think about quitting. And the bosses act like it’s a privilege to be paid $15 an hour here in Dallas, I can’t afford rent anywhere on that, working 50 hours a week, while my bosses are driving exotic cars and I see celebrities and KZbinrs making $10k-$50k a month and I’m killing myself for a lousy $500 bucks a week. 😞 I know I’m better than this

1- stop comparing income, the sadness you’re feeling is justified because you’re risking your health so dont get confused, im telling you, even if you were famous n rich, you’d say the same if your health was at risk and think that it’s not worth it, forget the pay and stop burning yourself over how much someone else makes, your health is the priority here. 2- even if they give you the bullshit “we did this before you/we endured this, how could you not?” To make you feel less or weaker, that argument makes no sense, because in reality most of these people if not all of em have some sort of injury, and you will too unless you stand up for yourself and ask for these rights that you deserve 100%, the weakness is not physical, it’s mental, those guys weren’t brave enough to ask for things and only earned their positions because of years of work and not because they asked for it, alot of people are a mess and they end up as supervisors/managers, have a stronger will than them and demand your rights.

@@ashy1042 well, technically the pain didnt stop, just reduced. Plus overtime the boot getting worn out and gives my feet more space. Month ago i change a new boots and as expected it started to hurt again. The center of my foot looks bruised so for that month i take 2 medical leaves. Then it started to hurt less. The pain doesnt go away, its just reduced to bareable amount. Sadly my heels and toes doesnt feel the same anymore. They are half numb.

A lot of these educational “self-help” videos just assume that many people do clerical works or work in positions where they sit in chairs. It’s practically useless for those of us who are young and/or poor

What I did was 1. Reduce salt intake. 2. Reduce showers. 3. Use rubber gloves when washing dishes. 4. Brush teeth with bottle water. 5. Stretched and move the affected area and I am well. 🙂

@@musaa7919 my shoes no longer hurt, what I heard helped is freezing a water bottle and then when you get home rolling your foot on it, it’s only the last few weeks in which my feet have stopped hurting, unfortunately you just need to ride the pain out, it will get better xx

If you think about it why do we have to stand most of the time at work 🤔🤨I’ve seen plenty of jobs that when I looked around it’s not that many ways to get hurt or anything like that it’s almost like they want us to suffer 🤷🏽‍♂️😩I’m willing to bet that most workers would fell a lot better about having to work for 8 +hrs if they were just a little comfortable 💯🗣️
