I've seen the trailers and I can't stop laughing from the cheapness of it all. It definitely seems like another psycho thriller big budget but lack of quality blockbuster. Not going to see it, not interested, not nothing

Tencent Chinese version was pretty decent. The budget - or appearing to be cheap - isn't the main issue. It's the lack of respect for the source material which is the main problem.

@@sinolit I agree, that's why I am not interested in the Netflix version. When I said "cheap" I was referring to cheapness in the way they turned the argument of a magnificent piece of art as the book, into some kind of flashy mutant... Definitely the Tencent version is the one I'll stick with

@@ariblue400 agreed. i'll watch it out of curiosity. It's very interesting to compare the two and what they show about their respective producers.

Expecting a much more compact fast paced, high budget take here. My main worry is going through the first book so quickly. But the core story seems to be intact, so not an Apple Foundation situation fortunately. Critics are praising Zine Tseng as Ye Wenjie a lot so the Chinese portions should be interesting.

tbo honest i am really hyped. i think its smart to tell the story in chronological order and introduce the main protagonists early. so we can be with them from start to finish. Like Luo Ji, Zhang Beihai, Cheng Xin and Thomas Wade. All their stories start in the common era. i hope if done right, the oxford five take over the rolls of Luo Ji, Bill Hines, Cheng Xin, Yun Tianming and Zang Beihai. And tbo honest the story could use some more character work. maybe i am just biased b/c i want it so much to be good. (obsessed with the books) that everybody could see the universe flicker, even with their bare eyes is really bad. i hope they explain that in a satisfying way and do not dumb down stuff to much.

the original trilogy was like an unfolding of many layers with new characters emerging as the depth revealed itself. following this method worked with the Tencent series, it remains to be seen if it will work with the Netflix one.

@@sinolit tencent is full of fillers, added stuff that makes no sense and the acting of some characters is REALLY bad. the scene with the unfolding is so corny. i think most ppl who praise this series didnt even saw it. its just cool to praise a foreign series.

closely watched the whole series. Some filler- for sure (could have been around 12-15 episodes). Acting from foreign cast was generally mediocre or worse- except Evans (who was decent). Acting from local cast was good, Wang Miao depicted solidly. Yu He Wei was good as Da Shi. At the same time it kept to the spirit of the book - which is itself rough around the edges. I'm not sure which unfolding scene you mean..

@@sinolit the unfolding of the proton, to make the sophon. the moment da shi entered the 3pb game, i could not take it serious anymore. or the Ball Lightning supposal to take out the 2nd red base. the filler killed it for me. and the acting of young wenije. rest was ok but way too stretched out. its not super bad, but for sure not as good as ppl make it out to be. (i liked Wang Miao and Da Shi a lot too.)
@sinolit

@@franzfrikadelli6074 yes. it was unnecessary to have Da Shi enter the game. They were really going for the "buddy" angle of Wang Miao and Da Shi. Young Ye Wenjie acted like a cold-fish for a reason - she is a cold fish. The representations of the game world were philosophically correct. It portrayed the book content earnestly - if at times crudely. A commenter on my channel hit the nail on the head about the Netflix "re-writes" - "We've called it the 3 body problem so that you know what you are watching is the 3 body problem". There seems to be too much disparity between the book and the Netflix version to even be called "Three Body problem".

Pretty hyped for this, tho I'm trying not to let myself get too taken by hype. I would say I think the addition of the whole "your mind can exist in different worlds" thing is just thrown in as a misdirect for those who aren't familiar with the story.
@sinolit
@sinolit 6 ай бұрын
maybe. at the same time, the first trailer entirely missed any point of the books. The "life searches for life" voiceover was really more suited to another story. I am yet to see evidence that the "producers" have even read the original books.

@@sinolit having read comments from people on Reddit who've already seen season 1, I'm pretty confident it's a misdirect. I've also at the very least heard Alexander Woo talk about reading the original novels, and heard Dan and Dave talk about how some of the changes they made are the same as what Liu suggested to them when discussing how to globalize the novels adaptation.
