I’ll stick with my 30 year old Ciera. Everything that went wrong with it happened years ago. Wiring harnesses, sensors and pigtail connectors to the sensors, Alternator and radiator, and water pump, AC compressor. Now at 148K, a little old church lady named Dorothy bought it new, in cash, as the elder Greatest Generation folks would do, no loans, no credit cards. She drove it to her church 3-4 days a week, the grocery store once a week, and frequent the elementary school where her granddaughter was attending. 34k miles in 12 years, 🤣😂 Daddy bought it from her and handed it to me when he retired from driving at age 90. At that point it had 67K. Two weeks after Daddy went home to God, it ran rough and conked out, diagnostic showed it was the primary wiring harness off the Ignition Control Module. $25 later it ran like new. Earlier this year, it would stall out after running for 10 min., wouldn’t restart until it cooled off, then repeat same issue. No error codes . $34 2nd crank shaft position sensor, back to running like new. Paints faded but that has nothing to do with the running of the motor. Frequent oil and transmission services keep it happy. Insurance low, parts available.

KIA’s are great-under the model of how they operate their business. KIA is far more interested in leasing you a car for three years and then having you get into whatever the next current year model is. We were KIA people when I was young and dumb. Leased a 2017 Sorento with no issues, owned a 2011 Soul for about 5 years with little issue, leased a 2020 Soul with no apparent issue. But, what can I say-aside from the ‘11 soul, we never put over 30,000 miles on the other two. Then I went and bought a Honda Odyssey with 100,000 on it, and a Toyota Solara with 129,000 on it, and they do their thing like they’re brand new still.

Oh yeah, around 2005, the last time we needed cars, my partner (female) had wrecked her 1995 Nissan Sentra and the insurance totalled it. But she didn't know what car to replace it with so she asked me. I talked her into a Silver 2001 V6 Solara with maybe 80,000 miles on it. A few months later I bought a 2002 Camry V6 with 66,000 miles on it. Both cars $15,000 each, out the door. 20 years later her Solara has over 260,000 miles and my Camry has 204,000. Neither car has needed any major repairs, just the expected timing belt + water pump replaced, alternator or two, a starter, and brake jobs. The first time the Solara needed the timing belt @100,000 miles I just did it myself, same for the Camry. Both cars have the same 1FMZE engine and same transmission, which has its own drain plug and an ATF dipstick, so she had her ATF flushed once, and i've just done a drain and refill every year or two (the transmission takes EXACTLY 3 quarts to refill, which is amazing to me - Toyota seems to think of everything when they build a car!) Both cars still running and driving, and passing smog every time. The A/C on the Camry still works as new.

@@humanchannel9421 it is, but it’s basically Kia’s business model, and people like *new* stuff. So, they cough up the $3K down payment and get their brand new whatever at $300/mo and just keep doing that forever. I’ll never lease a vehicle again. I’m hoping I never finance one again (or if I do it’s an immediate pay it off scenario). I’m much happier to buy something used for cash now-but it did take me a while to learn and get here.

In my country Russia most cars (50%) used in taxis are hyundai 1.6 AT accent AT (solaris), or KIA 1.6 AT RIO(same engine), and they basically NEVER break down, no matter what... I've seen one 2016 Solaris recently with 767k km(~400+k miles), and it never breaks down!!!!!!! The secret is all behind removing catalyst, this thing is cheaply made and very unreliable, so when it clogged in, it destroys fast and engine blows quick by its particles, so be aware of that. Even car mechanics say: "If you're gonna buy solaris or rio, then you'll forget about car service" lol

I had 2 engine replacements at 48k with a sorento. I take very good care of my cars and have always owned Honda/toyota cars which made it to 300k+ with regular maintenance. I decided to purchase the sorento due to their price but that was a huge mistake. They do not honor the warranty unless you are in the process of hiring a lawyer and getting corporate involved. Never again will I buy a Kia/Hyundai. I have seen way too many fail. I advised a couple of friends to stay away and they did not listen. Now they are dealing with high oil consumption problems and the dealership stated it’s normal. 1 quart of oil every 500miles is not normal🤣. Stay away from that company at all cost. A side note, not all Toyotas and Hondas nowadays are the best either. Their quality has gone downhill with these newer turbo engines. Mazda makes good cars as well imo. Just do your homework before making your purchase. Maintenance also goes a long way, just not for Kia/Hyundia cars.

German cars are more reliable, than most American cars if you take care of them. They had issues in early 2000 due to significant reduction in emissions requirement in EU, but since then they became a lot more reliable. I had diesel Passat with a manual transmission, zero issues even at 300k miles. I have Golf R with 160k - zero issues, runs like new. Mercedes mechanically is very well made. BMWs are good now too. Of course if you take care of them. Oil changes every 5k miles, qualified service, original parts. They are very complex technically, so they require proficient maintenance.

Loved that thing, of course I was about 40 yrs younger then so who cared about the ride? lol But seriously, it went great in the snow in 4WD and we got lots of snow in Northern Ohio. Took excellent care of it, always looked sharp and a few of my friends ended up buying Samurais. Kinda wish I'd kept it but I had three other cars and no room for a 4th in the garage.
