And surprise surprise when I check the oil and filter on these brand NEW cars, metal! Hyundai and Kia are shooting themselves in the foot by having to change out an engine instead of just giving out a few more 5k oil changes, instead of trying to be cheap and make them 7,000 miles out!

I have a 2019 Toyota Camry. The owner's manual says that the car can be driven 10,000 miles between oil changes, and they recommend oil changes at 10K miles. While the oil is still pretty clean looking at 5,000 miles, I change it at that point to be safe. I won't get to 6K miles before I change the oil. I know Camrys are awesome cars mechanically, and can run almost forever, but I don't trust 10K oil change intervals. Also, the oil life meter comes on around 4,400 to 4,600 miles after an oil change. So that is strange as well if the manual recommends 10K miles.

So many cars and trucks have passed through my possession over the years, and I am still absolutely surprised the old Kia Sorento has been the most reliable and durable. In my experience, every car brand will have serious issues with their car lines from time to time. And none of them will own up to the issues and properly take care of their customers. Cars are always good for a suprise. I live in Germany where most people have a different view on cars as Scotty or Americans have. But Toyota is seen as a reliable brand here as well. But for decades most Germans thought their brands were the best in the world, while american were unreliable gashogs. Well some are this way. I was the first one in our familiy, in fact the whole street, maybe the whole village, who bought an american car in the 90s. It was a 1996 Jeep Cherokee XJ, produced in the US but for europeuan market. And turbocharged Diesels were very popular these days. So it had a 2.5 Litre 115 HP turbo diesel from VM (italian motor company) which suprisingly had the same torque as the usual 4.0 litre six cylinder gas. I bought the Jeep in 1999 and drove it for 21 years. Finally the turbocharger broke down. I sold it, because diesel engines are now very expensive (680 Euro tax per year!) and it was not easy in the last years to get spare parts. I will never forget this go-anywhere american masterpiece. I drove it from Germany to the Trollstigen pass, from north to south Germany, used it for chopped wood, plaster stones, moving... All my friends bought 2 or 3 different cars (mostly German brands) in that time, as the cars broke down or make them unsatisfied. Even our family Mercedes Benz did not survived 19 years. That Jeep never burned oil.

I had the hardest time with my outback with fuel delivery issues, waiting for it to throw a code and point me towards the problem. It ran like crap but never a code. It was very frustrating, I don't understand why I never got a code. Turns out the upstream O2 sensor was bad, so my fuel delivery was all over the place. Being patient and waiting for a code doesn't always work.
@georgekurgansky5986 Жыл бұрын
With 02 you don't normally get a code, you can unplug them and it'll run rich or lean whichever is the default and still get no code. Also 02 doesn't work when engine is cold. You look at the data when it works fine and use that for comparison. But sometimes it will just be really obviously offset or really obviously slow. Easiest way is just to swap it out and check mpg. Sometimes it's the maf sensor messing up how the 02 effects efficiency.

@@georgekurgansky5986 For a long time I had a P0420, I figured the cat was bad because the previously failed headgasket sent coolant and oil out the exhaust. Cleaned fuel pressure regulater, same thing-- one good test, then crap. I took my Cats out and made sure they were clear and flowing- not clogged. I was so frustrated, Knowing it was some kind of fuel delivery issue that would temporarily get better. I replaced the O2 sensor on a whim. I knew it would effect fuel delivery, but didn't realize it could totally choke the fuel supply. With the new sensor it's been running great, and the p0420 is gone also. A side note: The same O2 sensor is used in cadallacs, nissans, volvos, a few more. Very easy to find.

My Kia optima engine stopped working at 45k miles. Kia found loopholes to not honor the warranty and I got completely screwed. Never getting a Kia again.

OMG you are so right about Jeep. I had a 2005 Grand Cherokee and so many things were wrong with it I told the guy I sold it to that I'm sure I'm forgetting to mention some of it because there is just too much wrong with it to remember. His brother apparently liked to rebuild Jeeps so good luck to that guy! Also one morning at about 1am I randomly lost all exterior lights. It happened once and never happened again thankfully.

Agree with 2/3 of these. I love my 98 XJ that I picked up for $4k in this jacked up car market. I've put about 80 bucks into it over the last year and 50 of it was my fault because I broke something in a moment of stupidity. 175k miles on it and runs great.

Hello Scotty. The wife and I had purchased a 2015 KIA Optima LX with a 2.4 GDI Engine , 4cyl Automatic transmission. After about a week and a half , The car started eating Starters. The piece of crap took a Crap. At 135,000. Sent the car to the KIA Dealer and they said After having it at their Dealership for a couple of weeks , Did a Diagnostic test on it and they said the Engine was Done, Blown Engine. First they said it was Covered under warranty For Bearings. Then they said they wouldn't cover it because Nobody had started the process for the Recalls that were on this car. The Car lot where we had got it Did Not tell us that there were Any Recalls. The Car lot , KIA , And even the Financial place where the car was Financed Will Not cover this Junker even with GAP Insurance. I will NEVER again own Another JUNK KIA OR HYUNDAI. I'm Done with them !

Get a lawyer, here in the UK you'd be covered under consumer law. Hyundai would literally have to prove there was nothing wrong with the car when they sold it, regardless of the warranty. After six months it's up to the consumer to show a fault existed, and that lasts six years! I literally wouldn't let that go if I were you. Good luck.

My 2020 Kia Forte GT engine failed at 2000 miles. I was coming out of a junction and my car just stopped. I was nearly T-boned. It took an engine replacement and then two transmission problems afterwards for them to buy back through a Lemon Lawyer. It’s not just the cars, the service in general that you get at the dealerships is very poor. Edit, Im in California.
@laboogie2 жыл бұрын
How do you buy a used car without checking recalls yourself!?
@johnelsonjr.60082 жыл бұрын
@@laboogie Hello Paige. First , I don't feel that it should be My Responsibility to check for Recalls. I have Never had to check for Recalls in the past. I have purchased several cars and pickup trucks in the past without checking for Recalls and have had alot of Really Good, Dependable and Reliable Vehicles. Second , When we purchased this KIA , The Dealership had told us that this car has a Clean Carfax. What is sad about this is , There are Alot of these Cars KIA and Hyundai that are having Problems. These cars are Unreliable and are Not Safe. I had seen a White KIA Optima today sitting along the highway today broke down. Do some research on these cars, Buyer Beware !
@rob59442 жыл бұрын
@Kyle Belair in the UK it wouldn't matter if it'd done 535,000. If it had a major fault when sold and you can demonstrate it then it's down to the dealer for up to six years. Within six months they even have to prove that the car was fault free when sold.

I happen to work near a kia dealership. I noticed about four complete engines stacked on the junk pile. I right away thought warranty failures. Almost have to get them to sign off on at bare minimum providing the replacement oil if they don't plan on fixing it. I actually almost bought a Sedona but someone beat me to it.
