We had a V6 back in 1980. In order to get the mileage the imports had they made the metal so thin that the hood would ripple on the highway like tinfoil. The radio being mounted vertically was also just plain dumb. Did they really think any aftermarket companies would design a stereo for such a piece of junk? The radio was AM only. The Citation was Motor Trend car of the year in 1980. You know who advertised most in Motor Trend Magazines that year? Chevy.

Scotty! Here’s a little inside info on the GM light truck rear end / front end differentials. GM sold American Axel to the company that took the manufacturing to Mexico. Now when it was American Axel, they did a partial pre-assembly of the Ring and Pinion gears and punched marked them so they new exactly which teeth had to match up. They then lapped in the ring and pinion to make them a matched set. After the set was lapped into tight tolerance, the set was dis-assembled, cleaned and final assembled to the punched marks they had been lapped into. Now when the assembly went to Mexico, they still lapped In The ring & pinion gears, but without the punch marks to match them back up. So after they were lapped, dis-assembled and cleaned, when they put them back together for final assembly the units have a mix-matched set, which have an oscillation of various degrees depending how out of match they are put back together. This resulted in so many warranty claims, GM brought back the differential production to Grand Rapids, Michigan where they completely refurbished 1/2 of a GM plant. To your point, all about profits.
@xXBlackestManXx4 жыл бұрын

My grandmothers Cadillac had a recall for the spring that holds the car key in place. If too much weight was on key it could slip out. But instead of replacing the spring when she went to the dealership they just put a cap on her key ring loop so she can’t put it back on a key ring 😂

Ford lost me forever as a customer when they decided it was cheaper to pay the wrongful death and injury settlements on Pintos whose gas tanks exploded on impact than it was to fix the cars. Talk about only caring about profits. The horrendous design of the dual clutch transmissions didn't help. I've read the manual transmissions in Mustangs are also failing. If a car company can't build a reliable manual transmission they have no business making cars. Saying Ford is the best US automaker is like saying out of Ebola, COVID-19 and the flu, the flu is the best disease.

I love Scotty’s channel, love this video, and I know he loves Ford, Toyota, & Honda. But I had a 2008 F150 and never got 100,000 km out of it before the engine was unrepairable. I changed the oil regularly but apparently 2008-2012 5.4L engines were garbage. Even before The engine went, the handling felt super light and scary over hills. Never liked the way it handled. I still have PTSD from all the money I spent repairing that truck. Now I’m driving a Sierra 1500 and (knock on wood) is performing great with way better fuel economy. And it drives better. After researching for literally 2 years, the best advice I heard from a mechanic was; “just buy what you like. They will ALL have their own individual issues”

I have always loved Fords since a young boy. I’ve driven lots of cars and owned Honda and Volvo which were very good quality but something about Fords always draws me in. Often not the quickest but often a combo of good price, looks, handling…here in the UK in mid to late 80’s hot hatches were all the rage. The MK2 Fiesta XR2 was not the quickest but it looked and drove great and priced well. So we’ll that over half of all Fiestas made were the sports XR2 model. Escort XR3 then XR3i were adored by the masses, and the lucky few got to own the Escort RS Turbo and later the Fiesta RS. Sierra had an XR4 and XR4x4 which were pretty cool but of course the daddy was the Cosworth. I always wanted the Sapphire model as it was more subtle, either RWD or 4x4. Then the Escort Cosworth came out arguably one of Fords greatest classics. Their flagship luxury models were lovely too, enter the Granada Scorpio (except the droopy eyed model lol). I’ve recently got a MK3 Focus and I have to say it’s got great looks. I love the dash it’s a lot nicer to look at than a lot of the German models with their all black dashes. The blue speedo/rev/fuel/temp needles look very cool and I see why everyone loves the handling on these cars. And I’ve just listed a few models. We had Capri’s, and of course the Mustang, GT40 etc so many great models over the years.

Pre-Renault Nissans, Mazdas, and Hyundai (preferably 2000's and early 2010's models) are all modern, good choices that don't hurt the wallet, nor do they break down as much. The Ecoboost presented a variety of issues, from waste gauge issues, to inter coolers "over-cooling" and condensing too much causing engine shutoff issues during long highway trips, to the brand new 5.0 miss-firing when on full throttle while going uphill. My friend with the 5.0, has took it back to the Ford dealership in Chattanooga, TN, and for the 3rd time what he hears from the maintenance manager is the good old "when we test drove it the issue didn't present itself"...Again, we're talking BRAND NEW. Scottie, your favorite brand in the world also makes the Tacoma in Mexico lol. Owners of the Mexican built trucks report very few issues too. In fact the factory has won more awards for quality than the texas plant which will soon stop building the small number of Tacos they do build. Don't get me wrong I'm a frontier man myself which by the way is built in Tenessee, but lets be honest vehicles are built with as high or as little quality as they are engineered with, regardless of location. A long time ago i read an article about the Toyota QC at factories and how it differs with GM's. At Toyota's facilities every major component/part is checked against a "master" part at the time of assembly. Any issues with the part are dealt with right there and then before the vehicle is completed. At GM the vehicles go through QC at the end when the vehicle is complete, making production issues dealing with tolerances harder and more costly to fix.

@jameschan17913 жыл бұрын
Scotty points out the main reason you don't buy an American Car: PROFIT. Quality does not equate with PROFIT. And, American Companies do not WANT to make a reliable long lasting product, they WANT their cars to break or wear out so that you come buy another one. So that they can PROFIT. Ford gets out of the CAR market because they won't make enough PROFIT by putting enough QUALITY into their product to make them desirable.

@GR-cf4qh4 жыл бұрын
@ bngr bngr. I don’t know about the latest ones, but I’ve driven ones from 10-20 years ago extensively. Tacoma’s are the better vehicle hands down. If you’re going to buy new, get a Tacoma. Used, I’d get a Ranger. The Rangers aren’t garbage, they’re just not as good as the Tacoma and you’ll have to repair them more frequently to get to 200K and beyond. My 98 Tacoma was virtually all original and going strong at 238K. My 03 Ranger needed multiple repairs by 100K, but no major failures. Tacoma’s have absurdly high resale value however. Even high mileage beaters demand a high price. Rangers have a resale price that reflect what they are actually worth.
