The things I listed are not hard anyone can do them were not talking about rebuilding a transmission or doing a head gasket job. On top of my little rant here people should also know how to Jack their own cars up and do it right and safe. Should also know how to remove a tire and torque the lug nuts. I started to know what diner to pull over to in order to get gas, feed the family, and let the car cool off. It wasn't even a step grade. The little 4cyl engine was worthless. Scotty, you are awesome. I, as someone who has been a mechanic for over 40 years, and like you, has worked on many different cars and even in motor racing as a race engine builder, do on RARE occasion disagree with you, but I admire your spirit of wanting to educate the general non-automotive public and help them to navigate through the mess of the automotive world. Even though cars for the most part are a thing of beauty; the industry is itself is a messy tangle of metal and politics. Your energy, humor and enthusiasm for cars is infectious and puts a smile on my face every time I watch your videos. Keep the video coming even though you moved from Texas to Tennesse, and it is hilarious to watch all that 'clutter' of automotive stuff you usually have in the background - a true 'backyard' mechanic who is very knowledgeable and funny at the same time.

Having been a Mercedes Benz automotive technician for over 40 years now, I agree with Scotty. The Jeep's after the 1970's became troublesome, high maintenance and costly to own because of frequent breakdowns due to poor design and engineering. The Nissan Maxima is the Audi of Japanese automobiles. Stylish, plush, nice performance - but for a short time and then very expensive to maintain over the long haul, because of parts costs. With regards to the Mercedes-Benz, it looks like the vehicle Scotty had in the video was the ML (SUV) and they are built (assembled here in Alabama. They have been frequently problematic for various issues, but particularly for oil leaks, which can be expensive to fix. After the late 90's Mercedes Benz had a major philosophical change at the factory and the cars are not the same in terms of durability and being solid machines as in previous years. More complex and less reliable. That is why both my MB's are older than those years. My cars are more reliable, have much lower maintenance and I have less headaches than my customer's cars that I fix. The newer MB's keep me in business.

Well to be honest my wife and I have been in the car market for damn near a year, And I can certainly say that most car brands I really don't trust anymore Ford's probably about the only one on a domestic side I am a huge Jeep fan however even I'm aware that a lot of the newer ones aren't all that great... The biggest problem with any of these car brands particularly in the used car market is of course you have people trying to shuffle 20-year-old cars and they're literally wanting a $10,000 for these things you know $8, 000 mid-range anymore and maybe if you're lucky on a good day you can find one for six and a half to seven and a half thousand depending upon what it is but that's the problem is you have to question though it looks good you know what kind of damage is done internally? So we've made a few attempts to buy cars we went and looked at a bunch but a lot of them are rested out s*** boxes and then of course another reason that I myself would never budge is because the price was too high the car was too old and I would go home and research these cars and find out that they had all kinds of problems I would check with my mechanic and you know he told me to stay away from a lot of so you know to me it's kind of like what the hell is there left to buy there really ain't much on the market worth a s***!

I got a 2002 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4.7L V8 4x4 given to me. It's my current daily driver. It runs, sounds fine. I have noticed some things that are wrong: ▪︎ Wires in doors might be broke because power windows, mirrors and locks don't work. It's a common issue on Jeep Forums that 99-04 WJ's have wires break between the door and body from opening and closing the door. ▪︎ every once in a while the gear seems to make a thud sound when going up to 50mph+ but works most of the time. Not sure what's causing it because it's not often. ▪︎ I smell oil burning when the car starts up then goes away 1-4min later. It's wet on top of the cap but no leaks under. Maybe it's the cap? ▪︎ the suspension seems bad, it rocks back and forth after turning or hitting bumps in road... maybe Ball Joints, Pitman arm/tie rods or something. Getting it fixed soon. It causes it to turn a little left or right from banking or bumps in road. But the car runs and it was free. Might cost me $1000 and it has 220k miles and I change oil every 2000 miles just to be safe 5W30, I'm thinking of switching to fully synthetic oil

Nissans aren’t what they used to be, if they were ever good at all. I’m fortunate that I lost my Maxima in Sandy. It was getting expensive at 110,000 miles. I feel much better about the Accord that I have now. Though it has not been perfect, it has been reasonable. It has had small issues (bad grounds, failed starter). I think I’ll go boring next and get a Toyota.

Car shopping at the end of summer. I always wanted a jeep but I am reconsidering. Going from Toyota that is 25 years old and still runs, I would like my next car to last at least 10 years lol.

I was working at an Independent Shop in Colorado and was dispatched a R.O. for a 2005 or 2006? Jeep Wrangler 2.4L with a Manual Transmission that had a Bad front Crank Seal Leak, long story short, I determined the the Crankshaft had way excessive End Play. I researched "Identifix" for a posible common Failure. Bingo, known problem area, I contacted the Parts Dept. at the Local Dealer. Low and Behold I was able to order a Single Kit which included all the Parts, Gaskets, Seals and Sealants which Included a New Crankshaft, Thrust Bearings (Half Washers), Main and Rod Bearings to complete the job. I like the way Jeeps look, but I would NEVER buy one. They are notoriously bad. I rented a Nissan Versa in 2018 and didn't like how it handled at all. My 2015 Honda Fit is much better. I was actually surprised by the Nissan's awfulness.

Will a idle air temp sensor make a engine run rough is it bad or going bad ?
@u.s.a.1982 жыл бұрын
I would say yes..
@ronniewilliz1532 жыл бұрын
@@u.s.a.198 that's what I said to but I had a mechanic tell me no it wouldn't make it run rough lol it'll only make it richer for more fuel but the three main thing that it does when going bad is crappy fuel milage rough idle misfire an running rough when accelerating. The iat sends signals to the ecu to tell it to richen or lean it out an it also has to do with timing. I was blown back that he said no.

@@u.s.a.198 my mom's van threw a code p1193 idle air temp control circuit condition hot. So I'm wondering if the fuel is evaporating to fast ? Idk I just changed the file pump an filter for her an it still falls on its face of it goes past like 2k rpm an sounds like it starving for air or fuel. So idk diag sucks sometimes lol
@ryans4132 жыл бұрын
Well the idle valve and the air intake sensor are two different things the idle valve is what keeps the engine idle when stoped or in park it allows air pass the throttle flap. The air intake sensor what tells the computer how cold or hot the air is. If the idle valve is bad it can cause I high idle or a low idle like too low and the air temp sensor can do the same thing so you can see these sensors work together. Too make this more stupid lol some MAF sensors the sensor that reads the volume of air some these sensors have the air temp sensors built into them in that case you have to replace the entire MAF sensor if that was the fault. Long explanation here but yes if any these sensors mess up it’ll cause problems for the engine if theses sensor are separate from the MAF sensors just best to replace both. BTW you can test most sensors with a multi meter just put your meter to resistance and put the positive and negative on the sensor just test all pins until you get a reading if you get a reading sensor good if you get OL open lead its a bad sensor

I love my 2004 Nissan Sentra GSX model. It was well maintained by the dealer. The only issue I get is when someone doesn't know how to take good care of my car! We had zero issues with 2 Nissans as long as you know how to take good care of it. Thank you!

My wife's Infiniti which is made by Nissan also a 2004 is a rock solid vehicle and if she put half as much money into it as I do my Chevy S10 it would be Cherry right now. But even in its present condition I wouldn't hesitate to drive it a thousand miles straight if it could hold that much gas. Absolute Beast.
