Probably not the most exciting video if you are not a boat handler be cause it is so slow. But you may be interested in how and what it takes to go in a channel and have to flip a loaded barge around to land heads and heads on ship.

Don't apologize for the boat handling videos. I'm fascinated with the menuverabilty of such a big tug and barge, my dad worked on tugboats and its something that gets in your blood. Thanks for sharing all your knowledge and skills.

@TimBatSea

Thank you for watching Henrik. Don't tell anyone, but your small sailboat probably is much harder to maneuver because it is so responsive. Great stuff.. it's all about setting yourself up and letting the momentum help and tweaking it as needed and like you said.. just wait a bit and let it do its thing. Some skippers I have seen just work the motors all the time and do not let them get a break, whereas you use them and stop to see where things are headed then use the motors as needed when needed.

TimBatSea - hello Tim, I have been following you stories for a while, as a mariner I do enjoy the tug boat fantastic build , brutal power and intricacy of its design to do the work it does.. also connected with you an the story about your property on the west coast of Puerto Rico, Rincon, Aguada, Aguadilla which surprised me !! .... I cycled around the island and enjoyed every bit of it. Your stories and knowledge are very entertaining, please keep them coming !!! Gracias

Another great video. How you control all that weight and inertia is really interesting. Would love to be there to watch and feel the barge react to your power inputs. To gently come up beside that ship is awesome.

Was this a fuel barge? I would imagine a few hundred thousand gallons of fuel would be pretty heavy. Great video Tim !

Thank you for watching and for being a subscriber! Yes this is a bunker barge with about 30,000 barrels of petroleum in it. That's well over a million gallons. So there tends to be a lot of energy stored up in every turn. CUOTO

Thank you for watching William. I am saving up to buy a few more things for the channel and one of the thing on my wish list is a 360 camera. My thinking (for now) is that I would shoot a regular video like this one, but have a companion 360 video that you would be able to control what you see. Crossing finger, CUOTO

Awesome maneuvering video, those loaded barges just don’t want to stop. Another load of fuel delivered! How about a video “Tim goes to the gas station “. A video where you get the tug filled up. Also how long can you go on one fill? Or another example, how far can you push a loaded barge, form NY to ___ on one one tank.

Thank you for watching Thomas. If you are new to the channel, welcome and please consider subscribing as I try to post new content every Tuesday. So fueling Ops are part of the "no filming" thing as they can have a few issues of liability and proprietary operations involved. But I would like to do a virtual fueling video one day talking our way through what I can't show you. As far a how far we can push, that really is a weather thing more than a few thing. But assuming the weather was perfect and we were towing and not pushing, you can do the math. We hold almost 60,000 gallons of fuel. We burn almost 3000 a day while pulling a loaded barge and making 6 to 7 kts. CUOTO PS Of course there are safe limits like not burning every drop of fuel and the fact that we are ballasted with fuel and not water.

Fascinating stuff and love the commentary. Seeing and hearing how you're anticipating things way in advance of the actual event is great to watch. Do you do a run-through of the job beforehand?

Thank you for watching and subscribing Matt. So the official answer to be used in a court of the future is "of course I do". And unofficially I still do. When I was breaking in, I had watched a show on the Blue Angels. Before every show, every time, they do a complete mental/virtual show sitting around a table first. I I started using this technique and it worked well for me and still does. But as you get more familiar and confident, your need for such an exercise is less than if you were flying an F18 going crazy speeds 36 inches away from your wingman. So yes. Of course I still do a mental run through, just not to the extent that I used to. CUOTO
