You make so much sense Chris. The post covid crash has helped us all to understand the "Don't panic Captain Mainwaring" attitude. I went into drawdown in Feb last year and felt I'd lost my a**e soon afterwards i.e. - 24% 📉. I'd kept 2 years cash reserves and I'm pleased to say that I'm currently 12% up from my starting point.

Thanks very much! My wife would disagree 😅 So important to have that cash reserve! I thought I was going into Corporal Jones last year I uttered the words don’t panic that much to clients, but fortunately it was a short lived downturn. Glad to hear drawdown is progressing well so far.

Nice one Chris! I feel that #1 is massively relevant now as you explained. Many of the new investors in the market (including myself) have never seen a serious bear market! Whilst the COVID bear market was sudden, it recovered faster than any bear market ever. People will be in for a shock I’m sure when we have a tough one.

Thanks mate! Totally agree. I started out in financial services in 2003, so I’ve seen the good and the bad! A lot of people have only seen gains apart from a couple of little bumps in the road, so it’ll be interesting to see the fall out.

3.00 min Bitcoin comment very prescient! Same with me.... I used to invest in vintage cars - when a receptionist bought a 1987 328 Ferrari as an investment....I got out of mkt in 2017 !!!

The FTSE has been under performing for decades and past performance is all we have when assessing future performance.

To be honest, UK equities have actually been amongst the top 3-4 equity markets in a fair few of the years since emerging from the lean spell we had between 1999 and 2002. In fact, in the decade that followed that, UK beat US equities in 6 of those 10 years A better starting point is valuation. That's why Vanguard currently have a more positive outlook for UK equities over the next 10 years than they do Global ex-UK. Vanguard's VCMM has historically been a pretty reliable forecaster of returns.
